Best of: Joel Gertner

Yes, you read the title correctly. I was recently bored and watching a bunch of my old ECW VHS's, which I was converting to DVDs. Then something odd dawned upon me. Why has a man that was a GOD on the microphone and could get a huge pop out of any crowd never given a real break in the industry. Ok, outside of the fact that like 99% of the stuff he said could of ever been used on WWF/E TV or any other promotions.

Anyways back to why I started this thread. If for some odd reason, a Best of Joel Gertner DVD were to be released, would you buy it?

I have personally made one and handed it to a bunch of friends that were TRUE ECW fans and a lot of them want me to make them a second version with even more stuff on it.

I wouldn't simply because I would get pissed off that I couldn't see whatever match or event he was talking about seeing as he wasn't involved in most of them. It would get stale about 30 minutes into the feature.

However, he got a huge pop when ECW was in Saint Paul, when he called himself Joel "whether its Mankato or Edina, I get all the vagina" Gertner.

Joel Gertner is one of the best promo guys in the history of the business. Talk about comedic heel! Oh my god.... this guy was genius. The Dudley's had no problem generating heat, but Gernter just added fuel to the fire.

I wouldn't buy a Gertner comp...but I'd torrent the shit out of it, which pretty much goes for nearly all wrestling these days considering I've kind of fallen off of the wagon. Gertner was a stud, though. And besides from doing some solid mic work in character, he was also a damn good ring announcer (back in the early days when he was still skinny). I still remember him announcing the Misterio/Psichosis matches and doing a massive chunk of it in Spanish...at light speed...and sounding very authentic in terms of rolling his R's and whatnot. Pretty badass, if you ask me. Let's see The Fink do that shit.
