Balls Mahoney Passes away

Another one has passed, Balls Mahoney is the latest.

I just found this out and it bothers me, he was very popular in the original ECW.

His chair swinging antics were stuff of legend, I did not know much about him
personally but from what I have heard he seemed like a decent human.

I think my favorite match of his was against RVD at a Cyberslam not sure what year. He worked his ass of in that match and it was a way better match than I was expecting.

R.I.P to Balls.

Strangely enough, two of my most memorable childhood moments from wrestling involves Balls Mahoney.

He wrestled in the first match I ever saw live. I went to an ECW house show when I was 7 years old, and the first match on the card was him vs. Rodney Mack. It wasn't great or anything, but I was WAY into it. I had a great time and got pretty mad when Mack won.

Also when I was a kid, I had a bunch of toy wrestlers, and my cousin and me would have a "draft" to see which wrestlers we got to play with. One rule was that you had to choose your wrestlers with your eyes closed. My cousin was a huge fan of Edge and hated Balls Mahoney. Problem is he always mistaked Balls Mahoney for Edge and would choose Mahoney instead. Then he would get really mad while I would nearly pass out from laughing so hard.

Mahoney provided some memorable moments for me in the very little I saw of him. He had a good career and will be missed.

Whoa. Talk about completely out of left field.

Both of the "The Hardcore Chair Swingin' Freaks" are now dead, and two months from each other. They were one of my favorite ECW acts and it's so sad to see this.

RIP

This really fucking blows. He was always one of my favorites, and he was such a fun character. Super nice guy behind the scenes too. Completely out of nowhere, and the day after his birthday.

What. The. Fuck.

RIP, you hardcore chair swingin' freak...

According to PWInsider.com, while the details of Balls Mahoney’s death are still scarce, he reportedly suffered a bad fall days ago and injured his hip. The report adds Mahoney was using a walker following the fall, then he became ill, and earlier today passed away.

It’s unknown at this time whether or not the fall and subsequent sickness lead to Mahoney’s death, but we will keep you updated as soon as new information becomes available.

No 44 year old should fall and most likely break a hip like a 84 year old would, let alone have that fragile of a body. This shows that many of these guys that were in ECW had their bodies away for a cheap paycheck. Unfortunate.

I saw recent pictures of Balls Mahoney and he looked terrible, he'd lost a lot of weight and looked like a 60 year of heroin addict. I'm sure I read he'd had alot of problems with drugs over the last few years, although I dont know how true those rumours are. It wouldn't surprise me though.

This is sad news, especially as he had a wife and son. 44 is no age whatsoever, yet another wrestler taken too soon. Yet another of the former ECW guys who's died so young. How many of them are left and are healthy???

RIP Balls you crazy bastard.

Dreamer, Richards, Raven, Meanie (yup), Funk (relatively), Dudley Boyz, Rhyno, Storm, Credible, Corino, New Jack (how?)...

I'm sure there's more, but that's a quick list.

There was a thread a while back that focused on mostly unknown examples of pro-wrestlers playing two wildly different roles, I can't for the life of myself find it.

A lesser known gimmick of Balls Mahoney was that of Xanta Claus in early 90's WWF. I found it wildly entertaining and would torture my parents by saying that Xanta Claus lives at the South Pole, and that it was proof that human beings could endure extreme cold.

Few people really make pro-wrestling fun just by showing up, he was one of the few. I'm gonna' miss that chair swinging crazy man.

The name "Balls Mahoney" stood out to me so much when I read it in PWI before ever having seen ECW.

From his interviews he seemed like the nicest guy, same with Axl. The hardcore style takes its toll on your body, usually using drugs to combat the pain. The sport took them but they lived for it. Ball's sit out power-bomb off the second rope on Chris Candido at a house show is the best move I've ever seen.
