The question is simple. Who is the best NHL player to never win a Stanley Cup? Here are some candidates.
Marcel Dionne- This is my pick. He had 6 seasons with at least 50 goals and 8 seasons with at least 100 points. He made the post season 9 times but never made it past the second round. He is probably a top 20-25 player all time in the NHL.
Pat LaFontaine- He made the Cup Finals in his rookie year but never got back. His career is often defined by his injuries and concussions but when healthy he was a tremendous player. He averaged well over a point per game for his career, got at least 40 goals in 7 seasons, and had over 100 points twice.
Mike Gartner- He holds the record with 15 straight seasons of at least 30 goals. In 1993-1994 he played the majority of the season with the Rangers but was dealt to Toronto late in the season. The Rangers won the Cup while the Leafs were knocked out in the West Finals.
Other candidates include: Dale Hawerchuk, Peter Stastny, Gilbert Perrault, etc...
