AI In The Big Apple?

NSL

Life's A Bitch, And Then You Mosh
The traveling circus known as AI may be heading to the city that never sleeps. We were all a little shocked that he signed with Memphis, and then were a lot less shocked when he walked out on the team. Now he's a free agent. The Knicks want to sign him. My first reaction? "That figures..."

My second reaction? "What the fuck are you thinking?! You're team is in the shitter as it is?!" The Knicks have so many problems, and the last thing they need is this guy creating more chemistry issues, and taking the ball out of the hands of the better players on the team.

Your thoughts?

TM - Feel free to add this to the NBA thread, I just figured it's big enough for it's own thread

This would be worse than the Grizzlies because the Knicks have a worse record and can't play defense to save their lives which is a trademark of D'Antoni's. He may start in New York as opposed to Memphis but it's a slim chance that the Knicks are going to the playoffs considering the make-up of that them. He would have been better served going to Charlotte where Larry Brown could hopefully get something out of AI but that's not happening for now.

I thought AI and Larry Brown hated each other? If I'm wrong, then you're right, and that's a better place for him. With Jordan being a higher-up, it could work to straighten him out a bit.

There's nothing good that can come out of Iverson in a Knicks uniform. He might actually be a worse acquisition than Marbury. He's me-first, and he's not even as good as he was 2 seasons ago. He's gone downhill fast. The Knicks need to worry about building their team around David Lee, before he leaves for a contender and wins a ring or two.

This man sure is drawing a lot of attention for himself, well past his prime. The man is a cancer, not a cure, and Memphis should fucking have known that. I was a bit of a Memphis fan, as they used to be in BC, but that was the last time I cared for them, after AI joined. Now the Knicks want some of it as well? A team that cannot play defense, and you want a guy who will just take away from that? This is a horrendous idea. If he ever plays more than a handful of games for them, I cant see him playing the fourth quarter of them.

Figures that a franchise as poorly run as the Knicks would think signing AI would be a good idea. AI is ten times worse than Marbury, and we all know how that ended up. Though to be fair to Marbury when he came to Boston last year midway through he was a real team player and kept his damned mouth shut (probably because he knew he was working for his next contract). AI knows someone somewhere is going to give him a contract, so he doesn't care about being a jackass.

Don't see the point of this for the Knicks though, except maybe to sell some more tickets. They sure as fuck aren't going to be competing for a title anytime soon.

Marbury was a crap move, but that was the previous regime. Donnie Walsh isn't stupid enough to do a move like that (and 10 more after it, killing the teams salary cap for 5 years). Donnie Walsh has done a great job, freeing up Salary Cap space for the 2010 season, which is his only goal. AI can be as big a jackass as he wants to be with the Knicks, as long as he is here for this 2009-2010 only. He would only be there for 1 reason...

The line about selling tickets is the only thing that matters.

The Knicks don't give a crap about this season, because:
  • They know they don't have the talent to win this year.
  • They don't have a first round pick, thanks to the Marbury Trade (thanks Isiah).
  • The team is being blown up after the year when the Knicks sign 1 or 2 superstar free agents.
Therefore, the only thing that matters for this season is selling tickets. The Knicks are not selling tickets right now because they have no star power (or anybody even remotely close to it). The Knicks can sell tickets with a bad team, if they got somebody that the fans would be willing to pay to see. Allen Iverson is just the guy they are looking for:
  • He is only around for this season, so he will not affect the 2010-2011 salary cap.
  • He's a superstar player (even if his ability has faded some).
  • He would instantly become (even at his age) the best player on the team, simply because there is no talent on this squad.
  • New York fans would pay to see Iverson play.
Getting Allen Iverson for the 2010-2011 Knicks would be an atrocious move. However, Iverson might just be The Answer for the Knicks box office THIS SEASON.

well according to ESPN and many other sources AI IS NOT going to be a Knick....... personally I think its the right choice because AI is THE definition of a BALL HOG! he's always had a shoot first mentality and it doesn't make the team any better. they need someone like a Carlos Boozer or a Steve Nash hell even a Chris Paul type who can distribute the ball as well as shoot the ball and make good shot selections.
