British remake of Everybody Loves Raymond in the works

.

We shy worth hair
"Everybody Loves Raymond" is getting a remake in the form of "The Smiths" across the pond on BBC.

"The Smiths" will be set in Cheshire, England and it follows the "Everybody Loves Raymond" story by having a Lee Mack play a sportswriter who lives across the street from his overbearing parents and brother. The pilot was written by Mack. Catherine Tate will play his wife.

American viewers will recognize Tate from her turn on "The Office" and as Donna Noble on "Doctor Who."

"The Smiths" will film in front of a studio audience on May 28.

This isn't the first time "Everybody Loves Raymond" has gotten an overseas remake. Series creator Phil Rosenthal made "Exporting Raymond," a documentary about his experiences making "Voroniny," the Russian version of "Everybody Loves Raymond."

First off it's rather odd that the British remake an American show. I can't see this show lasting at all; I like Lee Mack and i think there's a few other fans on this site too & Catherine Tate has a good history with comedy but this show will most likely fall flat. The original had the fantastic dynamic of Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle.

Then again i could definitely be wrong and would love to be. Still it is bizzare to see a remake when the show has been off the air for nearly 10 years.

Everybody Loves Raymond is a show I hated until I fully understood the relationships between each character and the subtleties that accompany them, and now I find it quite enjoyable.

No. I will not allow it. American or British - stop remaking shit which is already great. Fucks me right off.

Loved the original. The chemistry of the cast will make or break this type of sitcom that thrive on having disputes and then settling it among the main characters.

What in the blue hell?

What next? A UK remake of the Fresh Prince with Tinie Tempah in the lead role?

I'll probably watch the pilot. About 3 years after the shows already been cancelled.

I'm expecting it to be awful, yes. However, Mack's brilliant, especially in Not Going Out (which I was strangely singing the praises of last night).

Catherine Tate was brilliant in her show, but I've not seen her around much lately and towards the end of everything she was doing, it started to die down.

It could be great, but I'm not expecting much from it.
