Betting on Mania? Corrupt?

Straightfromthehart

Occasional Pre-Show
Now I'm not sure about the USA or the rest of the world but here in England most bookies or betting shops accept bets on wrestlemania, and last night you could get odds of 10/1 on Brock lesnar and 2/1 on john cena, bray wyatt was 2/7 and undertaker 1/33.

What does this say about a scripted product?

And the fact bookmakers take bets on these types of markets.

One phone call to a friend in the uk. Boom bet is on....$$$$

I'm not sure, just think it's dodgy that bets are accepted on anything pre-determined.

Bets are taken in the US too, with similar odds. Happens every year.

I'm not sure what you're saying, though, to be honest. Corruption, as in people who know the outcomes betting? I'm sure that happens, but obviously casinos count on enough people betting the other way to compensate for that. I'm not sure how familiar you are with odds, but the idea behind odds is to get as close as possible to having the same amount of money on both sides. Making a little bit of money on every single bet on the board adds up over time. They don't really care where or who the money comes from. If somebody who knows the outcome bets a ton of money, that simply shifts the odds and encourages more people to bet on the other side. Also, casinos don't have to accept all bets...if somebody or something seems fishy, they are certainly within their rights to say no.

As for bets on things that are pre-determined, it happens. Check out the prop bets for the Super Bowl next year. Many of them involve the anthem singer or the halftime show or commercials, things that certain people would definitely know ahead of time. Believe me, casinos aren't going to do something that will cost them money.

I don't see what your point is,
Maybe there should be an SEC for betting? Come on,
A soccer match is scripted every 3 days in Italy.
When you bet you have to think there's a risk premium that you're paying, if not you're dumb.

And by the way, 1 hour before the match, the news was leaked that Undertaker would lose and the odds completely flipped in favors of Lesnar. And there was supposedly only 4 people backstage aware of the finish.

So if you want to start a commission that regulates betting, good luck!!!!
If not I strongly suggest you either accept to pay a premium for the risk that it could be rigged, if not stop betting.

2-3 years ago I had money on Pacquiao's opponent (Can't remember his name but the guy clearly had beaten him, it was such a bad call) at 12X the bet, at the end of the fight Pacquiao was paying 3,5X times the bet, they had him win..
This year:
I had 100$ on Hendricks over St-Pierre by decision, at 20X the bet.
When the match was finish, before they announce the result St-Pierre was paying 4X the bet, that's how much people thaught he lost...
When they announced that St-Pierre had won I was so pissed off, I closed my account and said never again,

In conclusion, no matter the sport, scripted or not, if you don't expect to get ur anus popped once in a while : don't bet...
