Carson Palmer: What the Fuck?

Kinda Sorta Old School

Carson Palmer is a guy I look at and just say what the hell. This is a guy that should be a perennial Pro-Bowler and have his team in the playoffs each year, but that's just not the case. Most people say that after his knee injury he hasn't been the same player. This isn't the case though. In the 2005 playoffs Palmer tore his ACL and MCL after a low hit by Kimo von Oelhoffen, this is what most attribute Palmer's shortcomings to, but he went to the Pro Bowl in 2006. So how can this be the reason why Palmer hasn't lived up to his potential? He also had his 2008 season cut short because of a partially torn ligament and tendon in his throwing elbow and decided to sit and not get surgery for it, but this isn't the reason for him not living up to the hype either since he had an average season in 2009 and a decent start to the 2010 season. One of the most telling stats for Palmer is the amount of sacks he's taken, 148 in his career so far. Could that really just be it? His team is shit? If not what is it? Why is Carson Palmer not in the upper echelon of NFL quarterbacks? In 2005 I thought he was the 3rd best quarterback behind Manning and Brady, now I'd rank a few rookie and 2nd year quarterbacks above him. What's wrong with Carson Palmer?

What happened is that, he realized he was from USC, and they dont push out any great QB's. Not only that, I am a Steelers fan, have been my whole life, and i will tell you that the Bengals O-Line wasn't and hasn't been as good ever since Anthony Munoz left. Not only that that hit by Kimo, wasn't a bad hit, it was a clean hit, and if anything he got thrown into his knees. He got 2 diva WR's in The T.Ocho experiment and we know that, that'll fail. He will never be anything more than a gd QB, just solid. Average about 3200 yds and about 20-22 TD's with about 10-14 INT's. He'll never be better than that again.

For his career he really hasn't taken that many sacks and the teams around him, while not always great, haven't been complete shit. I see two possible reasons for his struggles recently.

1. His elbow injury from 2008 was worse then he is letting on. He was given the option of Tommy John surgery or resting it. He chose the latter option and said it was at 100% in the March before the 2009 season but he just hasn't looked the same the last couple of years.

2. He needs a change of scenery. Sometimes you just get in a rut some places and need to switch it up, eg. LT in San Diego. Palmer needs to get out of Cincy and try to start fresh somewhere else. A place like Tennessee, assuming VY is gone, could be a good landing spot.

The injuries are piling on. No NFL player wants to admit how injured they really are, and I have a feeling that might be the issue with Palmer. Elbow and knee problems are major, they're career killers. Palmer might've rushed the elbow for all I know, but I think that was the final nail in the preverbial coffin.

Another thing is his batshit insane WR core. Chad motherfucking Ochocino is his number one. A guy that changed his last name from Johnson to Ochocinco can not be good for a QB. Chad's like T.O. to me, he eats away at the team, and on top of that Carson has to deal with his crazy ass now too. Carson might just be tired of Cinci, like Big Sexy said, a change of scenery couldn't hurt.

Tennessee would be a great fit for Palmer, or maybe Miami or even Denver. A change of scenery might just be exactly what he needs, it might kill everything Cincy has worked for over the past ten or so years, but it might be just what he needs.

Imagining Carson Palmer with Tennesse's roster just brings makes me think Superbowl to be honest. That's never a bad thing.

Palmer had two great years over 05-06, and had a decent year last year, but he's never really been a great quarterback. He's been prone to mistakes over his career, and he frequently gets injured. Palmer is holding back the Bengals offense by being so mistake-prone, and the defense is banged up BAD. But I think the best thing for Palmer right now would be to either leave Cincy or start watching more film. There's got to be a reason that he's not nearly as good as he was, and I think an injury that happened two years ago can't be blamed completely.

I'm not a fan of Carson Palmer. In fact I find him to be one of the most overrated QB in football, maybe the most overrated. The guy gets talent around him and he just can't seem to put it all together. He is too inconsistent for my liking. With that said I think Palmer could still be a good QB. I think a change of scenery is necessary. Cinci isn't known for spending money to get FA talent nor will the owner spend big bucks to get a good HC in. Leaving Cinci and going to a team that will spend the money to get players around him or spend money to get a top notch HC to run the team is where Palmer needs to go if he wants to reach the level many thinks he is capable of. I just can't see him doing it in Cinci and there are few places in the league that I think he could achieve it.
