As a wrestling fan I have to say, I am becoming more and more disinterested with the current big promotions i.e WWE, TNA. I just want a promotion that focuses on wrestling. Good wrestling, chain wrestling, combo wrestling, like K1 Zero in Japan. At least I think that's what its called.
So after watching Samoa Joe take on Kurt Angle in the steel cage at Lockdown, I though to myself, why can't there be a promotion just like this in terms of style?
After a couple months of tweaking, I present to you my idea for a brand new, big time wrestling promotion: Championship Elite Wrestling.
Now, CEW would rely heavily on an MMA inspired ppv structure. The Heavyweight championship gets defended every other ppv, the ones in between decide the #1 contender. One shot is all you get. You win, your champ. You lose, you start over. Wins and losses count, and they affect your ranking. Thats right, a ranking.
Each weight class, Heavyweight, Light Heavyweight, Middleweight, and Lightweight, would have ranked wrestlers. Getting into the top 10 is what you want. Each class has title, getting defended every other month. As a special bonus, winning the Light Heavyweight title would allow you to surrender your title at any time for a shot at the title above you at the next ppv, in order to keep things fresh and the matches interesting.
The ring would be white with white ropes, all lights in the building would be off except for the ones on the ring. Stages would be elaborate and flashy like the old PRIDE sets, with every ppv match getting a good video package pre-fight.
Special events would include a Best of the Best tournament, very similar to KOTR, three brackets of 8 wrestlers ending a triple threat elimination match.
Also, the Submission Specialist Challenge, a 16 wrestler tournament where the matches can only be won by submission. Both events are not limited by weight class.
I just figured I'd let you guys look at this. Would you watch a promotion like this? What works, what doesn't?
