Bad Ol' JR?

It's...Baylariat!

Team Finnley Baylor
It seems as if Jim Ross has once again showed his distaste for the internet rumor mill and their spin on how he's been treated in the WWE.

He goes on to talk about how all of the stuff that's done to him is 'fictional' and is simply done for entertainment. Fair enough. But the fact is Vince McMahon's treated Jim Ross like crap. Of course, JR will never come out and say it until he's retired from the WWE, but it doesn't take a smark to know that he's miserable sometimes. He has to be. I don't care how loyal you are to anyone, but when you're constantly embarrassed on worldwide TV and are the butt of many jokes, most of which are distasteful, how can you possibly be happy?

So the question is whether JR's out of line for dissing the fans for simply being sympathetic about him and is JR really an asshole? Or is he misunderstood?

Also...how long will JR last in the WWE?

I think he's just sick of his fans bitching about it. Besides, his restaurant is doing well enough that if he was really miserable in the WWE, he'd leave. I'm sure he's not as miserable as a lot of people make him out to be, though. If he was, he would have left by now, I would think.

JR's in a bad position. He has to be frustrated with the way that WWE treat him at times, though he doesn't need to be constantly pestered about how bad he's treated. He knows it happens. It's like Kobe Bryant playing a shit game and getting fouled out, then being followed around for ages by people telling him he played shit. It'd be annoying as hell.

He can't just come out and say that WWE sucks as well. taht would only lead to further bad treatment, which would lead to further annoying fans, which would lead to further JR pissyness.

Until JR leaves his job in the WWE (which I hope will be soon since I find his announcing these days to be awful), he's stuck in this position. There is no win.

I"m sure that he IS as miserable as we all make him out to be. How would you feel if you were the butt of many jokes? How would you feel if you had to have surgery and it was downplayed INTERNATIONALLY on television in a skit in which numerous objects were removed from your ass including your own head? How would you feel about kissing your bosses ass on LIVE television? IDK Maybe that sounds like a good time to you but I'm not one to judge.

I think JR just loves the business too much and has such a great relationship with most of the wrestlers that he just kind of "bites the bullet" so to speak. I mean, he LOVES taking part in the wrestling business and if he were to leave the WWE, what other wrestling options does he have? Is he going to go to TNA to be an announcer? I don't think so.

So for the time being, JR will eat shit and smile about it. I can't wait for the shoot interview when he retires and no longer works for Vince as I'm sure that there are things that he wants to say that he can't at the moment. It's like Bret Hart's autobiography. Its the best one written because it was not under the WWE banner and nobody had any control over what was said except for Bret Hart.

I'm not sure I follow the trail of thought here. Santino's running around in a dress, Dylan Postl has spent the past three years pretending to be a leprechaun, William Regal's had to kiss MacMahon's ass too, and he "drank" urine, Kurt Angle is a legitimate Olympic champion and he went out and did something embarrassing weekly. It's called having a sense of humor. I don't understand why having an oft-embarrassed on-air character in the company that is at the top of the business you love would make you miserable. I'd kiss Vince MacMahon's ass if he gave me a job on-air. Hell, I'd kiss Mae Young's ass. Just line 'em up.

Jim Ross will be in the WWE hall of fame probably before he even retires from the WWE, he's one of the most well-respected announcers in the business, not to mention he probably makes more money annually than anybody here makes in a decade; and what's the bad side, every once in a while he has to humiliate himself in front of millions of fans who love him no matter what he does anyway? Fuck that, if Jim Ross is miserable than he's the most ungrateful sack of shit to ever walk the earth.

Ok.....no hard feelings but JR is already in the WWE HOF. I don't want you to think I"m trying to flame you or anything, but its hard to take your opinion serious when its obvious that you have NO idea what you're talking about. All the people you named that have done stupid shit are WRESTLERS and have done these things to get a reaction and get over.

JR is in no way, shape or form a wrestler, and will never be confused as one. So tell me, what is the point of making him the focus of the show in any way, even for just a 2 minute comedy sketch? Quite frankly I don't see any point to this as there is no reason for JR to be getting any type of reaction unless it is for his announcing skills.

I agreed with what Madden wrote regarding Vince and JR. Vince would probably love to get rid of him, but he can't because there isn't anyone better who does what he does. I would hate to think Vince is that much of a doosh that he wants him gone because of his Bells Palsy. But I wouldn't doubt it either.

I wouldn't feel too bad for JR either. His wife is smokin' hot, he has a very popular BBQ joint and I am sure he has a nice lump of cash in the bank considering it seems like he has been around since Ric Flair won his first title.

Jebus chris, why are people worried about how J.R is treated in wwe? Obviously he not being unpayed nor is he underappreciated because he seem for the mos part confortable in his position. Granted he was hit with unexpected things or even moments that were embrassing but do u think JR is grown man who can take up for himself. I understand the support for the man even if he does things he may not wanna do everyone does at any job they work at and JR. In addition its vincces company he does what he wants so if JR leaves it will be a loss to the company but he can be replaced just like tazz was. Trust me most people would switch with JR in a heartbeat so before u turn JR into a victim see how much the wwe pays this man to eat shit and tell me u wouldn't do it

I'm gonna take a page out of Good Old J.R.'s book and say "I'm not going to speculate on anything" as it pertains to him and his job situation. I am only going to say this; I am a lifelong fan of this business and I have a huge amount of respect for JR and what he does for this business. In my book there is no one currently as good as he is at what he does and there was no one as good as him in the past! I know thats saying a lot but it's my own personal opinion and that's what this site is for...opinions. I hope I get to hear Good Ole' JR for years to come but if he decides to put the headset down I will respect his decision and I will be slightly heavy in the ears and heart when that day comes. And when it comes I will probably start a chant similar to the ones I chant for Rock, Austin, and other greats... "One More Match!" So I hope JR is happy where he is in his life and I will continue to enjoy his match calling until he decides to hang it up for good!

Whether or not someone is a wrestler or not is irrelevant as far as public embarrassment in professional wrestling is concerned. JR isn't the only announcer who has been in the middle of an embarrassing angle. Remember Michael Cole getting molested by Heidenreich?

The thing is, people like JR. He's probably the most popular announcers of the past 10-15 years and his likability and now legendary status makes him a prime target when they want to generate heat for a heel. Him not being a wrestler, as has been pointed out in this thread, only makes him that much more sympathetic when he's getting picked on by the bigger and stronger bullies.

Announcers, like the wrestlers, especially in the WWE are performers all the same. They have a different role to play than the wrestlers, sure, but they're still performers just the same. And as such are not exempt from the segments that may be looked at as degrading.

Hey folks, this is my first response since joining the site a couple of days ago, so be gentle with me...but I think that at times Vince is a playful bully to see how J.R. would respond to certain things. I don't think that Vince does the things he does to try and piss off J.R. to the point where J.R. would "take his ball and go home." But I remember reading about how Vince and the other wrestlers would pick on Paul Bearer when he was around, mainly because of his weight...but I don't think that J.R. has gotten embarrassed any worse than anyone else, like all the people that have kissed McMahon's ass, Bischoff literally being thrown out with the trash, the Spirit Squad being mailed and repackaged to OVW...sure these were all parts of storylines at the time, but still, at the end of the show they are all still getting paychecks and that's all that really matters to them.

But look how mad J.R. seems to get at Big Dick Johnson in this video...and this wasn't even put on television

Has JR been the victim of many jokes? Sure. Have some of them been mean spirited and simply unfunny to anyone except VKM? Yup. Have these ever pissed JR off? Almost certainly.

But at the end of the day, I think JR gets by just fine with a nice pay check (no idea what it is and don't want to, but I'm pretty sure it allows him and his family to live comfortably), having a job that he genuinely loves, and being considered the best in the business today and one of the all time greats.

I think that JR is willing to put up with some ribbing. And it's not like it's a constant thing. A few embarrassing moments a year at most. I think that if you asked him which he'd rather deal with, the ribbing or returning to the stressful position of being VP of Talent Relations, he would almost certainly say the ribbing.

I for one am more than willing to take the man at face value if he says it doesn't bother him. His quality of work has earned that much respect from me.

J.R. just seems to be sensitive. I can never understand these wrestling personalities that say the internet is full of garbage who then turn around and spend so much time hurling insults at said internet community. If what people say doesn't matter then why are they still reading it and dignifying it with a response? You're probably not going to change peoples' opinions anyway.

J.R. has a big fancy website where he pimps his BBQ sauce, posts blogs on a daily basis and does Q&A. Because of that he should learn how to take the good with the bad and roll with it instead of throwing hissy fits.

I think a lot of you are putting too much thought into how J.R. feels doing his job. Yeah, he may get a little bit steamed at first, but as far as I can tell, he seems to be taking the jokes well in the long run. He came out on his personal website that has nothing to do with the WWE and basically said that he understands it was a joke in the name of entertainment.

There wasn't anything terribly embarrassing or demeaning about it. You think anyone really thought Santina was in love with J.R.?

It wasn't even real in kayfabe.
