Any musicians in the house?

Getting Noticed By Management
I went back at least 5 months and checked for a similar thread but found nothing so sorry if I missed it. Question is simple: Do you play an instrument and if so, which one? I f you like you can add why you picked that instrument what type of music you play with it, whatever. As for myself I have an acoustic/electric Epiphone and an electric Indiana. I picked to play guitar because my friend did and I thought it was about the coolest thing. I started out playing the easy stuff (Nirvana, White Stripes, and all the famous licks: Smoke on the Water, Wild thing, etc.) and now I play mediocre tough stuff (Cream, Zeppelin, Temple of the Dog). It's all definitely rock though.

I am a musician. I have quite a few different instruments.

I have a selmer series II Soprano Sax which at the time I thought I was going to use for a couple of gigs but I have yet to use it. The sound when I first played it was beautiful. It's actually hard to control the soprano sax believe it or not.

I also have a Con 25m Intermediate level saxaphone (which at the time I bought it we thought it was professional). Which I absolutely love. I mostly use that in my gigs.

I have a Yamaha Tenor sax which believe it or not sounds really nice. Yamaha makes great instruments. Truth be told it has a nice Japanese sound to it.

Last but not least is my beauty. the Korg M3 73 key piano.

What can I say about this piano that hasn't been said. It's the only Keyboard with a full axis joystick and Ribbon, its the only keyboard with a Touch screen. my god what a beautiful instrument. Just listen to the overview.

I don't know if you'd count this but personally, i would.

I don't play an instrument of any kind, but i can sing pretty well. I've recently joined a Metal band called 'Laid Wasted' (yeah, i didn't really like the name, but i'm the newest member so i'm not going to start throwing my weight around straight away, even if i am the frontman). We've had a few teething problems with guitarists, plus i live fuckin' miles away from these guys so it'll be a while before we're gigging or anything like that, but it's an opportunity to do what i enjoy most, so why the fuck not?

We've written about 8 or 9 tracks with only one cover to our current set, which is 'Doomsayer' by Hatebreed.

Metal is my favourite genre of music but i'd be more than open to singing along with anything really. I like quite a lot of 80's music and sing along to that quite frequently when it's on.

When writing lyrics however, i guess i'm somewhat limited. Because i like a lot of dark, aggressive entertainment like wrestling, horror movies, comic books (mostly Batman), i guess a lot of them would sound very similar in terms of their style. Here's the subject matter for the lyrics i've written so far:

Not Interested - Imagine if Superman no longer gave a fuck. As if he were no longer interested in saving us from ourselves.

It's Enough To Make You Laugh - Basically my interpretation on the Joker's philosophy of life, that life is a sick joke and it's always on everyone, all the time.

I.V. - Is a play on the term 'Poison Ivy' because the song is about her character, without directly referencing her name at all.

Anti-Life - An ode to Jack Kirby's New Gods, primarily, Darkseid.

Hope Stealer - is actually based on a single line of Batman TAS spoken by Mr. Freeze. "I have not come to steal bones Dr. Madson. I've come to steal hope!"

And i'm currently working on 'Zur-En-Aarh', (again from Batman) 'Tomorrow Has No Guarantee' (an idea that came to me as i was getting baked with my 2 best friends, so if anyone says weed can't inspire people, they're wrong), and 'Cut That Fringe'(which is a tune the band had written before i came along, but wanted new lyrics, basically slagging off Emo music to no end).

I've also got plans for 'Over The Hills...' where if you've ever watched Sharpe, you'll know that nearly every episode ends with a verse from an old war song called 'Over The Hills and Far Away', so basically i'd want to do that, even if i literally just took the lyrics from Sharpe.

And then if that worked well i'd probably do the same for a song describing each of the different Corps in Green Lantern.

I did used to be in a band before called 'Beyond Decay' but we didn't get far because our guitarists suddenly developed massive egos and then ditched me and our bassist and took our drummer, and now neither of them are doing any music at all, and the drummer is in quite a succesful Metal band here in the UK called 'Drowned By Oceans'. Anyway, we wrote about 3 tunes called 'Nightmare Conspiracy' (based purely on those two words. Those two words came into my head, and the lyrics just wrote themselves from there.), 'What Is Your Pleasure, Sir?' (which I wrote after watching 'Hellraiser II') and 'Withdrawal Symptoms' (which was based on one of my girlfriends and how she chose to end our relationship, basically...... yeah there had to be one in there somewhere, lol).

I tried to learn the guitar but along with needing to re-string my guitar and having fucked up hands with bizarre curved fingers that don't stretch properly, i don't really have the discipline for it, but i will give it another go one day, when i have more time to myself.

Anyway, that's all.....

Guitar, Bass (slap/finger/plectrum), Drums, & alto sax years ago. Started playing music when i was young, been playing for almost two decades now. Had a bunch of gear over the years (Washburn, Epi, Gibson, Squire, Gretsch) but I always seem to come back to Fender for my guitar(Mustang, Stratocaster, Jagstang, Cyclone, Toronado GT) and bass (P and fretless J) needs. Amps are generally Peavy or Marshall (solid-state and tube). Have a bunch of vintage 60s stomp boxes and try to keep my sound as analogue as possible. Kit I played on wasn't mine. It was a 5-piece Tama kit from the mid-60s with modern Gibraltar hardware/stands/double bass pedal, Evans drum heads, and Zildjian titanium cymbals.

I play several instruments, mostly fretted string instruments and have been playing for nearly half of my life. I started with guitar and bass, then learned trumpet in school. After that I started venturing into less popular instruments (banjo, mandolin, etc.). The instruments that I currently play are guitar, bass, piano/synth, trumpet, tuba, mandolin, banjo and a little bit of drums. I play and write music for all of these instruments.

I own quite a bit of gear:
-Acoustic Guitars: Conn C11, Gibson Hummingbird True Vintage (Most Beautiful Guitar Ever)
-Electric Guitars: Ibanez Artcore, Gibson Les Paul Studio
-Bass: Brownsville Violin Bass, Hartke Starter Bass
-Mandolin: Epiphone MM-30
-Banjo: Fender FB-54
-Piano: Casio AP200
-Synth: Korg MICROkorg

A little bit of guitar, both electric and acoustic. Nothing special, just a few chords here and there. Need to buy one cuz I've been thinking about learning to play some flamenco.

I also play piano or keyboard (or whatever the "music" is called) since my senior year of high school. Need to practice more.

Bit of a vocalist too. Need training so I can work on folk and Americana projects of my own. I'm already a black metal, death metal, and skramz vocalist, though I wouldn't necessarily call it talent.

I play acoustic guitar, I more functional at it than anything. My main musical outlet it singing, though. Mostly in the musical theatre region. I've done two operas as well, but I didn't really enjoy them as much as I did doing the musicals or as much as I enjoy doing acoustic covers of songs.

So yeah, I'm a classically trained vocalist who stumbles through guitar playing every now and then to accompany myself singing.

I play several. I was in band in school so I played Trombone origionally. But I also marched a year of Tuba. I can play Baritone and Trumpet as well. My senior year I started a band with my 2 friends from school, also Trombone players, and the band director from a school a few miles down that I had known for a while. We all played guitar primarily, the band director Joe had been a few bands before so he was picked for guitar and singing. So I decided to go to bass. Although ive played drums and guitar for the band when needed. my gear included:
Guitar: Jackson Warrior, Gibson SG White, Fender Strat, and Ibanez GRX.
Bass: Dean and Ibanez
Drums: I own a PDP 7 shell kit with 6 cymbols and a double bass pedal.

This is my baby. The bass I play with live. It fits perfectly, our band colors are Green and Black.

Im also the co-writer of our songs. Here are a few examples of our music.

1934 is a song about Hitler and him wanting to be a painter.
Daddy is about our lead singers dad committing suicide, true story.
Show Stopper is about a crappy venue we played one time and my ex who broke up with me right as we were going on stage.
Skeleton In The Closet is about blackmail.
Leech is about a past ex of our guitarist who leeched off of him however she could.
Cocoon is about breaking away from the comfort of your parents and moving out.
Grotesque Display is about boobs. There was a drunk girl in front of me and the singer at the ACDC concert in Charlotte in 08. We wrote that song when we got home from the concert.
We also play some covers. Change by the Deftones, Shine by Collective Soul, Wicked Game by HIM who coverd Chris Iisac, Stripped by Rammstein who covered Depeche Mode, Folsom Prison by Cash, and rarely Thunderstruck by ACDC.

Well I've been playing the drums since the third grade. I played all the way through high school, including playing the incredibly heavy quad toms with the marching band.

In 6th grade, I tried to team myself guitar. Instead, I took a guitar class through my school for two years and I still play a little. My first guitar was a little Strat, but I upgraded now and now I have a Gibson SG and I love it.

A year ago, I bought an electric piano to teach myself how to play. I've always loved the piano and I really wanted to learn how to play. I already knew the notes and how to form chords from playing bells in school (they were part of the percussion section). Right now, I mainly learn how to play individual songs with sheet music or tutorials online, but I also like to mess around and make my own chord progressions. I'm sure it wont be the last instrument I try to learn.

From grades 5 through to 8, I used to play alto sax. I don't really remember why I chose to learn it, I think it had something to do with Lisa Simpson playing the sax though. :p I lost interest in about a year, but my teacher kept on telling me I shouldn't give up, as I passed the Grade 2 examination after 4 months, skipping Grade 1. The thing with it was, everyone said I kept on getting better, but I never practiced, and eventually it just became a chore and I gave it away.

I sing a little bit, and I am getting singing lessons, but I'm not really confident at all with my singing. I have a great range apparently, but I seem to have a very monotone voice that I can't break out of. I can sing along with heaps of things and cover songs easily, but when it comes to originals I can think of a melody, but can't sing it to save my life. One thing i'm good at with singing though is playing guitar and singing at the same time. Some things that would seem hard to sing and play at the same time ie. God Send Conspirator by Coheed or The Sound Of Muzak by Porcupine Tree I can sing easily.

That brings me onto my main musical love, guitar. Despite the fact that i've only been playing guitar for two years, I think I am fairly good at it. I'm happy with where i'm at, despite the fact that i'm not the fastest player. But I don't really want to play fast, I write things that are more relaxed, or have a groove that you can settle into easily, and I write things that don't require fast playing. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard, and imo it stacks up to a Gibson Les Paul Standard. I love it, it feels and sounds great. I guess the main sort of things I play are rock, mainly soft rock and progressive rock. I guess there's a bit of a difference there, but oh well. :p

I'm also in a band, and of course we do soft rock, but also a bit of straightforward rock, not too hard or soft, but we mainly write softer songs. But occasionally we like to write songs that are a little bit harder :p. We've got about 6 or 7 tracks written, and thanks to our school, we've got one of them recorded at a professional studio, and we should have it by the end of September. I'm looking forward to listening to it. :D

I played drums for almost a year, but I was never really into it. I think if I had practiced more and put some effort into it, I would have gotten better, and possibly enjoyed myself. But I quit. Me and my Faja were talking about him possibly giving me saxaphone lessons in the near fututre, so I might learn how to play sax.

I am the lead singer of my band. We pretty much just fuck around, but we're half decent. I don't really know how to play any instruments, but I can kind of play the drums. I was learning how to play the guitar when I was around 13 but my brother broke the guitar when he was 5. I won my school's talent show in 8th grade by singing Californication by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Other than that I don't have any musical stories.
