Baseball fan leap's to his death

CM Steel

A REAL American
On Thursday at a Texas Rangers game while playing the Oakland A's. A fan was trying to catch a foul ball towards the outfield where him and his family were sitting 20 feet high. But upon trying to catch the foul ball for his young son. He lost his balance on the rail reaching for the ball and fell 20 feet to his death head first.

His son witnessed the whole thing, which is very sad. Now his last memories of his father is his father doing something for him.

This is very bad news right now. Not just in sports, but in life period. We need more parents like him around, and less Casey Anthony's.

Rest in Peace Shannon Stone...aka Superdad!

This is the second time someone has died at a ball park this season after falling and hitting the concrete. It was without a doubt an accident but it is an extremely tragic one and MLB needs to look into ways to improve ball park safety.

Obviously these types of accidents are few and far between but measures still need to be taken to prevent them. You don't want to ruin the experience of the fans but I guarantee a healthy medium can be met where safety is increased and the fans experience isn't affected.

The fans themselves also need to start being more cautionary. Obviously when reaching for a fly ball you don't expect something tragic to happen but reaching over a railing when you are 20 feet above nothing but concrete isn't exactly the smartest thing to do. I'm not blaming the father who died as he was doing nothing but trying to get a souvenir for his son but every possible way of improving safety needs to be looked at.

For the sake of accuracy, I believe what happened was Josh Hamilton caught the ball and then tossed to the dad who then reached over to catch and that's when the accident happened.

Its obviously very sad, but this should wake up teams to look at their stadiums and see if there are any areas where they can improve fan safety. While these accidents rarely happens, fans are always trying to nab whatever they can to take. Owners should take a hard look and see what they need to do so that fans are absolutely safe. Really a sad story with no one to blame here.

Hopefully Josh isn't taking it to hard and blaming himself. He was trying to be a good guy and make some kid's day, and it all went to shit. It's a tragedy that a veteran firefighter had to die in such a horrific manor with his son standing right there watching, but it was his own stupidity that caused it. He leaned way over a very short railing to catch a baseball. Not even an autographed one, just a plain baseball. I know he was trying to make his kid happy and I admire that, but that was a tad overboard. There are things that should, and will be done to prevent anything like this from happening again because it's just plain horrific to have happen at a place where people go to have a good time. I'm sure the MLB will attempt to find a way to prevent this from happening again, and I feel sorry for the man and his family.
