Breaking Jerry Lawler suffers legit heart attack on Raw

It's impossible to blame the match, or to know if the match was the cause... Lawler, while he was "overweight" to some, was clearly a fit man for his age to be able to work a match at all.

His risk factors would be considered low in that he is a stated teetotaler. As someone with a severe heart condition since birth, I envy someone like Jerry who has gone 62 years, 40 of which doing what he loves and not had any problems. Sometimes it's not about doing damage to yourself, you have a limit and if you pass it, it breaks down.

I think part of the reason I have not been impressed with the trolls today is cos of the suddenness of it, for anyone it's a wake up call... for some of us it's a downright terrifying prospect.

Honestly, I thought King's heart attack wasn't real at first. I'm always in full suspension of disbelief mode, while watching pro wrestling. "Maybe they're trying to start a new storyline?" This was the first thought that went through my head, but the situation quickly became serious. The stunned silence of the crowd was uncomfortably eerie, and for a minute, you could clearly see the wrestlers break character. Like everyone else, they were concerned. And any doubts of a work were thrown out the window, when Michael Cole confirmed the serious nature Lawler's incident.

Lawler's collapse was just "apart of the show." I kept trying to convince myself of this, but the shocked and concerned look on Michael Cole's face was dead serious. I couldn't focus on the rest of the show, and seeing a visibly shaken Michael Cole changed everything.

Jerry Lawler is one of the most beloved and respected figures in WWE. Hopefully, Lawler will make a speedy recovery, and I wish him the best.

Also, round of applause to Michael Cole, who was very professional following the accident. Personally, Ive always liked Michael Cole and there are tons of people who love to hate him, but fighting to stay calm was what gave him the respect of people with a sane mind.

#PrayForLawler

I not a fan of Michael Cole, But I too thinks he deserves some kudos for holding the fort (as it were) and also the PTP, DB & Kane for carrying on as best they could because the ref clearly noticed what whas happening to Jerry.

MC's "get well soon" comments also went down very well, fair-play to him.

The King feel bad for but I blame the boys in the back and the writers for this. The fact they have to keep using him every week shows why the company will be slowing down over the years. What happens when Orton Cena and Punk Bryan retire or become part timers. They better hope they got guys in FCW that can make a impact like the OVW back from 2000-2002

I am amazed at all the people who are saying that his age had nothing do with the heart attack.

This reminds me of Chris Cash on VOW saying that wrestling fans are for the most part not intelligent at all (thats saying it nicely) ,now i know exactly what he meant.

For people to be so blind as to not see something that happened right in front of their face as clear as day and cannot put such simple things like Old age+wrestling=unhealthy means that the person is lacking in basic common sense and to think that someone needs to be a medical expert in order to make this conclusion is a joke.

Some times things are not that complicated and are really that simple in real life.

I do think Jerry Lawler should retire from active competition because of stuff like this. I enjoy watching Lawler in the ring and his ladder match against the Miz proves that Lawler can still have a good match. But, it's not worth it when his health is in jeopardy. A heart attack is serious and very scary. Jerry Lawler is 62, so his body can't take the amount of punishment it once used to. You can also tell by his moves that all he uses now are punches, flying fist drop and the occasional drop kick, rather than a mix of punches, back suplex, drop kick, clothesline, flying fist drop, piledriver and elbow drops. Mitsuhara Misawa died in the ring at age 46, which is very unfortunate. I'd much rather not see another wrestling legend die in the ring, especially one that can also contribute outside of it.

From Michael Cole's Twitter -
#wweuniverse you will never believe this! I just got off the phone with #jerrylawler and he is alert and in great spirits!

Age is not the issue, the issue is it can happen to anyone anytime, Fabrice Muamba proved that already this year. King will retire, he will have no choice but I am sure he will be back on commentary from the tweet above!

I don't think had he wrestled or not made a big deal. Remember Ric Flair had a heart attack TV during an interview in WCW. So it could have easily happened anywhere like his ex wife said in the interview. There are guys older than King still getting in the ring ala Jimmy Snuka and Terry Funk.

I don't mind King wrestling as he's a popular WWE fixture. It's good to see he can put the headset down and go in the ring for a few minutes to help put over a heel.

I'd like to see JBL or Jim Ross commentate in his recovery period but more so the forefront.

Folks, I read some HORRIBLE statements made over on youtube on the video comments about King. A lot of people are being trolls. Saying some pretty awful things. I can't believe people could be so heartless. On a good note, I am excited and relieved to read the news on his well being on recovering quickly. My guess, if not too soon, which people may or may not agree with me but I'm thinking it will be close to WM before he comes back.

Flair didn't have a 'heart attack' on Nitro. That was all an angle.

Lawler would have had his heart attack if he wrestled or not. His artery was pretty blocked and it was only a matter of time.

But just because others have wrestled when they're older, doesn't mean that Lawler should anymore. After what he just went through, it's likely that the doctors will not allow him to get into a ring again.

Sadly, I think that part of his career is over now... and as for coming back to commentary and the weekly travel... it'll be a long while before I can see him being cleared to do that as well.

I just noticed on the main WZ page that there is a Tout featuring Lawler where he is actually up, alert, and talking again. This is great news! Unlike alot of other trolls online, my gripes against Lawler were professional and not personal. I don't think 2012 Lawler on commentary is nearly as good as mid to late 90s Lawler. I don't feel that Lawler gets into the commentary as much as he used to and think he could be alot better than he currently is. Maybe some of that is working with Cole or WWE dummying Lawler's comebacks down to let Cole be the dominant voice. Perhaps some of it is the PG thing limiting what Lawler can & cannot say or maybe it's even lack of passion on Lawler's part. Who knows?

I was worried that The King wouldn't recover from this and I'm glad I was wrong. I respect Lawler and everything he has meant to the pro wrestling business. As an in-ring performer, he was always one of my favorites and his attitude era commentary was always witty and funny. Even though reports claim that Lawler could return to the ring, I don't think that he should. He's too old and with his recent health scare, I'm sure he doesn't want any repeats. It would be far worse to die in the ring or outside doing commentary afterwards, so I believe King should retire from active ring roles. I just hope that WWE doesn't try to spin this into yet another storyline playing off of real life tragic situations.

He seems to be doing amazingly well considering how bad he was doing just a few days ago. Just looking at this picture taken in the hospital though, I'm worried that this won't be his last heart attack

That definitely does not look like the diet of someone who just had a massive heart attack. I'm afraid that he's got a bunch of mark doctors and nurses up there in Montreal.

Haha at least he is eating a salad! Ive always been a fan of lawlers and monday was a horrible night very concerned they were gonna announce him dead but thats one tough son of a bitch how many people can say they died and came back to eat a fucking steak lol
