Ok...so...say Peter Jackson took something from The Lord of the Rings books and altered them or elaborated on them in a way that wasn't exactly as the book detailed. What is that called??

That's what I thought...but it really doesn't make sense. So I was trying to think of other words.


For example, Caravaggio took creative liberties when he painted The Sacrifice of Isaac and didn't mirror the scriptures of the Hebrew Bible 100%.
