Celebrity matches you'd like to see at Wrestlemania

Since it's inception, celebrities have always been a major part of WrestleMania and have provided some of the greatest WrestleMania moments. Some have played smaller supporting roles, while others have actually stepped into the ring to compete. Lawrence Taylor and Mr. T even main evented WrestleManias in the past.

All that being said, which celebrities would you like to see at WrestleMania? Would they compete? How would you book them? It doesn't have to be for this year's WrestleMania specifically, but in general. Obviously there are logistical limitations when it comes to these sort of things in real life, but this is a hypothetical thread, so no celeb is off limits.

I think Ronda Rousey would be a great addition. She's the best female mixed martial artist in the world, so it obviously makes perfect sense for her to compete. I think it would be cool if she aligned with Paul Heyman, becoming the first "Paul Heyman girl" and took on AJ Lee for the Divas Title. That would actually be a women's wrestling match that fans would be into.

I'd also personally love to see Kanye West in a WWE ring. Obviously this is a ridiculous suggestion, but whatever. His persona would make him the ultimate heel, and it would be fucking awesome. It would probably make the most sense for him to be in somebody's corner, but I'd love to see him actually compete. If K-Fed can wrestle, Kanye can wrestle. No idea who I'd book as his opponent. Maybe a tag-team match with a top heel workhorse/ring general as his partner to carry most of the action.

I would like to see Dwayne Johnson in a match at WrestleMania.

Well, you said any celebrity. In all seriousness though I'd like to maybe see Vin Diesel with The Rock as his partner or in his corner. I have no idea who I want to see him face though. Maybe the standard John Cena or perhaps the Miz if he were to cut a promo saying he's better than any actor, including Vin Diesel.

The only celebrity match I'd like to see at WrestleMania is Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather. I'm thinking that if anyone can finally make this happen, it's Vince McMahon and Triple H. I think we've waited long enough. Give the people what they want...for only $9.99!!

Arnold Schwarzenegger (would be the celebrity for me) Vs Ryback

If other sports athletes counts then I'd go with Jon Jones, Randy Couture, and hell I would love to see Tito Ortiz in the WWE (yea he was in TNA for a bit, but whatever he's entertaining to me)

Ronda Rousey or Miesha Tate vs Paige or Nikki/Brie Bella/AJ Lee

Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko vs Big Show

I`d like to see Sly Stallone accompany John Cena to the ring against Rusev, in a Rocky movie type storyline.

:lmao:

Having said that, Batista is very close to Manny. Both from the Philippines and he has walked him to the ring before.

I don't see Rhonda Rousey as a 'celebrity'. She isn't mainstream, she is just a UFC fighter.

The Rock with Vin Diesel in his corner is a nice idea.

I know this'll probably sound negative but, in all honesty, I've pretty much zero interest in seeing celebrity matches at WrestleMania. I've seen The Rock wrestle Cena twice and I'm personally over the novelty of him coming back to wrestle every so often. I'm not hating on the guy for leaving WWE or that he's putting his movie career first, I'm just sorta over the guy in general as there's not really anything left for him.

Aside from The Rock, celebrity matches have generally been little more than publicity stunts to generate mainstream media coverage for WrestleMania. That's all well and good but I don't think it's necessary and those matches have eaten up a lot of airtime while the matches themselves are usually panned. While The Rock is a celebrity outside of wrestling, he was a wrestler first and that's how wrestling fans are generally gonna see him. Whether he was in Hollywood or he just stayed retired from entertainment altogether in the near decade he was gone, his appearances at WrestleMania 28 & 29 would have still helped generate over a million buys. His appearance helped get media attention but I doubt it drew any significant numbers from people who don't normally watch wrestling just for the novelty of seeing him in a match.

The Rock aside, given his wrestling past, I personally like that the primary focus of WrestleMania for a good long while, especially the past few years, has been on the wrestlers themselves rather than on some celebrity match publicity stunt.

Apart from a VERY few exceptions, I don't enjoy seeing celebrities being involved in matches, never have. I don't mind them accompanying wrestlers to the ring as managers/valets, or even appearing in skits but actually wrestling? Unless they can perform like a Karl Malone, or are MAJOR stars like Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson then I am not interested at all.

Guys like Hugh Jackman would be ok, as he is genuinely passionate about the business but I hate seeing spots on a WrestleMania card being given to "stars" like Snooki or Maria Menous (or however you spell her name). It's just not entertaining for me at all.

Although Kanye West or Justin Bieber getting split open with a chair shot would be something I'd pay to see!

I'm not interested in seeing celebrity matches either. There isn't enough room on the card to fit all the wrestler's on the roster in properly, so why take up space on someone who's there for one day.

Take this year for example. We pretty much know what the card looks like and Bryan, Rollins, Orton and Sheamus aren't on it yet. Yet there are already 7-8 matches. Leave the celebrities in the audience where they should be, although I hear that John Stewart from the Daily Show might have something to do with Rollins this year. God I hope not.

No celebrity matches at WM? Are you people crazy? Lets just look at WM>. The Andre Battle Royal has already shot up the card with the announcement of major celebrity Miz being the first to enter. Mainstream star power sells and that is exactly what this match has now.

I think it's somewhat ironic to see so many people bashing the idea of celebrity matches at WrestleMania when the entire premise of the event was originally built on celebrity involvement. There literally would not be a WrestleMania without celebrity involvement and that's what sets the event apart from others, and some of the most memorable WrestleMania moments involved celebrities. Mr. T and Cyndi Lauper helped to not just launch WrestleMania, but took the WWF to new heights and the success of the WWF and the overall popularity of wrestling as a genre owe a lot to celebrities. Mike Tyson was a major factor in the WWF turning the ship around in the late 90s, and he is the perfect example of why celebrity involvement is important. Yes, they take a "spot" from a regular wrestler, but the amount of mainstream attention that the right person can bring in can magnify the importance of the product and is highly beneficial. Involving Mike Tyson with DX and Steve Austin really got them a lot of attention.

Believe it or not, wrestling's a work, it's a form of entertainment and I sometimes think people take things too seriously. If a celebrity can add media attention to WrestleMania I think it's great, and when the right celebrity steps into the ring you consistently get excellent results. Even if you are very serious about wrestling and want it to be treated as a "sport", having a legitimate athlete from a real sport step into the ring shouldn't really be an issue. Mike Tyson, Floyd Maywhether and LT were all freak athletes, it made sense.

Let's look at the recent Jon Stewart/Seth Rollins stuff. Should Jon Stewart wrestle Seth Rollins? Obviously not. But has Jon Stewart helped get Seth Rollins mainstream media coverage, yes he has. Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania is going to be a great match, but if Stewart was in Orton's corner for example, or was involved as a guest referee/announcer it would make it that much more memorable. In the end, that helps Rollins become a star, which is the entire point. Imagine if Stewart was in Orton's corner and they got Stephen Colbert in Seth's corner. That would be hilarious, would get all kinds of press and would benefit both guys by giving them a bigger spotlight for their match.

I too, am not to fond on Celebrity matches, mainly because there's not enough room for the roster on the card. However, this is Wrestlemania, it needs as much media attention as it can get. Let's not forget WM 23, 1.3m buys. Sure there were Batista vs Taker and HBK vs Cena, but would it be so successful if it wasn't for Donald Trump? I don't think so.

Since I'm from Europe & Europe loves football (soccer) I'd love to see Messi vs Ronaldo. HAHA how epic would that be? But that's nearly impossible.

So, talking under realistic measures: UFC fighter...... CM PUNK vs Vince McMahon. Punk's not a wrestler now, he's a celebrity! Book it!

Also does anyone remember Shaq vs Big Show storyline from a few years back? How come there never was a match?

EDIT: Also a segment were Justin Bieber gets stunned, rockbottomed, speared, tombstoned, pedigreed, FUed, F5ed and buried alive.

The Rock is always good for business. He generates buzz and entertains first and foremost.

The Rock vs Brock Lesnar is the biggest match they could do right now. Nothing else really comes close so I think there is still something left for him. I'd say in a year or so, Roman Reigns is another path he could go down .

The Rock is a different case. I wouldn't class him as a "celebrity" involvement in the same way I would another actor or musician appearing on the show. The Rock is still a wrestler, and always will be to me. He was born into the business, grew up around it and genuinely loves professional wrestling. I truly believe that if he could, he'd wrestle more although with the huge money he is on in Hollywood it's not possible for him to take the risk of injury.

I'm pretty sure we will see The Great One in the ring again, and I'd be all for it.

But guys like Kevin Federline, Jay Leno etc can fuck right off, they have no place in a wrestling ring.

Celebrities are very hit and miss at WrestleMania. I mean, it can be as good as Floyd Mayweather versus The Big Show (a very decent story), or it could be as bad as Micky Rourke (Jesus!). The point I am trying to make is that WrestleMania should be more about wrestling than it should be about attracting mainstream attention. That said, when it is done correctly it can be really good.

In terms of this year, there is nothing that immediately springs to mind. I'm really hoping that the Rollins / Stewart thing doesn't go ahead. The WWE is giving it some attention so it looks like it might just mean something around WrestleMania. I just don't know how best to handle something like that when there is absolutely no chance of it being worth watching.

Still, if I had to pick something, I would go for some sort of heavyweight boxer to go head to head with the Big Show. Obviously that has been done before but options are very limited at this point and Show is malleable enough to make it work.

None of the above. I'm perfectly fine with celebrity involvement at Wrestlemania, it helps add to the special feel of the event if big names are involved somehow. However, you have to know where to draw the line. The celebrities should not be actually having matches. Let them be in somebody's corner for a big match or have them come out for part of a promo. Wrestlemania matches are the biggest matches of the year. It's not fair to the wrestlers that miss out on having a match at the biggest show of the year just so (insert random famous person here) can have a forgettable match against (insert random wrestler here) who ends up losing to the celebrity because they always win. Yeah, no. Not interested in that. I'm all for celebrity involvement as long as they don't have an actual in-ring competitor spot on the card.

The Jon Stewart appearance on RAW last night perfect illustrates my point. When my roommate was passing through and so Stewart on RAW, they stopped and watched to see what would happen. It was entertaining and fun, is going to garner attention, and unquestionably helped make Seth Rollins feel like a legit star. The Rollins/Stewart angle was really the main angle on RAW last night, and it showcased Rollins as the top heel in the company. It also had the added bonus of helping to build the impending Rollins/Orton match.

I don't think anyone's arguing that Jon Stewart should have competed, or that celebrities who don;t like or care about wrestling are the best people to make appearances, but Stewart is clearly a fan and he added a lot to an otherwise forgettable RAW. Well done.

If they want to do something special with celebs then they can think of tons of non-match related things that would accomplish the same goal of drawing interest without wasting people's time in the ring. And by people I don't mean just the wrestlers, I mean our time as well since we have to watch someone that barely have any idea on what they're doing in there while everyone else has to play with kid gloves.

Really the best way to use Celebs is to just let them do what they do best.
Like if there's a live band let them sing their hit single
If there's a comedian let them make us laugh
etc etc etc
They're famous for doing that stuff for a living and that's the best way they know how to entertain us, so they should stick to that. That has to be better than watching them try to do something that literally takes years of training and looking terrible doing it. By all means let Celebs be part of WM if they can be of good use, but not in the ring since that's the worse place you can put them.
