An NXT observation

Occasional Pre-Show
Now after just watching the NXT rookie 6-man tag match on RAW, a number of things that I have already foreseen have come to fruition.

1) Husky Harris as far as I'm concerned ids the poor man's Samoa Joe. The IWC rips on Joe heavily and even calls him fat, so what does that make Husky? Joe has a great arsenal of moves and the intense persona to boot, Husky to me is that watered down WWE version of Joe and I'm not buying in.

2) McGuillicutty needs a persona and a name change, first off let's be honest, McGuillicutty doesn't roll off the tongue, so lets go with Joe Hening at least something that sounds like the name of champion not a jobber. Also, this guy is the only tweener on the NXT roster, now that works when you're an established superstar but it sure as hell doesn't when the WWE universe is trying to decide whether or not to boo or cheer you. Make him a face during NXT and if he wins the competition turn him heel and cash in his title shot against a mid card champion.

3) Last but not least, when Kaval got the tag tonight he was by far the only one who got a pop from the crowd. Kaval is exciting and I have loved his worked since his days as Low-Ki and with a bit more charisma he could be a viable player in the mid card scene. The crowd loves his offense and I guarantee when those polls come in every week, he is #1 every time. If Kaval loses the show I believe it's due to that "pro vote" which really is who is backed by Vince.

What do you all think,

You stay classy San Diego

Well, i have watched the NXT show and i will give my points on this later, but first let me review what you wrote.
1) Husky Harris as far as I'm concerned ids the poor man's Samoa Joe.
i could agree there, Husky Harris is good, but he has been seen in Joe.

Well, first off, the name is MY only issue with this guy. He HAS a persona, he is a 3rd generation star who believes in himself and i like his mic work, he also has good in ring skills that could be great in the future. my only issue is his name and his finisher, but other than those, he's the one i think should win this. He's not a tweener on NXT, he's a face, BUT the NXT show doesnt have enough heels to make this a heel vs. face match.

I like Kaval, BUT i like McGuillicutty better, i hope he wins this show with Kaval and Riley being 2nd and 3rd with Harris 4th. Those 4 guys are the reason i am watching NXT, Cole makes you want to shut it off, but those 4 have talent. I think the 1st 3 will be future champions soon.

1. I could see the Husky Harris/Samoa Joe comparison, but I can see a comparison between Jake the Snake Roberts and Stone Cold Steve Austin, there's a comparison between Scott Hall and Carlito, hell WWE did a Wrestlemania angle based off a comparison of HBK and Chris Jericho, was one of the best WM in a long time... just because someone is similiar doesn't make them bad.

2. I (as everyone else) am also in agreement that Poopshoot McHammerdick (i may have botched that) needs a name change, but I think he NEEDS to be a heel. His persona doesn't work as a face, it's like Randy Orton's first face run.

3. As much as I hate it, Kaval can't win, although the WWE never acknowledges TNA, all TNA talent coming over gets buried. It's why Christian (sadly) will never win a (legit) world title. It sucks, but it does make TNA look bad when their top guy for three years can't get a win over Drew McIntyre, but anytime he wants Zack Ryder can head to Orlando and main-event PPV's

I think Joe Hennig, AKA Michael McGuillicutty, will turn heel AFTER NXT which is why i hope he wins. He can win the NXT show, then he can tell Kofi to get in the ring and thank him, then, turn on him and turn heel.

if this was last year's NXT i could agree that Kaval should win, but i like McGuillicutty and Riley too much. Both have potential to be GREAT heels.

First of all, FUCK SAN DIEGO!! LOL... Good thing this site isn't PG...

Anyway, I agree with you bro... Husky even uses some of the same moves as Joe... But, I think he is good enough in ring and what not, that if he finds a different gimmick, or the right gimmick, he could possibly get over... Who knows how high most of these guys can really go... But maybe Husky can hit a Hacksaw Jim Duggan Plateau. Which isn't the worst career ever. He could end up a fat Scott Norton... And that would kinda suck!!

I also agree with The MM name change... LOL I mean shit, I was afraid to even try to spell it!!! Good luck Efeders!! Hennig as the last name sooooo works for me... I think they could play off that and immediately find what is desperately needed, for this possible HUGE star in the making, A FUCKIN GIMMICK!!!! He could really develop as a Heel and eventually take a current Orton type of role! Dude really has talent... I think he is a name change away from utter greatness! IMO

Let's go 3 for 3 here in agreement... Kaval is a BEAST! I hope he can get over... If they think they can push Bourne, they should give this guy a shot. To me, I think he is much more entertaining than Bourne, but maybe that's just me...

I think this NXT idea was great! It has a way to "develop" guys in front of a crowd that is supposed to accept them. It puts young talent straight into the eye of the public and gives these guys a push, before a push... If you know what I mean...

Good thread dude...

So just because Husky is fat and quick,he's automatically Samoa Joe!? Fuck that! Husky and Joe are to completely different people from to completely different walks of life, and the simple fact that you just lump them both together based on a few similarities is the reason no one can get over these days. It's always about being "the next ____" or "a knockoff ______". Until you hear someone say "Husky's gonna kill you" or see him pull off a "Husky Buster" stfu about them being the same because they aren't. If you would wait for him to even develop a character you would see that they are two very different competitors.

To your next point,I agree about the name change, but I can already tell you what would have happened head they left him as Joe Hennig. "Oh he's nothing like his dad,oh his dad was way more over as Mr. Perfect". They're trying that crap with Ted Jr. and it's floundering miserably so I understand why they changed his name, the name is still awful tho...

amd Finally...Kaval is Kaval. He's a little guy,so there's obviously gonna be a glass ceiling there regardless of his time in TNA. It'll be alright, the world title is a storyline relic and means nothing to the success or failure of one's career. They don't wrestle for titles,or main event status. They wrestle to entertain you and me and to see us mark out when they wrestle is what keeps them going. You probably care more about the WHC than Christian does so there's that. If Christian can go out there, slap a guy a couple times hit his pendulum kick, then the Killswitch and get the crowd going, then he's happy. Stop getting all sour faced because he hasn't held that gaudy belt. If everybody was in the main event there would be no show.Oh yeah, about TNA stars getting buried,R-Truth is one of the most over wrestlers in recent WWE history...and that's the truth, the whole truth, and nothin but the truth! (See,I never even watched TNA and I'm an R-Truth fan)

I am sure that when he was a kid, Husky Harris was being trained by his dad, Mike Rotunda, or IRS, to be a Samoa Joe ripoff, even though Samoa Joe as a character didn't exist. Great logic there. Who cares if they do a few of the same moves. Kane, Undertaker and Big Show all do a chokeslam...are they ripoffs of each other, or are they all individual characters? (I concede a case could be made about Kane being a Taker wannabe, but its intentional, as a part of the character itself)

Yeah, because Husky Harris has shown he can go technical if need be and has being throwing kicks around like loose change. And last time i checked, Joe is an internet darling, with many a thread on these forums saying he should be the TNA champion or doing more than just floating around the mid-card. Just because Mark Madden says Joe is a fat slob doesn't mean the majority of the IWC do too.

Now that's what i'm talking about. Instead of people saying 'Kaval is the next Rey, Husky the next Joe, McGillicutty needs to become Joe Henning', the whole point of NXT is to become a breakout star in your own name. There is no point in having these guys go through a 13? week competition for you to just market them as 'Joe 2.0' or 'Mr Perfect Jr.' Why do you think DiBiase is stalling in the midcard? Because it just becomes increasingly clear he is recycling an old gimmick. At least Cody on SD! is breaking out and become his own (highly entertaining) man. Thats why i think The Nexus has worked so well. they were all individuals that may have taken aspects of other characters (that is inevitable) and then created this stable that is remarkably over. I don't look at Nexus and go '______ knock-off'; i see 7 men with their own little gimmicks working as one. If Nexus was stalled and was used for the season 2 rookies, would we see them as one big collective unit if it was full of Mysterio and Joe knock-offs?

1) So, being 6ft and fat makes anyone a Samoa Joe clone? Even if Husky has more charisma and personality in his grin than Joe has ever shown? Damn that senton thing they both do! Eh. It wouldn't surprise if Husky is liked backstage because he seems pretty respectful and nice. I wouldn't call someone crying over the announcement of time left for a match anything like that..

2) Perfect's kid is just like the Hart Dyntasy's treatment on the internet to me. Just because the penis you came out belonged to someone who was charismatic, successful and generally well liked doesn't automatically make YOU worth a damn. I know the guy is just starting out, but stop acting like he is the secondth coming of a god or something when the guy hasn't done shit that proves he is worth a damn.

3) I dunno about Kaval being the only one. It could be because he is more known in that area (?). Call me crazy, but Percy was getting the crowd going with that stomping he took. So, of course (unless you are a black hole for all things "interesting"), the crowd is going to respond to a hot tag.
