Best Wrestlemania and wrestlemania match of all time.

I'd just like to see the people's opinions on what they think is the best wrestlemania and best wrestlemania match of all time. IMO the best Wrestlemania of all time would have to be WRESTLEMANIA 17. That one was just filled with emotion. You had Rock/Austin part II, Taker/HHH, hardyz/E+C/dudleyz, and much more. It was in a perfect place for a wrestlemania (Houston Astrodome). And IMO the best part about WM17 was they had Limp Bizkit's My Way as the theme. (I dont really like Limp Bizkit, i just like that song and how they used it for the rock/austin promo)

As for my favorite wrestlemania MATCH of all time would have to be Bret vs. HBK ironman match at WM12. Need i say more about that match. If you havent seen it go to youtube, there's a 7 part video in HQ.

So what's your opinion? :wwf:

I would have to agree with WM17 being the best. I just watched it a couple weeks ago cause I hadn't in a while and it was great. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that Austin actually acted heel for much of the match, I think it would have been better to have him act like his normal self and then go full heel at the end. I also really liked WM15. It didn't have as many good matched but I just liked the whole feel of it.

For me its hard to pick just one match. The Ironman match was great but I thought it got boring for a few minutes a couple times, ending was great though. Some of my favorites are Austin/Rock at WM17, Taker/HBK at WM25, and a great pure match was Kurt Angle/HBK at WM21.

I am going to say wrestlemania 17 was the best Wrestlemania. Close seconds for me were 19 and 21 because they had some pretty entertaining matches that sometimes get overlooked, such as the Booker T/Triple H match or the Orton/Undertaker match. However, 21 was also full of unnecessary moments such as the sumo match with the big show.

As far as best match, I narrowed it down to a toss up between Randy Savage/Steamboat at Wrestlemania 3 and Michaels/ Angle at Wrestlemania 21. Why? Simple, they both stole the show and showed that you did not have to be in the main event to be the best match on the card.

There is a small part of me that wants to say 15 simply because it was my first and the buildup to the first Austin/Rock WWF Championship match was a big reason that 11 years later I'm still a fan. Still, the rest of that card was pretty weak, a forgotten Hell in the Cell match and an Intercontinental title match with four guys who were never going to be stars (Although back then Val Venis seemed like he might break out one day)

So for best overall Wrestlemania I gotta go with 17, TLC II, a pretty brutal Hardcore match, Beniot/Angle, Taker and Triple H in a war and of course the WWF Title match with Austin and Rock and Stone Cold's heel turn. That was the last night of the true Attitude era for me as the following "Invasion" storyline never really fell under that era to me.

Now as for best Wrestlemania match I've ever seen...Bret Hart and Stone Cold's match at WM13 was so good because of what it did not only for the WWF, but what it did for the two wrestlers, swapping their spots almost within the company, the start of who Austin would become.

The Austin/Rock match at WM 17 was great, but the ending prevents me from calling it a "Best Match".

Runners up would be Angle/Lesnar at 19 and Michaels/Angle at 21.

The best Wrestlemania is WM 3 Hogan vs Andre, Steamboat vs. Savage. It was when they had no staging so they could fit 93,173 fans all into the Pontiac Silverdome. There was match after match on the card. Just the fact that it broke an indoor attendance record ranks it up there with the best sporting events.

The best match after all these years is Steamboat vs Savage for the Intercontinental Championship. If you like pure wrestling matches, some of the best matches ever were for the IC title back when it meant something to be IC Champ.

The second for me is strictly sentimental. Wrestlemania 19 cuz I was there live. My first and only WM live experience. Watching The Rock destroy Austin and Brock and Angle tear the house down(before Brock botched the shooting star).

To add on to previous reasons stated I'm going with WM17...

BUT to also add on something else about WM17...

I believe it was the first Mania that Lemmy (and Motorhead) performed for HHH live!!!

Anytime you can include that ugly(yet so fuckin cool) mother fucker into a wrestlemania....you can never go wrong!!!

I say that the iron match was one of the greatest but I think that shawn micheals last match was the best because he did what many people thought he couldn't do and almost defied the odds almost beating the dead man but came up short
Also him verses Ric flair, and him vs bret hart which I want to happen again.

Well, I loved WM 15 because it had the best Rock/Austin match, and it was in Philadelphia, my home town. WM 17, 18, 20, and 21 were also good options. But I have to give it to WM 12. We saw the Wrestlemania debut of Stone Cold Steve Austin, a sick tag match between the Godwinns and the Bodydonnas, Triple H getting squashed by Warrior, Undertaker beating the holy hell out of Kevin Nash, the most untalented man in wrestling, a very unique hollywood backlot brawl between Goldust and Piper, and finally the amazing 60 minute iron man between the Hitman and HBK.

As for the best match... its either HBK vs Angle at WM 21 (My first Wrestlemania), or HBK vs Jericho at WM 19. I'd probably take to the second one though, just to be different.

1. Greatest event: WM 8

This WM had a young hbk debuting his cocky attitude, and a stacked card with the first true double main event (not this bullshit raw title match and sd title match). The best part was the warrior run-un to add a huge surprise to the show.

2. Greatest Match: WM 6 (Warrior vs. Hogan)

This was champion vs champion it was epic.. It had a story that meant something to the fans, it turned friends and familes againts each other for who the best was... In hind-sight it wasnt the best rasslin match BUT it was a phenomenal wm MATCH.

Edge/Foley from Wrestlemania 22 is my favorite Edge match of all time, and one of my favorite Wrestlemania matches of all time. The story was somewhat intriguing. The actual match was amazing. Then, the build up/set up to the following One Night Stand was phenomenal. That, with RVD winning MITB, just made Wrestlemania 22 solidify a good few months of solid programming.

The best Wrestlemania for me was WMXIX. I mean looking at the card from top to down, that match was a supercard. The only gripe is that Limp Bizkit performed one song too many and RVD and Kane were bumped off the card, which is a shame because it would have meant that Lance Storm would have been part of WMXIX.

That said when you have a card like Lesnar/Angle, Jericho/Michaels, and Rock/Austin you know you are in for a good night. Not only that but the rest of the card were all good. Heck I even tolerated Hogan/McMahon, though it should only have went 10 mins IMO.

The best Wrestlemania Match is probably an anomaly considering Bret Hart vs. Austin (WM13) and Angle vs. Shawn Michaels (WM21) are my 2nd and 3rd favoriate WM bouts. But Randy Savage and Ric Flair at WMVIII is the best match for me, of course I only got to see match at 2004 but still what a bout. It was athletic, they brought the drama of the story to the match, the sequencing of Perfect's interference and Liz's appearance was perfectly planned (complete opposite of the Hogan/Sid debacle), the roll up gave Savage the victory but still made Flair look good, and Hennan was great in commentary. It's a shame the match was not the last of the card though :(

Wrestlemania 19 in my opinion is the best I've seen. Austin/Rock, Hogan/McMahon, HBK/Jericho, Angle/Lesnar. Just a lot of high quality matches.

As far as the best match, I'm going to go off the radar a little bit with this, but the Hardcore Match between Edge and Mick Foley at Wrestlemania 22 stands out for me as a really great match. I think myself like a lot of people weren't expecting much going in, Mick hadn't been wrestling much, and most people thought he was pretty washed up. However that was easily the best match of the night, and the ending with Edge spearing Foley through the flaming table was fucking SICK.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. WMXIX was the best overall WrestleMania.

It was in my hometown, it had an awesome crowd on hand to witness some of the best matches in WWE history. The final Rock/Austin match, Hogan/Vince, Angle/Lesnar, Michaels/Jericho, and even Mysterio/Hardy was an awesome match too.

As for the best WrestleMania match of all time, after rather careful consideration I really have to say that the first Michaels/Undertaker match at WM25 was the greatest WrestleMania match of all time. That match single handedly saved WM25 from going the way of WM11 and WM9. It had so much emotion and even though everybody knew how the match was gonna end you couldn't help but jump out of your seat the first time Michaels kicked out of the Tombstone Piledriver. That was some tight stuff.

The best Wrestlemania of all time would have to be Wrestlemania X-Seven. There was no other Wrestlemania which delivered as much as it did, and it was rightfully so because it was supposed to be the end of the attitude era, which had shaped the wrestling business. The kinds of matches it delivered, like Taker vs HHH, Angle vs Benoit, Austin vs Rock, the TLC match with Edge/ Christian vs Hardys vs Dudleys (greatest TLC match), Kane vs Raven vs Big SLow, etc. Its the only Wrestlemania which was ranked as Best Major Show of the Year by the critical Wrestling Observer Newsletter (until Mania 24 also got the same award) and is ranked as the # 1 Mania by 411Mania.com - that itself speaks how great it was.

Card-wise, Wrestlemania 26 had the capability of becoming better than Mania 17, because it had even bigger matches like Vince vs Bret, Taker vs Michaels, Batista vs Cena, Edge vs Jericho, HHH vs Sheamus, Mysterio vs Punk (and HHH being in the 4th or 5th biggest match of the evening itself speaks for how great the rest of the card is). However, it just didn't deliver. The only memorable match from it was Taker vs Michaels, whereas Bret vs Vince was the biggest letdown ever.

In terms of the greatest match ever, that is really a very subjective thing. Having watched all the Wrestlemanias since Mania 3, I'd personally go with Taker vs Michaels at Mania 25. Never seen the crowd so live, never seen so many near-falls/ amazement/ drama, never seen the match exceed the initial hype and expectations, never seen 2 top veterans deliver such a quality match at such an age and outperform all the young 20-year olds in the industry. It is a match which will remain a benchmark for wrestling, and any young wrestler would have to study it to know how to perform well at the grandest stage of them all. Amongst other great matches would be Bret vs Austin, Michaels vs Angle, Bret vs Michaels, Steamboat vs Macho Man. You saw it right, no Austin vs Rock in my list.

I think wrestlemania 19 was the best wrestlemania for me with Triple H VS Booker T, Austin VS The Rock 3, McMahon VS Hogan and Angle VS Lesnar just a grate card.

My favorite Wrestlemania match has got to be The Undertaker VS Shawn Micheals Wrestlemania 25 it was edge of your seat excitement throughout the whole match just awesome in my books.

My favourite Wrestlemania is probably 17 because as people mentioned, the matches were brilliant with battles like Rock V Austin II, HHH V Taker, The EandC V Hardyz V Dudleyz were awesome and even the under card was good. So for me, WM 17 is my favourite.

Best match is probably a three way tie between Kurt Angle V HBK WM21, Bret Hart V HBK WM12 and Randy Savage V Ricky Steamboat from WM3.

gotta agree with all the other posts to this. great manias would be 3, 17 and 19. great matches would have to be HBK vs. Bret, HBK vs. Angle, HBK vs. Taker, Savage vs. Steamboat, Bret vs. Austin, Angle vs. Lesnar, etc. lots of good ones already listed.

but, just to be different.

greatest Mania - WM 23. this one gets the nostalgia vote because i was there. but it also had some good matches on the card. Taker vs. Batista wasn't so bad, neither was HBK vs. Cena (their 60 minute rematch in London was amazing though!). MITB was won by Mr. Kennedy and i've always enjoyed his in-ring work. plus it had the Battle of the Billionaires with Umaga and Lashley and Stone Cold as the special guest referee. just an enjoyable show, but again, i may be jaded because i was there.

greatest match - just to be different, and even knowing the outcome beforehand, i'm gonna say Edge vs. Taker. great main event and i thought that this match was very under-rated. this match surprised me for all the right reasons.

Well at this point in the thread my opinion doesn't mean jack, being just about every good Wrestlemania has been mentioned more than once already. While I agree that WM17 was great, I feel a very important and overlooked Wrestlemania is WM21..

You had the first ever Money in the Bank ladder match, which was also simultaneously the coronation of the "Ultimate Opportunist" gimmick that helped catapult Edge into the stratosphere in which he resides today. There was also the arguably greatest WM match ever between HBK & Angle, and a very underrated opening contest between Mysterio and Guerrero, which is my favorite opener behind Bret & Owen.

The Undertaker/Orton match was great and also vastly underrated, and that was literally the 1st time I thought Taker was truly in danger of losing, when Orton countered the chokeslam into an RKO.

And this was also the night that John Cena and Batista would become 1st time champions, and begin their ascension towards superstardom and remain in the main event scene pretty much forever. Not a bad night if you ask me.

As far as a favorite match, there are many that are close, like Austin/Rock, HBK/Angle, and Savage/Steamboat.. But to put one at the top of the list, I have to go with Bret & Shawn's Iron man match. Simply epic, and game changing..

See I think it's hard to say WM 21 as the best because of the main event let downs. I too loved the HBK/Angle match and Orton/Taker, but because those two were so good, I felt like the main events for the titles didn't get it done. The HHH/Batista match was solid but not great and the JBL/Cena match sucked imo. But I'm not knocking you, you're more than entitled to have your opinion.

Due to the fact that I am and always will be a big Benoit and Guerrero fan, I have to say Wrestlemania 20 was my favorite Mania. Not all the matches were great, I felt Taker and Kane should have went longer then 7 mins, but the ending with Benoit holding the world title and Guerrero holding the WWE title hugging in the ring is what made this my favorite. It was something a year earlier when they were in a triangle tag match against each other at WM 19 that I would have never dreamed of happening but it did and it was a true Mania moment RIP Eddie and Chris

Favorite match would have to be Austin vs Rock at WM 17 by far. A great match with an even greater ending.

@greg_74, I hear ya. The Cena/JBL match was kinda stale, and Batista and Hunter would go on to have better matches at Backlash and Vengeance, but I guess what I was getting at was, with the great matches from HBK/Angle, Eddie/Rey, Orton/Taker, and the Money in the Bank, those matches held the card down, and Cena and Batista had more of a historical importance, even though they werent awesome matches, I think combine the moments of those 2 guys with the other great matches plus a pretty hot crowd all night, and its an important and underrated Mania. But I would never try to convince someone its the best, Im not sure I even think it is. I would say 17, 19, 20, even 24 are all up there.. Does that make sense? LOL

The greatest wrestlemania IMO was WM17. The card was great and the matches delivered their hype.

With best wrestling matches, i will take a different approach and prefer to choose matches with defining moments:

Hogan slamming Andre and 90,000+ being on their feet. Plenty of the wrestlers today will give that day as the reason why they chose to become a wrestler. It looked so unbelievable at that time.

AustinvRock Part III after a very fun match with Austin and Rock exchanging gimmicks, it took Rock to give 3 rock bottoms to SCSA to be pinned. On each one of them you could feel the pain Austin had been going through. That was Austin's last highlighted match, and it made it only better for being against Rock.

Taker vs Michaels Part I&II: During the match at WM 25 for the first time i started thinking if Taker's streak was really on the line. Shawn looked so determined and the match was simply great. At WM 26 although we knew it was Shawn's last match the build up was great. Shawn did everything for months to have the match and it was a good match with Taker delivering a jumping tombstone at the end (a pretty risky move though). It was the last match of Micheals and it was against the only other wrestler who had been wrestling with him since the start of Monday Night Raw. Thats an impressive history to share and to end a career.

I haven't seen many full WM's, but I only have 2 matches that I could think of as the best Wrestlemania matches of all time, and those are Bret Hart/Steve Austin from WM 13 and Bret Hart/Owen Hart from WM 10. In the former you have that image that has been shown many times in the WWE's history, Austin bleeding profusely from the head but not giving up, and the action was great in it as well. In the latter you have the little brother who is trying to prove to everyone that he is better then his brother, and gets the win with a roll up. 2 perfect matches, hard to decide which one is better.

I have only seen 3 full wrestlemania events. I wish I could see them all (without paying). I have seen some of the matches from the Mania's i did not see thanks to websites and dvds. Out of the Wrestlemanias that I have seen (24, 25, 26) I choose 24. Wrestlemania 24 was not only my first Wrestlemania and first ever WWE ppv that I ordered, but it was really good.

Out of the many Mania matches that I have seen, here is a list of the best (Ive tried to put them in order as best as i possibly could):
1. Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26
2. Undertaker vs. Edge at Wrestlemania 24
3. The Hardys vs. Edge and Christian vs. The Dudley boyz at Wrestlemania 2000
and more

Wrestlemania 17 - stacked card but with every match either surpassing or living up to expectations ...best main event of all time in austin vs rock 2

and

Stone Cold vs Bret HArt - Wrestlemania 13 - does this need an explanation ? the most perfectly booked match in wwe history
