Best Movie Intro

Warrior Forever
While looking for a video to post on another thread I came across the intro to one of my favorite movies, Young Guns. I love it when such a simple short scene can be so brilliant, the music definitely gives away that it was made in the 80's but that's part of why I love it. The movie broke away from old western rules by adding a current(at the time) soundtrack and a young cast of hot(career wise :p ) young actors who could help draw a new audience. Yet at the same time the intro is in black in white and helps illustrate the time the movie takes place and brings in a bit of that old black and white western feel. I believe this intro wraps all this into a minute and throws it right at you, and draws you in for an awesome movie.

So what is your favorite movie intro? Why?

My favorite movie opening is from Defiance. Altogether this is an amazing film that I highly recommend, but what I love most about the opening is that it starts off in grainy black and white film. I'm not sure if they shot it in 8mm or just added that affect in post production, but it looked authentic. Throughout this scene it gives back story about what's been happening in this particular region during WW2 and showing footage of Nazis rounding up and killing Jews in a small village. The camera then turns to a soldier who is filming the whole thing and changes from grainy black and white to high quality color film and it goes from there to our main characters and the story begins.

My favorite thing about this scene is the switch from black and white to color. The black and white gives it the appearance that you are watching real footage form the time period and has a much greater impact on what you are seeing than it would have had in been in color. It makes it feel more real.

Maybe not the best ever, but quite a powerful one was the intro from Lord of War with Nicholas Cage. Simply, we follow the assembly of a bullet from a factory, being shipped and transported to a warring nation in Africa. It is packed into the magazine of an AK47 and eventually comes out to find its way into and through the back of a young boy's head.

The rest of the film is solid and is one of Cage's more tolerable performances, but that sequence stands out the most whenever I think of that film.

Yet at the same time the intro is in black in white and helps illustrate the time the movie takes place and brings in a bit of that old black and white western feel.

Felt the same way about the intro to "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." The feel of the old west was captured in those grainy, sepia-toned moving pictures that were supposedly of the original Hole-in-the-Wall Gang.

It set the tone for Paul Newman and Robert Redford to take over the proceedings and inject a more modern feel to what followed.

Great intro.

Ugh, this is a tough pick for me, but I'm going with Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

I've always LOVED everything about this intro. They show how normal and peaceful life was, but then everything takes a drastic turn, when the war in the future is shown, and we get to see the devastation from the aftermath of Judgement Day, and the powerful theme music used at the very end is great. Also, Linda Hamilton's narration is a nice touch here. Sarah Connor explains everything, and her narration really prepares you for the movie.

Judgement Day is one of the greatest action/sci-fi films of all time. There are plenty of thrills and great characters in this film, and the special effects are outstanding. This isn't my favorite James Cameron film (because Aliens will always be #1 for me), but Judgement Day will never be forgotten, and this film will stand the test of time.

I couldn't find a video of it, but the one that immediately popped into my head when I opened this thread was Fight Club. Now, I'm not one of those people who will find flaws in other movies just to make Fight Club seem better; it's a good movie, has it's flaws, has it's highlights, nothing more. Anyway, the scene where Brad Pitt has a gun in Edward Norton's mouth, at first glance, doesn't seem all that unique and strange, you just think that something happened between the two characters... until you actually get to that scene in the movie itself. I'm not going to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it, but for those who have, you know that once the big reveal is well, revealed, that the opening scene carries that much more consequence to the entire movie, and you realize exactly what brought the two of them to this. Very well done intro and tie-in to the rest of the film.

Do The Right Thing

It's such a fresh and energetic way to start the movie. It was a fantastic to start such a powerful film. Spike Lee has never done better work.

28 Weeks Later

While I like "28 Days Later" better, this was an amazing intro. It sets up some characters and just proceeds to run rampart through them. You had no idea how it was going to turn out. Some great camera work and House Heartbeat is just an epic song.

The opening title sequence to Watchmen is probably my favorite intro to a movie in the last ten years or so. It tells the history of the movies world perfectly, showing the differences from our world and it does it all to a classic song and without any real substantial dialogue.

^ YES. Watchmen, man - that was just unbelievably enjoyable to watch.

Another great intro is the intro to Memento

Yes memento is amazing :worship:

but my favorite is more of a visually appealing scene that a scene thats actually helpful in begining to tell a story.

thats one of the best looking title cards I have ever seen! its so gorgousely put together and the oxygen destroyer (capsule thing) helps the movie relat to the first movie in the godzilla series back in 1954. plus japanese letters in 3D just look incredible

This intro really catches the mood of how evil Charlie Bronson is. The music is a great choice and the red lighting while he trains in his cell before he goes out and fights with the cops is just brilliant. The blood & cuts on Bronson is sickening though. But his laugh at the end is pretty funny.

Other mentions: Enter The Dragon, Rocky 3 & A Clockwork Orange
