April 15

This is one of the most important days in not just sports history, but in American history. As many baseball fans would know, this is the day that Jackie Robinson, a man with a lot of courage and strength, broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball since 1887. April 15, 1947 he broke the color barrier. It a major turning point in the 20th century, up there with the MLK I had a dream speech, the spygate and many others. Thanks to Mr. Robinson, we all live a better life. Thanks to him, he open the gate for the MLK's, Malcolm X's, Black Panthers, Muhammad Ali, N.W.A., Barack Obama and others to express themselves. This day should be a national holiday because of all of what that man did by picking up his bat, yet it is treated like any another day. Jack Roosevelt "Jackie" Robinson desreves more than this.

Your thoughts on this day and what it may mean to you, as I know some might think it doesn't mean much.

Define what you mean by more than this? People recognize Jackie Robinson. The man has his jersey retired by every major league baseball team. People recognize Jackie Robinson is so many different ways. Wasn't it like last year when every player wore his jersey on an appreciation day? The man is recognized as an all time great, he has an award after him, some statues, his jersey hanging up in almost every stadium... What else do you want? People bending over and kissing his ass? The man gets a lot of respect, and asking for more is ridiculous.

The day it self means nothing to me, but the name Jackie Robinson means a lot. He changed the game, and made the game better. Sort of like Roberto Clemente, but Robinson's was more important.

Jackie does deserve more than this. He open up the gates for many black leaders and figures in all of America. There should be a day to rememeber what he did, you may not think he did much, but he did a lot and took much slack. He deserves that number retired in all of baseball because of what he did. He is a legend and more Americans should know more about him. I don't understand how MLK has a day, yet he doesn't. This day lead to him.

Second off, I am latino, but I would never ever put Roberto Clemente in the same breath for what they did. What Clemente did was great and was an example of what pro athlete's should do, but Robinson did carried his race and many minorities on his back. He is/was truly amazing.

There's nothing else they can possibly do for him. I respect everything he's done being a sports addict, and realize had he not done his work it wouldn't be as enjoyable. But really, what else do you think they can do? Everything on this day is dedicated to him already. I know I'm not being disrespectful towards him, I just can't think of anything else we can do to honor his memory. I think we can all agree with you on his great accomplishments.
