Life's A Bitch, And Then You Mosh
Better known as cKy, the band with Bam's little brother...I want to know your opinions...Were they just riding the coattails of Jesse's big brother, or were they lucky to get any popularity at all?

I saw them live at my first ever concert, and they were really good. This was before I even knew the connection. I looked them up, and got some stuff from them, and was a pretty big fan. They were a decent band, certainly nothing outstanding...But, even without the connection to Bam, they could have gotten moderate success.

Quick correction NSL, Jess is the older bro. Now, onto CKY themselves.

I had heard their stuff when watching Jackass a few times. I think usually in some of Bam's scenes. I never put two and two together when I looked them up until I saw Jess was in the background of either the movie or on one of the episodes. My brother went to see them a few years ago, and they were all really cool guys, which is a plus when band members aren't literally jackasses.

I don't think they would have been huge. They have a pretty good sound to me, but nothing that really makes them stand out above other bands. I would agree with your assessment that they could have been a pretty moderate success without Bam.

Obviously with the Bam connection it probably made them more popular than without, which doesn't hurt. But without Bam's use of their music in the CKY videos, or if people were just clueless to it all, they would probably think it is okay, not great, but okay.

I stand corrected...

The Bam connection is definitely huge for them, but I think without it, they could have still had a decent career. They're still pretty big in this area, and their shows sell out if they're within 100 miles of Philly/West Chester. To be big in this area is a good thing, and it could have led to anything.

The show I saw them at was opening for Godsmack and Deftones, and I know they did similar shows in the area. It would have taken longer, but they would have gotten to the same status without Bam.

I've always had a soft spot for CKY. Growing up me and my buddies absolutely LOVED the CKY tapes, which were the precursor to the Jackass series, only about a thousand times more entertaining. I'll always remember a scene from I believe CKY 2 where the great song "96 Quite Bitter Beings" is playing over random footage of them being thrown into bushes in shopping carts (intelligent entertainment at it's best!) and that song hooked me in. I absolutely love that song to death.

To be honest I haven't really heard any of their stuff after their first album, but their first album was enjoyable, had some solid tracks on it. The group gets a big thumbs up from me though for this video right here:

Any man who does that is A-Okay in my book.

I loved that scene. And yes, me and my friends used to toss each other into bushes, even before we saw the cKy tapes.

That's probably their most famous song, and rightfully so. It's heavy, the vocals are good, and it's one of their more serious songs. They had some that were hilarious, but probably held them back from proper success. The tapes made in their name are far better than the Jackass series ever could be, and I'd say the soundtrack is one of the reasons.

I have that DVD. It's hilarious. Moving on: I've always liked CKY, they had a good sound. They weren't stand out amazing. They were pretty good though. They sell out wherever they go. They're insanely popular overseas, it's crazy.

NSL, I am officially in love with you for this thread. I am a huge CKY fan and have been for many years. Oh and Jesse Margera is not Bam's little brother, he is his older brother.

The band has such a unique sound, something I have truly never heard duplicated by anyone. I have yet to find a song by CKY that I have not liked. Unfortunately, I live in Indiana and I have no hope of seeing them live anytime soon. They are a fantastic band that has been around since the like 1993 just under another name. I have all of their cd's and each one is worth a listen. Chad Ginsburg is one of the best guitarists going today, in my opinion and Jess Margera is a pretty good drummer. I just wish they still had their old bassist, he was much better then their current one.
