Best and Worst experiences when meeting a wrestler

mikde_

I'm from Winnepeg you idiot!
I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of users here will have met many wrestlers over the years and i also bet a great deal of you have some interesting stories that you would like to share!

If you dont have any interesting stories to tell then just say who you enjoyed talking to/meeting and the ones you didnt.....

I'll go first!

I'd easily pick CM Punk as one of the worst wrestlers to meet. I went to a run of the mill autograph signing and CM Punk, Kofi Kingston and The Miz were the 3 guys there. Kofi and Miz were both very talkative and friendly but Punk just seemed cold to pretty much everyone. He never really engaged in chit chat with the fans and spent the majority of the time chatting with one of the security guards.

For nicest id have to go with John Cena. I met him outside a live event where he came out to meet and greet fans and took the time to see pretty much everyone there which was about 40 - 60 people. Great guy!

GO!

I can't really say I had a bad experience meeting a wrestler. I never met to many. I met Gillberg Tito Santana and Virgil. I met Tito at a independent wrestling match. One time I was at the mall and i just see Virgil by himself sitting at a autograph table not many people even went up to him. I had no idea was going to be there I just it was random that Virgil was at my mall. He is a pretty nice guy though.
I met Gillberg twice both at independent wrestling shows by house. I really liked Gillberg at the time so I made a menu of all the things that my mom could cook for him and invited him over to dinner when ever he wants. He never showed up. Also my friend dad worked at a trophy store and I had a old toy belt of the WCW champ so I had my friends dad make a Gillberg name plate for the belt. I gave him the belt too and he loved it, the only problem was my friends dad spelled his name wrong. He wrote Gilberg. I still have my picture with Gillberg. I made a Gillberg shirt and Gillberg sweatpants. He was also a really nice guy. I guess you can say I still might be the worlds biggest Gillberg fan

OH Yeah !!!! how could I forget to include this story

I also unknowinglly met Steve Corino. I once went to another independent show and it was the worst shows I have ever seen. I forget the name of the promotion it was a few years ago but it was really bad. There wasn't any one you would have ever here of before and all the guys were terriblly out of shape and they all couldn't wrestle. Steve Corino was wearing a mask and going by the name Mr.Wrestling 3. His match wasn't even that good either but I found out at a later show that Mr.Wrestling 3 revealed to be Steve Corino. I guess you can say that was my worst experince meeting a wrestler

I've only met two, and the first happened to be my childhood hero Hulk Freaking Hogan! He and Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart were in our area to promote Brook Hogan's singing career. After a little concert by Brook, Hulk and Brook signed autographs. I walked up to him, didn't ask for an autograph, extended my hand and told him that after my family he was the biggest presence in my childhood. Touched, he said, "Oh, brother." I thanked him quickly and walked off. But as I walked off I turned around and he was still looking at me. I gave him a smile and a raised fist and he gave me an affirmative raised fist right back. AWESOMEST MOMENT EVER for a Hulkamaniac. Also, as Hulk signed autographs he made sure to give extra special attention to a handicapped young man from our area. It was really fantastic to see a childhood hero be so heroic. I know The Hulkster has fallen from grace a bit, but the man has heroic qualities inside of him, and no one can refute that.

The other wrestler I met was Virgil at Comic-Con. Oh, yeah, the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase was also at the booth with Virgil, but he was busy texting and seemed pretty aloof. So I just told Virgil that as a kid I enjoyed his work. I tried to end it there but he kept pressing me to buy something from his booth. Finally, I relented and bought a shirt as a souvenir for my uncle. I'm not upset about it, the man has to make a living after all, I just wish he hadn't pressed so hard to sell merchandise to somebody who just wanted to shake his hand.

I've yet to have a bad experience but as far as the best it's got to be Sid. I used to work at KMart when I was in High School in the late 90s and we used to get a bunch of washed up local athletes or WCW wrestlers to hold autograph sessions there. Anyway I remember one time we had Sid there.(He was supposed to be there with Sting but Sting got sick so he had to cancel) So Sid showed up there and hung out with all us employees in the back for a couple hours before he was scheduled to appear. He was really cool and down to Earth. We had a portable hoop back in the loading area and he actually played some pick up basketball with us. So he was definitely the coolest out of all the guys I've met, and like I said I never really had a bad one but Sid definitely stood out as the best out of all the wrestlers.

2 of my worst experiences occurred simultaneiously while I was at a WCW house show in Louisiana in the early 90's. El Gigante: I tried to get an autograph and he shook his head and said "no english". Might have been true but I'm pretty sure he knew what the pen and pad were for. Scott Steiner (pre big-poppa pump): Me and my friend were in an area by the dressing rooms and tried to get an autograph while he was walking by and he yelled out "I'll sign it later". He never returned, but we sure waited, missing half of the card. Lol.

And my worst experience occurred in the late 90's when I met the Rock-N-Roll Express at a very small indy event at a national guard armory. It wasn't so much that they were rude or anything, as much as it was that me and my friends were really embarrassed for them. They were extremely out of shape and auctioning off a Rock-N-Roll Express Prize pack. It contained a few autographed pictures and some hats & shirts the guys had personally made with puffy paint!!!! Wow. The hats were a hideous neon green and looked like something from the early 80's, and they had "Rock-N-Roll" writen in said paint. All I could picture was the poor kid that won getting the crap beat out of him at school the following Monday morning for looking so ridiculous in those clothes. My childhood memories of one of a great tag team were instantly ruined.

Best experience was meeting Kurt Angle at a book signing in Wal-mart.

I haven't really had many bad experiences with meeting wrestlers, the only one that would qualify as bad would be when I tried to get an autograph from Owen Heart but he had to leave quickly due to a minor injury he sustained during the match, this was at a house show but I forget what year, this was no fault of his own and not him being rude or anything.

My best experience was probably meeting the Undertaker back in around 1994 or 1995 and finding out that he actually knew my cousins who live in Texas. Besides these all other wrestlers I have ever met have been awesome.

You know what? I take it back, the Ultimate Warrior was a pretty bad experience, he was doing signings after a house show and just seemed really uninterested in meeting anyone and acted as though he shouldn't give any of the fans the time of day. Again I forget the year but it was during his feud with Andre.

I usually avoid meeting celebrities, and haven't met many wrestlers.

But when I was a kid in the mid to late 90's I used to go to CWA Wrestling at the Sportatorium in Dallas every week, and most of the wrestlers hung around the lobby before the matches.

I never had any bad experiences, but Firebreaker Chip (of early 90's WCW fame) was always really cool to me. He was probably the biggest star there cuz of his WCW run, and I was a pretty huge mark for him. I think I got his autograph every week.

I met quite a few when I was deployed to Iraq in 2009 and the WWE was doing its Tribute To The Troops show. Pretty much you name them, I met them there. I ate lunch with Randy Orton in our chow hall and was an escort for a group of wrestlers consisting of Big Show, Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, Eve Torres, The Bella Twins and John Morrison. I also worked out with Morrison and R-Truth. All very wonderful people, I didn't have a bad experience meeting any of them.

I would have to say the worst was Luke Gallows. I wrestle for an indy promotion called Vanguard Championship Wrestling and him and Paul London are regulars on our roster (London is our Liberty champion at the moment). I remember walking up to Gallows when he was signing autographs and just saying hello and he looked at me as if to say Fuck off. I asked him if he saw my match and he just said "yeah" under his breath. He looked like he was having a terrible time. Granted we aren't a huge promotion or anything, but shit man we paid the guy 1000 dollars, first class tickets and a nice motel. At least show us SOME respect.

I haven't really had a bad experience, the only thing close was when I was seeing Chris Jericho's band Fozzy in Hollywood and Miz walked right by me through the crowd before I had time to stop him and when he started walking upstairs to the VIP section someone shouted his name and everyone finally noticed he was there and he saluted the crowd and continued on.

The best was meeting Chris Jericho, I drove for hours in LA traffic to catch him at a book signing for Undisputed and was lucky enough to make it and sit 2nd row during his little interview before the signing. This was during his Dancing With The Stars stint so they had to do a clip for the show and Kristi Alley came in and sat in the chair right behind me and yelled to Chris and his dance partner they needed to come to a party with her after the signing, nice lady though. But when I got to go up and meet Chris he was the nicest guy in the world, he signed my copy of his book, chatted with me for a minute and was very nice when I told him that he was my hero growing up. The one part that sucked was I had ripped my Jericoholic shirt getting out of my car so when I walked up he was like I like your shirt, looks like you have a hole there though. I was a bit embarrassed that I was presenting myself to the king of the world looking like a bum but I was too happy to care, greatest moment of my life.

O man, lots of shit here. Best is probably Ace Steel. Indy show for Harley Race's WLW, he did commentary, but didn't make a big deal out of himself and in Eldon, Missouri, he wasn't that big of a name and let the locals shine. After the show I asked their ring announcer "was that Ace Steel on commentary" "yea, I'll go get him for you, I think he was just about to leave". Immediately I was thinking "damnit, he's going to think I'm a nagging idiot". He came back with a smile on his face and was genuinely interested in talking to me. He talked with me and my cousin for a good 10 minutes about wrestling and becoming a wrestler, etc.

Not necessarily a bad experience for me, but probably for him was Morishima. Same promotion (WLW). They did pre show autograph signings at a local bar. My cousin had this sort of fan gimmick going where he had guys sign a map. It wasn't anything convoluted, just the only thing he had on him the first time and it stuck. You need a background for the story. Morishima is a big teddy bear (apparently). This is the middle of Missouri, pretty redneck town; so he's not likely very comfortable to begin with. My cousin hands him this map to sign, straight faced. Morishima looks at the map, looks at his translator, looks at me, looks at my cousin, looks at the map. He picks up the sharpie, looks at my cousin, back at the map, sees the other signatures on it. Then he goes to open the map. Well, the map has a huge burn hole in the middle, so now he's trying to fold it back up. He fails. Looks at my cousin, looks at his translator, looks at me, looks at my cousin, looks at the map, then signs it. As we are leaving the table, he says something to the translator. The amount of confusion on the big guys' face during this whole ordeal cannot be described in words.

I took a piss next to Terry Funk. Didn't even know he was going to be at the show. Any idea how hard it is not to markout as a 14 year old when you realize you're standing next to Terry Funk? While at a urinal?

I'm going to stop here. Lots of fun indy stories though. Dempsy's comic collection, Chris Masters showing up under the influence of something, Rhett Titus giving Grizzly Redwood shit about not being on the main show, Scott Hall asking for a blonde with big tits at TNA fanfest, which reminds me.

KURT FUCKIN ANGLE. TNA fanfest, I'm get his book signed, I basically praise him for getting me back into wrestling in 2002 and tell him that the book was inspirational. I say "you've had a pretty remarkable life" he goes "yea....." then signs the book. I was like WTF dude. Then he leaves early, which pissed Hall off (why he was asking for a blonde with big tits).

I've met three wrestlers in my life. All pretty positive experiences.

Best to worst:

1. Brian Knobbs (the blonde nasty boy). I met him when I was like 9 years old. Me and my older brother drove to some mall like two hours away, and there was absolutely no line to see him. He seemed really pumped that someone was there. He signed autographs for us, and my brother asked for two more for friends, I think, which he gladly did (all free of charge). Talked to us a while; I was just a little kid, so I wasn't intimidated to talk to him or to be aware of this sort of sad/awkward situation. Real nice, as I can remember!

2. PAC. I just met him a few months ago at a Dragon Gate event. I was fucking wasted and babbled to him about, heck, I don't even know what. After we snapped this picture with him, I said "PAC! You're more ripped than I thought you were, man! You look tiny in videos!" Which I immediately realized was a bizarre thing to say, but he very kindly replied "Yeah, thanks man, been working hard, you know?"

3. Hulk Hogan. Met him when his book came out a couple of years ago. His hand is fucking huge. I rate this one last, because while he was a nice enough guy to me, he was a total creep to the girl in front of me. Like, he held her hand for way too long when they shook hands and was like "I knew I'd meet a beautiful woman in Chicago," or something like that. Gave me a real weird feeling following that..!

hogan is a jerk i have met him i asked for his autograph at the south florida fair a couple of years ago, i said brother can i get an autograph he kept waling then looked back and said i'm not your damn brother, i know some people have different stories but the man is a phony two faced jerk to me! I MET KING KONG BUNDY YEARS AGO HE WAS VERY NICE TO ME AND EVEN DID THE FIVE COUNT DEAL. vader was pretty aloof and when i mentioned flair, he said flair aint shit and spit on the floor this was when vader was in wwf. jim cornette is hilarious and he went off on wcw jim herd anderic bischoff, i met bischoff and he was a prick very arrogant said it has been your pleasure, was he in character? maybe maybe not.

Best to Worst:

Cena: Just a nice guy. We talked for like 10 minutes, and seemed like he cared. Down to earth guy.

HBK: Nice, cool guy, nice to everyone.

Kofi Kingston: Cool guy, only got to talk to him for a little bit, seemed nice.

Randy Orton: Wow. What a dick. He (no joke) pushed a couple 6 or 7 year olds out of the way asking for autographs. Also told a dad asking for him to take picture with his kid to "fu*k off." Charming.

I've only met a couple wrestlers.

I met Virgil at a car show a couple years back. His booth was by this area where they had a freestyle motorcross area and they were doing a show, and I happened to be standing near where he was, and then he came out from behind his desk and was watching the show. We ended up chatting about the crazy motherfuckers on the motorcycles. We talked for a good ten minutes or so, and wrestling never came up. I bet he didn't even think I knew who he was

I met David Flair and Stacy Kiebler at a Hooters back in he day. Me and coworker were having lunch and they came in for lunch and sat at the table next to us. Ended up shooting the shit with them too, and much like Virgil, wrestling never really came up in the conversation.

So I guess I've never had a bad experience.

As cool as it was meeting Bret Hart at a book signing session, he didnt really seem that interested in talking. He did answer a question I asked him, but there were big security guards all around him and you werent allowed to get a photo with him. They took the camera off you and photgraphed you stood infront of him as he was signing your book..Fuck man, I want a picture posing with the Hitman!

I met Rhino at an Indie show and you could also tell he didnt really want to talk to the fans. He was pleasant, but not overly chatty.

Chris Hero was cool though, at the same show as Rhino. He seemed genuinely pleased to chat to the fans, and posed for a cool picture. That was pretty sweet. Nice guy, that Chris Hero.

I have only met two wrestler but they were very good experiences. I met Kane at a meet and greet in NYC. He was very sweet. I said, You are the best wrestler i the world!" He said, thank you so much." My friend that I brought with me said, "Don't let Jericho hear you say that." Kane responds, "He'll probably agree." and he starts laughing. His hands are pretty big, but they are very soft.

The other guy I met was Zack Ryder. He was very sweet to his fans ad I didn't really talk to him but he was enthusiastic the whole time of the meet and greet. He let fans pose with his Internet Championship belt and everything. He was cool. Daniel Bryan was also at this signing and I don't know why but while my friends were getting their pictures taken I screamed out "Chuck Norris!" at him. He looked at me and started chuckling. He is cool too, he didn't get mad so I guess he didn't really mind. The beard just reminds me of Norris. lol

The best experience for me is meeting Eric Young at a TNA house show in my area. I've gone on about this before, but I can't say enough nice things about Eric Young. He's completely down to Earth, and will just go on and talk to you about anything you want for any length of time. After a few minutes, it's not even like talking to a wrestler, more like talking with just a plain cool dude. He's as chill and laid back as they come, and you couldn't ask for a better experience meeting a wrestler.

The worst, well, I haven't really had a bad one, to be honest with you. From the same house show, I thought Kurt Angle was a little standoffish, but there are a lot of factors around that that I can see excusing it. It was hot, his family was there...so on, so forth. I don't begrudge him it at all, but I would just say that he was a little short.

I got to do the PSD for the first tribute to the troops in Baghdad. Our BN got picked for the detail and instead of picking a platoon to cover it they asked the companies for a list of wrestling fans and tried to pick some squads based on that.

It was awesome. Didn't get to see Vince McMahon for long but did get a handshake. I thanked him for doing the show and he thanked me for being there. That's pretty typical for anyone that comes on a USO show, but he seemed very sincere. He travelled differently than the crew so he wasn't around as much as the other guys.

I was around Big Show more than any other wrestler. I can't say enough good things about how him. He was really funny but you could tell he was proud that it meant so much for us to get to see them do what they do.

I met Bret Hart at a quick trip gas station off of highway 270 in St. Louis. He was getting gas at the pump right across from us. I said excuse me are you and he laughed and said yes before I could finish the question. Told him I was a big fan and we shook hands. He was friendly.

Met Jake Roberts at a hardware store when I was really young. I don't remember it at all but apparently he was doing some kind of autograph and photo session there. When my parents moved my dad found them in them in the bottom of a junk drawer in the kitchen. He looked so much skinnier in the picture than I remember him.

When I was a senior in high school my meteorology went on a field trip to New York for a tour of NBC studios. This was around WrestleMania when Big Show and Floyd Mayweather were fighting each other. When we got to NBC studio Big Show and Floyd was there doing an interview about their upcoming match. I had no idea they were going to be there but I thought it was so cool. Both guys remained in character the whole time and Big Show eventually got angry got in one of Mayweathers bodyguards face and then just walked off. It was really fun to see that in person. Floyd Mayweathers bodyguards were some of the biggest guys I have ever seen in my entire life. It was like being in a room with 5 other Big Shows. Although I didn’t actually get to personally meet any of them it was defiantly a cool surprise to see The Big Show on a school field trip

My best experience meeting a wrestler was the 2nd time I met Edge. I had his star tattoo and he thought it was pretty cool. I told him he was my favorite wrestler of all time to which he jokingly said "dude, me?" I told him about the many times I had told my friends that I wanted to get his autograph tattooed under the star tattoo. He called b.s. and signed my arm. Then, he offered to eat at waffle house with me. We stayed there a while, but I left early to go get my tat. I met him a few months later and he immediately recognized me. I then got his cross tattoo and met him about 2 yrs after the initial time. He recognized me again and bragged to Natalya about his autograph. Luckily, I got to witness his last match live at WM27. While at Axxess, I met christian and he said "oh, you're the guy with the tattoo."

Met Low Ki outside of the arena after Lockdown. Think it was the first one held outside of Florida. He was nice and signed for everyone. Got a pic with him as did just about everyone else, about 20 or so people. This stood out because none of the other wrestlers paid a bit of attention to us. Sting almost ran over a few people as he drove out the gate.

The worst would be a local indie wrestler. He wrestled as "The Teacher" in real life he was a gym teacher or something at a local high school. Really nice guy. After seeing him at a few shows a friend and I started a conversation with him during intermission. We struck a bit of a friendship and would always talk at the various shows. This went on for a few months. About a year later was watching the news and they were talking about a local wrestler charged with attempted murder. Turned out to be my buddy "The Teacher". Freaked me out.

got to meet the undertaker on my flight from chicago to austin, tx. amazingly nice guy. got a picture with him and he even offered to do a quick interview (we were in Austin for a college journalism conference) very intimidating but a very down to earth guy

Best: The Godfather was absolutely hilarious when I met him, genuinely just a funny guy who had a lot of time for fans. The APA were awesome too

Worst: Toss up between Benoit, who just didn't want to be there and really let everyone know it, or Lita, because it was a bar and I tried to hit her before being told to leave pretty quickly :D

Best experience was when I met Lauren the former TNA interview girl. I met her at a comic convention in NYC. She is the nicest person in wrestling I ever met. She was so sweet. I don't like golf, but I did check out the show she did on the golf channel.

I don't really have any bad experiences, but a few of them could have been a lot better. I mean when i met Ric Flair for the first time, I was expecting the jovial person I see on tv. He didn't look happy and wasn't talkative. Also he seems shy. When Triple H did a book signing he refused to sign extra items claiming that it wasn't up to him.
