Best WWE Wrestling Years from 2000-2006

A.J.

SmackDown! is MY Show
The last couple of months i been watching many most of my WWE VHS and DVD's from 2000-2006 and it got me thinking what has been the best year in wrestling wise for WWE in the new millennium. In the new millennium we have gone from attitude era to the new era of wrestling and things have changed quite a bit. So here what i say about year:

2000
Probably one of the better years as we saw Triple H evolve into a major player and the emergence of Kurt Angle and just overall the last bit of the attitude era as you can tell towards then of the year we were moving to a new direction of wrestling

2001
The year of Austin as he finally had a long title run which something he never had before. Plus the invasion which never worked out as WWE never could get any real big players from WCW and the ones they did get they ended burying them like Booker. Plus it was the year of injuries from Benoit to Triple H which left a whole on the roster but allowed for Jericho to finally move up in the roster and win the gold finally

2002
The year of Hogan coming back and winning the gold and the debut of Brock Lesnar. and of course HBK coming back. I think this year will be best know for those things and the Triple H and HBK feud one of the better ones that year

2003
The best thing about 2003 was Wrestlemania 19 as this was the year of Goldberg and to seemed like wrestling in WWE was trying to decide on what way they wanted to go. Lesnar was Smackdown and nothing real interesting that year except Randy Orton and John Cena emerging as future players.

2004
The year Benoit got his shot at being the man except to being overshadowed by Triple H and HBk feud . The end of Goldberg and Lesnar in WWE. Randy Orton becoming a main-eventer and John Cena grooming to being the man and Batista as well.

2005
The year that Batista and John Cena rule the wrestling world of WWE. Enough there. The loss of Y2J and Eric Bischoff and emergence of Edge as main-eventer and everying now jobbing to Cena. Plus the sad death of Eddie Guerrero.

2006
The year Edge and RVD finally win WWE gold but both are short lived thanks to the Cena revolution in wrestling. Foley showing up and having battles with Edge and Flair. ECW comming back to nothing it was. Ended the year with Cena, Batista and Lashley as the main face of the WWE and oh yeah DX reforming with Triple h and HBK

In all i say the year 2000 was the best year in the new millennium and the worst is 2003 i mean Goldberg and all the PPV's really stunk that year except Wrestlemania and 2005 is closing behind that.

Any of you have different views?

I'm going with 2002. That year was just stacked as far as its cards were concerned.

The year starts with Flair and McMahon fighting for control of the WWE.
Triple H Returns to a huge pop at MSG.
NWO Returns.
Rock vs. Hogan at WM 18.
Hogan wins the Title
Taker wins the Title.
Kurt Angle gets shaved Bald.
Brock Lesnar wins the KOTR.
Austin Leaves.
HBK Returns.
HBK/HHH Feud, best in years.
Titles are split and the Brand Extension fully begins.
Undertaker gets destroyed by Lesnar in the Cell.
Debut of Elimination Chamber.
One helluva 3 stages of Hell to end the year.

2000 followed by 2001. The attitude era was the shit. Nothin better. People were still really psyched to watch it. The WWF. Still great. Before they got all the WCW and ECW guys which is hard to write for since they didn't originate in the company. For some reason that makes it way harder to write good stuff for.

2001...this is the year that they purchased WCW and pretty much absorbed ECW...things at that time seemed surreal, like anything could fucking happen, and we couldve had dream matches that looked fairly impossible during the Monday Night Wars... all of a sudden guys like Paul Heyman, RVD, Booker T, Rhino, Lance Storm, DDP, and on and on were there, it all seemed so unpredictable...Austin turned heel, and the "WHAT?" chants were born, Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho were moving closer to thier deserved main event status, we still had The Rock, etc., but anyways, we all know how it turned out, but damn if it wasnt an exciting time to be a fan in 2001...

Well for me it will always be the year 2000. I don't think I was ever so much into wrestling as I was that year, I ordered every PPV, me and my friends just devoured every match the WWF put on. Not to mention like said before, we got to see two of the greatest of all time become major players in the sport (Triple H, Kurt Angle). It was just a great freakin' year, I mean let's recap.

Royal Rumble - Amazing street fight with Triple H & Cactus Jack, first ever tables match, the Rock wins his only Rumble.
No Way Out - Kurt Angle captures double gold, Cactus Jack has his last official match in one of if not the best hell in a cell match.
Wrestlemania - The only time a heel wins the main event, amazing triple threat dream match with Y2J,Benoit and Angle, Triple Ladder match, etc.

Man you get the point I don't even need to go on. The feud in the year 2000 between the Rock and Triple H is one of the best ever, by far.

2001 comes pretty close too though, because although it seemed lame at the time the Invasion angle was incredibly entertaining and produced some great dream matches.

I really loved 97, with the gang wars between the factions, and the bret hart heel angle, with steve austin running around going crazy all the time haha...I kno wlooking back now that the faction wars were actually really stupid, but i was a kid at the time so i bought all of it and loved it.....its sorta tought for me to weigh in, becuase up until 2005, i didnt have the money to buy ppvs, so i didnt get to see all the moments as they happened, was just able to catch monday night raw.....

myy baddd i read the thread wrong haha i thought it was just best year period...best year in the new millenium...I liked 2002, jus cuz u knew eventually brock was gonna turn face..I loved seeing hogan back full time..and shawn coming back as weel was great, along with the amazing Triple H shawn feud...

Great arguements--in all honesty, 2003 may have been the best year talent wise considering all the big name superstars that WWE had former WCW stars and Triple H dominating the Heavyweight Title. But this definitely wasn't the best year of the new milennium because Goldberg made RAW suck and Brock Lesnar made SmackDown suck, honestly. Goldberg crushing everybody and Brock making Kurt Angle look bad, man these guys were big stars but they really were not good for the WWE. Fitting farewell match at WM XX between the two of them with the crowd booing them and chanting 'boring' the whole time.

But at the end of the day there ain't nothin like the Attitude era and 2002 was really the last act of that era, the greatest time to be a pro wrestling fan. I think that soon as they converted to WWE, the Attitude era was dead.

The best thing to come from the years since the Attitude era (2003-2007) is the awesome DVD compilations we've seen-- Ultimate Ric Flair, Bret "Hitman" Hart, Tombstone: The History of Undertaker, The History of the WWE Championship.

I totally agree with this we saw Triple H become The Game he put on hellaciously awesome matches like Street Fight at Royal Rumble and the Hell In The Cell vs. Cactus Jack and he won that match without any outside help like typical heels get. Who can forget Cactus falling through the cage. He proved he was that damn good and WrestleMania 16 was no different being the only heel to win at wrestlemania. Plus Rock vs. HHH feud was great to see

im going to tend to disagree with you a little bit. i mean the last times the wwe were good was from 2001-2004. incredible matches with storylines to go with it. after wrestlemania 20 the only thing that help up wwe to its feet was the wrestlemanias following that. 2005 could of gone strong but then again it couldnt. wwe just need to look back and go with the basics. giving the ic belt to a unknown like santino morrella? if your a old school fan, you would be thinking what ive been thinking and thats "what the hell is going on!"

I'd personally have to say that my favorite year was 2004, but I have a reason. Although I agree completely that the years before that were great, I didn't watch Wrestling at the time. The very first WWE show I ever saw was the first Christmas in Iraq, and I've been hooked since. But why 2004? Simply because the WWE has been going downhill in terms of creating memorys. I mean, what does anyone remember from 04? Benoits title run, Ortons title run, and the (un)tragic loss of Goldberg and Lesner. What does anyone remember from 05? Cena and Batista won the gold. Thats about it. So although I'm sure 01 or 02 were better years, I'm sticking with my first year, 2004.

2000 is the best cause of the great hhh matches followed by 2001 with the alliance storyline then i would say 2002 cause of the return of hbk,the nwo,the elimanation chamber the other years are rubbish

good things from 2003-2006

.the return of ecw with ons

.edge becomes the champ

.money in the bank

.rvd becomes champ

.the wwe title changes hands on raw (last time that happened was 5 years ago)

thats all i can think off for 2003-2006

For me without a doubt 2002. For load's of reasons. They inroduced new stars that actually got over. Batista, Cena & Orton took a while but there over now. They introduced Brock Lesnar who was a bit green when he initially made his debut, but he was a quick learner. Smackdown was by far the superior brand. They had all the WRESTLERS and the show (other than Stephanie McMahons involvment) was usually really good.Guys like Hogan & Taker actually put people over. It was the end of The Rock's full time run in the company (I'n not counting the two months in 2003). Scott Steiners debut. How can somebody make such a great debut ''Hand me that fuckin' mic'' and go on to have some of the worst match's ever? The introduction of the Elimination Chamber. It was impressive at first, it means fuck all 5 years later. And Summer Slam 2002. In my opinion WWE's last great PPV.
