Can You Smell What the Rock is Cookin'?

Getting Noticed By Management
So....now that we know The Rock is in Philly for the Rumble what do you think his purpose will be? Just a surprise guest to "host" or commentate a little? Set up for Cena/Rock III The Rubber match? Rock to enter the Rumble and win it?! Rock vs. Brock at Mania? Something else?

My guess is that's it the return of the corporate Rock.
Would be an unreal heel turn for modern fans who never saw the bad Rock
Also...could set up some main events for a few PPVs including Mania. Rock vs. Sting? Rock/HHH vs. Sting/Cena??

The only thing that I can think of is Reigns is winning this Rumble and the Rock will be there to legitimize him. Sort of to head off part of the backlash that will start up as soon as Reigns eliminates the last man.

It's not going to help though, The Rock will get a huge pop that's for sure, but he can't be there every time Reigns steps into the ring. It's a well known fact that The Rock will be promoting his movie Fast and Furious 7 the week of Wrestlemania, so I'm not sure he will even be there to do anything. So I can't see him actively participating tonight or even winning the shot at Mania.

But I've been wrong so many times in the past, you never know. He could enter the Rumble, win the thing, and then go on to headline Wrestlemania, win the title and be champ for 5 years. Hell bring Foley back too, and we'll have Brock, The Rock and the Sock triple threat title match at Mania. Stranger things have happened.

Doesnt work like that nowadays.

Rock couldnt be heel if he tried...it would only make the fans cheer louder.

I have a feeling its Roman Reigns' time...and somehow the Rock will put him over bigtime 2nite.

Rock will be a surprise entrant and enter when Rusev is in the ring by himself

I'd actually be okay with Rock winning the Rumble, on the condition that Seth Rollins cashes in on him at Wrestlemania and then Rock puts Rollins over in the rematch at Extreme Rules.

I could see him being there to somehow put Reigns over, or even to challenge Rusev again.

And then there's my sleeper pick of a confrontation with Bray Wyatt. That's a match I'd love to see and I think it would elevate Wyatt as a legitimate Main Event heel. We keep hearing that WWE wanted Wyatt vs. Taker at WM31, but if Taker can't go? Wyatt vs. Rock has a lot of potential, especially on the mic.

Either he is entering Rumble and winning it or he's beginning a feud with Rusev for WrestleMania.

Honestly I can care less what Rock does as long as he is back for RR & WM. Problem is Vince has big numbers to meet this WM season and say what you will but nobody on the current roster can churn these numbers at an acceptable range aside from someone like Rock coming back to headline.

I'm sure Vince wishes his next main stream guy was on the roster now but they're further away from a current roster guy crossing over to the mainstream as they've been in the past 5 years.

I'm a fan of 30 plus years who is quite frankly embarrassed how far wrestling in general has sunk in terms of viewership among ALL promotions, a Network that can’t even close in on 1 million subscribers when they boast of a huge fan base & how wrestling / wrestling fans are perceived by the general public as a riff-raff.

Until the next superstar is born Vince is going to have to empty his pockets to pay guys like Rock who have mainstream status. Do I wish they could do it without part timers? Absolutely! But Vince is doing what he can to avoid a repeat of last year's poor Network numbers and overall undesirable financial results.

I think Rock vs Brock at WM would be HUGE. The GIGANTIC upside is you have the 2014's most money making actor headlining the big one vs The Beast Incarnate (who he never beat, after losing the title in 2002). The HUGE downside is that the headline is two part timers, which kind of makes WWE concede that they don't have another mainstream name after Cena.

Fucking called it. Knew that's why he was coming back and it didn't work. Couldn't get that Philly crowd to do anything but shit all over the Rumble. Christ I'm glad I'm not going to Mania this year.

I had your first post all queued up to give you credit on nailing it, but I see you beat me to it. I hope you didn't hurt your shoulder patting your self on the back so vigorously.:p

I get that Rock was there to help Roman, but that was very disappointing. He didn't set up a match with Brock(either title or non-title), and Reigns is fighting him anyway, so that match is out. But even worse, it's now evident that he won't fight Rusev. I thought for sure they were going to set that up, Rock was out there and Rusev hadn't been eliminated yet, it was the perfect chance to advance their feud(which has already been perfectly set up) towards WrestleMania...but now it's apparent we're getting Cena vs Rusev, and it would seem Rock won't even have a match at WM. Which sucks.

I'm all about letting things play out and seeing what happens, I always lean towards giving them the benefit of the doubt because, contrary to popular belief, they almost always get it right...but they have a lot of work to do to get this WrestleMania right. That doesn't mean they can't, obviously it's ludicrous to judge a card this far out, but they're off to a rocky start.
