BEER MONEY
I was watching the some of the pro bowl last night an it made me realize just how bad these games are.Now i dont know bout the nhl but the nfl an the nba there games just flat out suck.I know its just a game thats for fun but come on i think there should be some sort of pride in winning it.I rember a few years ago when shaq wanted to be a point guard in the nba all star game.So what did they do they let him play point guard.I had enough of the game last night when i seen drew brees take an extra point kick an try an point it in an not one single person tried to stop it.Just wanted to hear all of your throughts on this.Do yall think they should just play the game for fun or try and win the game.

I say play to win, but what exactly would they be winning?? I don’t think playing for Home Field advantage in the Championships is a great idea. I think that should be reserved for the Team with the winning record, not the winning All-Star Team. Plus that wouldn’t work for the NFL anyway. I know the winners get a trophy and the best player of the game gets the MVP award, but it’s still trophies and awards for a game that doesn’t count for anything. Unless someone can think of a prize worth playing for, I’m afraid it’s always just going to be a Star Studded Exhibition game.

I understand that there is nothing but a trophy they are playin for.I just wish they would act like they wanna win an try an stop people. An king patrick i agree with u on the mlb all star game.the whole thing about now the game counts dont do much good when u have a guy from a last place team cost you home field in the world series.Maybe they could get rid of the games all together an just do the things they have the night before like the slam dunk and home run showcase.I know it would make it where alot of people would be able to play but hell it would be more fun to watch then guys just standing around not giving a damn how they look

The thing is, these guys are playing with ONE goal in mind. Not to get hurt. They have a much bigger incentive to take it easy and ensure that they stay healthy for the offseason/next training camp than they do making sure they win a meaningless exhibition game with nothing at stake. Their livelihoods are based on the games that matter, and if they were to tear an ACL or something playing in the Pro Bowl because they were actually exerting themselves, causing them to lose the entire next year, the owner of their team is going to be PISSED. Yeah, it means as fans, we get games that are really just a bunch of guys goofing off, but from their perspective, they are doing the only thing they can do to still play the game, but avoid any potential injuries.

In the case of the NHL and NBA, their seasons are only half over, it's not just about a potential injury leading into next year, but they have to worry about injuries leading into the next few days...No way that they are going to try their hardest to win those games. It's just not worth the risk.

I love the MLB aspect of winner getting home-field advantage. Certainly better in my opinion than having the leagues alternate home-field every year. But that's just me. Others don't like it, and it's understandable. Better record should get it. I can get behind that.

As far as the games themselves, outside the MLB the games are just offensive explosions. Ridiculous scores due to not wanting to get hurt by playing defense. It's understandable. The players are more important to teams now than they were back in the day. Baseball really is the only sport that you can play hard because there isn't much contact between players. Though I don't think it would kill Kobe to get in LeBron's face or something for a game.

The games are supposed to be fun. Attract the crowd that likes a lot of offense. It is what it is. The whole week/weekend of activities usually excite me more than the actual game. NBA/NHL Skills Competitions, MLB HR Derby along with the Futures Game and Celebrity Game. NFL sucks in this regard due to no skills competitions. But I live for the day where I can see a great all around game from the best of each sport. I know it will never happen because of the threat of injury, but hey I can dream.
