Cam Newton

Getting Noticed By Management
When he was making his Heisman speech, he said "There's a lot of things that my parents do that go unnoticed."

Pretty interesting choice of words there, Cam. Thank god he won by the way, if anyone else had won it would've been an absolute travesty. I hope the Broncos can snatch this guy up in the draft!

How is he not the clear cut best player in college football? Explain that one to me, I'd like to hear that.

Newton has 1,409 rusing yards and 20 td's, next to Lucks 438 yards, and 3 td's, and Moore's negative 21 yards and 1 td.

Newton has 2589 yards passing (in an offense that runs on pretty much every fucking play) and 28 td's, compared to Lucks 3051, and 28 td's (correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's a pass first offense and he still has the same amount of passing td's), and Kellen Moores 3,506 and 33.

Newton also averages 10.5 yards per passing attempt while Luke averages 8.7 and Moore 10.2. Newton could've easily smoked both of them in passing yards and passing td's if he were in a different offense, and still managed to rival their passing numbers. He scored more overall touchdowns, and is leading the number one team to the Nat'l title game.

Care to explain how Moore and Luck are just as good as Newton?

Moore - 71.0%
Luck- 70.2%
Newton- 67.1%

I'm not that impressed that he ran for 20 TD's in a conference that is mainly about running the ball. If he did it in the Big 12 or Pac 10, then it's different. I was more impressed by Denard Robinson as a runner than Newton.

Terelle Pryor said he could dominate the nomination if he was in a different offense and Pryor can barely complete 50% of his passes against great teams.

The main thing NFL teams look at when analyzing a quarterback as accuracy as QB rating is way overrated. Vince Young struggled with that for a while and it will be the same for Newton.

Cam will be drafted just like Tebow. Somebody will trade a boatload of draft picks and get him in the first round when he should be drafted in the second or third round at best.

The problem, LJL is I think you're evaluating Cam Newton based upon NFL potential. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean anything when discussing the college football season.

Personally, I think Newton has known all along about pay-for play (which, let's face it, is hardly a unique concept among major conference schools), and he and his family broke the rules. However, it doesn't change the fact Newton has been the best player in all of college football this season. Maybe he isn't the best pure quarterback, but the Heisman is about the best player overall. And Cam Newton is more than qualified on every possible stat used to determine a quality player, including wins and the opportunity to play for a championship.

Moore and James will be frontrunners for the Heisman next year.

Justin Blackmon had at least 5 receptions, 100 yards, and 1 TD every game for Oklahoma State. If he can replicate that next year, then I believe he can win it. Mostly depends on how good Oregon and Boise State are though.

I typed a response and then the site crashed, so sorry for the delay.

That margin doesn't impress me at all, and I don't know why you think it would. Newton has 17 more touchdowns than Luck, and 13 more than Moore, there's not question that he creates more offense than both of them.

Wouldn't that make it more impressive though? The SEC has all the premier lineman and defenses, and they do all they can to lock down the run, but Newton still ran all over them.

Ok, Newton completed nearly 70% of his passess against even better teams. Pryor is full of shit anyways.

Since when does the Heisman trophy go to the best NFL prospect? Once again, Newton is clearly the best player in CFB. Also, I don't think he'll be like Tim Tebow or Vince Young, I think he's an accurate enough QB to eventually be a good (maybe great) QB at the next level.

Cam Newton has a lot more pro potential then Kellen Moore does. Andrew Luck and MAYBE Ryan Mallet are the only guys with more pro potential.

If Michael Vick and Vince Young can succeed in the NFL then I'm sure Newton can show up the party.

He also deserved the Heisman just based on the fact that this entire season was about him with two teams a top of the BCS that aren't huge names just surviving two other non-BCS conference teams, we had a pretty sub-par year. Newton was the face of entire season. His stats also back him up and that win over Alabama was god damn statement. I'd say he earned this and I didn't watch the Heisman show after I tried sitting through the last Award Show on Thursday. You could tell who was going to win every Award before it was given away, so I'll just turn it to ESPN2 and watch the ticker for the results since they were blasted in my face every 10 seconds.

I will congratulate Cam Newton, though. He's going to make a fantastic celebrity for the next 15 years.
