Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese managed to be a force in the world of cinema years ago. They had many hit films together such as Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Casino, and Mean Streets are just some of the popular films they did together.

Now a days, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Martin Scorsese have become a team. Together, they've done films such as Gangs Of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, and Shutter Island. These films might not be immortalized like De Niro and Scorsese's films, but I'm wondering, can the duo of DiCaprio/Scorsese ever gain the same status as De Niro/Scorsese?

I think DiCaprio still has a long way to go. I'm a huge fan of his, but I think it'll be a while before he can reach the level that Scorsese and De Niro did. Sure him and Leo have a good amount of films together, but out of all of the movies they've done, The Departed was really the only one that gained a good amount of recognition, and I would say Gangs Of New York is a close second. I just think DiCaprio needs more films, and more time before we can put him on the level of what De Niro and Scorsese.

What are your thoughts?

Well sorry Mitch. I had a nice long response going and in the middle of it my damn power cut out. So I'm gonna keep it quick this time.

Raging Bull is rated one of the greatest sports movies of all time. Goodfellas is one of the best mob movies of all time. So my short answer is no.

They may be able to reach the level, or perhaps surpass the level of the De Niro Scorsesse duo finnacially, but as far as movie quality is concerned, Dicaprio can't touch De Niro. Don't get me wrong, Dicaprio is a fantastic actor, who has been in his share of great moveies, but like vstrugs said De Niro has been is some absolute classics. Goodfellas and Raging Bull are perfect examples of why Dicaprio will never reach DeNiro's level. My answer is no.

Now Leo gets a lot of crap and I don't know if it's just cause men think he's a chic kinda actor or cause of Titanic...I don't know

But I saw Shutter Island and I know a lot of people weren't crazy about it..but I think him keeping with roles like that or like Catch Me If You Can may get him somewhere

So why do people have this thing against him...Whenever I see Leo usually it's fallowed by a joke

Big as De Niro? No, that is hard to achieve by any actor....and one that has much against him as Leo does....I don't think he will and that's not putting him down.
I just never ever see him coming close

For sure, it is very possible. DeCaprio is a great actor and Scorsese is a great filmmaker. It is very possible that they reach the same level as Scorsese/De Niro. Now, do I think they will? Not really. Decaprio has a long and very promising future ahead of him but if intends on reaching that Scorsese/De Niro level of films then it really just depends on what kind of films Scorsese makes. Decaprio has been brilliant in all of his Scorses films the issue will lie on if Scorsese can make anymore high quality films. Speaking honestly, I loved Shutter Island, Decaprio was awesome in it, the problem is that it was incredibly forgettable as a film.

Now, if Decaprio does want to be Scorsese's new De Niro then I would want to see De Niro pass the torch to Decaprio on screen. Why hasn't Scorsese made some sort of gangster-esque film that starred both De Niro and Decaprio. If this were to happen then the reality of Decaprio being the new De Niro could come true, not to mention I would just love to see them in a movie together.

Leo's the best actor in the business, and hasn't made a bad movie since he broke into the big time, and four of his best movies were with Scorsese, the best being The Departed. Can he surpass De Niro? Definitely. Far more versatile. In his 4 movies, he's played 4 very different characters, and if he's cast as Frank Sinatra, that's 5. De Niro is pretty similar in every role he plays, and his Scorsese movies are no different.

I'd rather see DiCaprio continue on with his own personal success, since he's been on fire for over a decade. If he' works with Scorsese so be it. The question is pretty easily answered though, the combo definitely CAN become better.
