Alex Riley's Briefcase?

Now I know there has been much speculation as to why A-Rye is still carrying around a briefcase. Many of us have commented on it in other posts, but after some research I couldn't find a thread dedicated to this specific subject. So if there is I apologize because I couldn't find one. Anyway here's the question.

What do you guys think the purpose is behind him holding onto a briefcase? Is it just to remind us of how the Miz won the title? Is it just something for Riley to hold? Do you think there is something in there that will surprise us all later?

I turn the discussion to you. What do you guys think?

I think it is a contract for a WWE championship match as long as Miz is champion. That would be the most interesting way to carry it. Of course, if that happens either Miz or Riley will have to be face.

You know, I hadn't given it much thought until the other day but I came up with a fun idea (highly improbable but a fun idea nevertheless)...what if it turned out that somewhere along the line Alex Riley "switched" out Miz's MITB briefcase with a fake one, (due to jealousy or anger at being his lackey) which the Miz ultimately cashed in? It is finally revealed that Riley has been carrying around the REAL briefcase all this time, thus meaning the Miz never REALLY was champion at all after using the fake briefcase to win the belt and so he has to forfeit the title? Feud between Riley and Miz begins OR something else all together?? Just a thought but would make for interesting TV to be sure! What do you guys think?? Anyone else have any thoughts?

It was soon after Miz won the title that I heard the guys on Chair Shot Reality talk about the briefcase that Alex Riley carries to the ring. They didn't say why he carries it, but they did express that the announcers should mention it to the fans that didn't know why A-Rye still had it. I think they (the CSR guys) said that the announcers should mention that it is not the MitB contract briefcase, and explain the purpose for him carrying it (in case the fans had forgotten).

I remember thinking "yeah, what the hell IS in that briefcase?", but soon forgot (or stopped caring). To be honest, I don't know if there was ever anything to "forget"; I don't remember EVER hearing about why A-Rye had a briefcase (unless you count the MitB case that he used to carry for the Miz sometimes).

I must admit that I think about what's in that damn case every time I see A-Rye on Raw now, but not enough to really search around. Now I'm curious enough to email the guys at CSR about it, and ask them. Maybe they'll have an answer for us? ...if/when they get back to me, I'll post the answer here.

Btw: I really like your theory, synnamongirl77. It is a little far-fetched, and is probably not what's really going on, but it would make for an interesting feud for when the inevitable Miz/A-Rye split happens. Welcome to the forums, as well!

The episode of CSR is (kind of) coming back to me now...I seem to remember them saying that the case was just the (now empty) MitB briefcase. At least that's what the hazy memory is telling me, but that doesn't seem to make sense...considering that the MitB case was red (or orange, or whatever), and A-Rye's current case is just a basic metallic silver with no ornamental paint or other aesthetic attributes...isn't it?

A-Rye's current case reminds me of the briefcase from the end of the movie Twins (haha!). If I remember correctly, the case in that movie was filled with $5 million. Arnold also had a similar case that he traveled with in the movie, just for his clothes. Maybe A-Rye is planning on buying a Cadillac with a nuclear reactor in the trunk.

I hadn't given it much thought until now... But I do have a couple of theories...

1. In the ultimate stooge fashion, Riley could do what he's doing now and just carry the case around, serving as a constant reminder to the WWE Universe of Miz's climb to world champion status.

2. Since the contract in the case grants the holder of said case to a world championship match, Riley could keep the case for the first theory stated above for a given amount of time. After a while, they could tease a split between Riley and Miz with Miz constantly mistreating him. Riley could find some sort of loophole in the contract (like the contract not stating who specifically gets the title shot or something like that) and using it against Miz at a moment when tension between them is at it's highest or when Riley decides to exact his ultimate revenge for his mistreatment at the hands of Miz.

3. Riley just keeps the case around to provide another medium from which Miz can claim heel wins over other superstars

I like the idea of it being a contract for a title shot. However, I would like Alex Riley to develop into a sort of hit man type character. As we know, the Miz bought Riley's contract and he "technically" isn't a WWE employee, but an employee of the Miz.
This may be really far fetched, but what if the briefcase contains Riley's contract. He essentially sells it to the highest bidder. He does their bidding until a new buyer comes along. Perhaps the next "employer" could be the winner of the Rumble and could create a Riley, Miz feud.
This could be a long drawn out face turn for A-Ri and possibly a push for him to become a relevant figure in the WWE.

I doubt the case contains a championship contract still as the contract would have had to have been given to the GM or WWE board, filled out and filed away if we're keeping kayfabe. So Miz/Riley can keep that case but not the contract.

Also the case Riley has with him is NOT the MITB case, that one was red this one is silver. So he keeps it for the same reason Cornette had a tennis racket. It's a good weapon and safer to use for the Skull Crushing Finale than the WWE title belt is.

To be honest, this doesn't sound far fetched to me at all (at least it's the most logical and/or probable theory so far). This is actually ringing a bell, I think you might be absolutely right.

willdawg brings up a good point too, the case makes a great weapon.

Maybe it's to switch out this year's Money in the bank briefcase with the one they have and just get another tittle shot when the Miz eventually looses it. Sounds off but that's pretty heel-ish.

Didn't Alex Riley pull the WWE Championship out of the briefcase on one of the episodes of Raw or Smackdown? Could be mistaking but currently I think he just carries it around for looks or holding the belt in it. They really should explain why he has it.

For right now, it should just be a reminder of why Miz is champ until after Mania and then go with the breakup plan.

I thought about this when I first saw him with the briefcase a while ago.. I remember reading on Wrestlesone that the WWE has made a new wwe title and are have had it ready for some time now.. Its a far fetched idea, but baybe that's what's in the briefcase. If miz is gonna face cena at Wrestlemania 27, maybe he'll 'destroy' the belt that Cena brought to the Game 6 years ago and miz can debut this new belt.. Just a thought.

I love the idea that Miz would make Riley carry around his own personal services contract just as a reminder to the NXT runner-up. A way for the Miz to say "I own you."

Yes, I can say 99%, that in one episode, Riley opened the case to put the WWE Championchip in it. It's probably more of a simbolic thing...

I remember reading before that the briefcase is what Miz uses to carry the belt around in. Why A-Ri has to carry it to the ring I think is just so that they have that extra weapon they could use to win matches, or something else for A-Ri to get hit with so Miz can escape.

I have also noticed the breicarried t the ring. I really like some of you guy's scenarios. Personally though, I think y'all may be reading too much into the whole thing. I mean, I believe Riley simply carries it around to possibly be used as an "insurance policy" if and when The Miz gets in trouble in the ring, and needs a little "momentum changer".

This is not to say the WWE creative team may not take the breifcase angle in some "curveball" direction, but for now; it's just a weapon prop.

It is 100% the briefcase that holds the championship belt. Miz carries it around in that briefcase (rather, A.Riley carries it around) and Alex Riley did indeed open it in an episode of RAW to reveal the title.

The guys on CSR believed that it was just a prop for him to carry around.



My hope is that...with all the rumors that were around the net months ago about WWE changing the title...there would be a new title belt inside it. It was rumored also that it would be The Miz who changes the look.

Simple. Winning MITB is essentially like winning the IC title now. He's carrying it at a status item for the Miz. Just like carrying around Slammy awards.

I do kind of like the idea of the "Riley left the real contract for himself" story, but that would be ridiculously dumb. Yes it's a storyline, but storyline wise, the Ref didn't notice that he didn't actually use a real contract? The GM? No one noticed? I think it's a bit far fetched.

What if it contained a brand new version of the WWE title? I remember a few months ago when Miz first won the title there was talk about them re-inventing the belt. I'm really not buying into my own theory, so don't look too far into it. It's probably just him being a tool and carrying around a briefcase because he has nothing else to do.
