Books forum - Interest?

I've been thinking, is there any interest for a forum devoted to books? I ddon't mean just books, but printed works of any kind, magazines, newspapers, e-books, comic books, and more. I don't mean a forum to post stories (Though we could have a poetry thread and a fanfic recommendation thread).

What got me thinking about it is that we have a forum for just about every other form of entertainment, but not words.

Is there interest? Would people use it?

Discuss.

We've discussed it many times. We tend to start something in the Cigar Lounge which is hot for awhile but then it just dies off after a few days.

I'd LOVE to see something like this, I just don't know how useful it would be. I'm not sure how many avid readers we have around here. I suppose there's only one way to find out, though.

To any admins that may be considering it though, I'll do my absolute best to drive a lot of discussion in it if you decide to make a books forum. I'm certainly not asking to be a mod or anything but I think I have enough to say on the topic to get some conversation going for a while at least.

What KB said

Yeah but you can't just make a single "Books" thread and expect that to work. I'll want to talk about Chuck Palahniuk, X will want to talk about Jack Kerouac, Doc will want to talk about Stephanie Meyer or some other dumb shit (I kid, Doc) and it'll just turn into a big clusterfuck with a dozen conversations taking place at once. Obviously that's not going to get off the ground.

A whole forum where we can have all those discussions in separate threads though? I think it'd fly.

We ain't the readin' type :p

I'd like to say I'd contribute...But it wouldn't be any more than I have i the current Books thread in the CL...

If you guys want to try somethign in the Cigar Lounge that's fine. However, I wouldn't expect it to go farther than that. However if it does go strong for a good while, and by that I'm talking months, then we'd discuss giving it its own forum.

Make individual threads then. Nothing wrong with that.

So you're saying, then, that we can just use the Lounge as a books forum and post any book-related threads we want in there? Yeah, ok. That'd work. I thought you were talking about that clusterfuck of a thread in there where everyone was trying to talk about something different.

Not at all. If you want to talk about say Stephen King in one thread, Mary Higgins Clark in another and Chuck Paulchuk in another, that would be fine. They're distinctly different topics so there's nothing wrong with that.

Oh shut up. Go back to watching High School Musical.

:lmao:

But it'll be weird seeing a thread about "A Series of Unfortunate Events" next to one discussing health care.

So what if it looks weird? We go from talking about balls to preachers to death in the bar room everyday.

In a single thread, no less.

Make all your book threads in The Lounge. I wanted a literature subforum when I started posting, before I was ever a mod. If we can get enough book threads going, it'll ge a subforum after a while.

The Lounge is for all enlightened discussion, and I would think literature falls under that category.

Like I said, if the interest is there in awhile, we'll look into a subforum. We've been trying to clear out some of the use of subforums lately as there were just far too many of them.

We can't just go adding subforums like that. There needs to be discussion to warrant a subforum. The CLDL and WZDL got subforums because there are guaranteed to be hundreds of posts. If we go make hundreds of literature posts, we will get a subforum.

I'm taking that as a challenge, FTS. I'll get that started tomorrow. It's going to be awesome.

If you make hundreds of literature posts tomorrow, I might take a look in your direction and give you some rub. Nice sig, I think I've seen it before.....:lmao:

Brothersofdysfunction suck!!!

Wow! Really, mister? Golly gee, I'm soo excited!

And thanks for the sig compliment. I was inspired by someone who used to post wrestling a lot, but got burned out. Now he stays in this one forum all day....used to be called Chit Chat or something like that.....

Brothersofdysfunction suck!!!

They did. Now they're the Triad of Terrible, and they're just plain awful.

It's amazing how many times this subject comes up. A books forum would be awful, and anyone who doesn't think so is foolish.
