A character tweak?

Hem

Getting Noticed By Management
I was just sitting here and thinking about why I don't enjoy Alberto Del Rio anymore. I saw his performance at MITB and I remembered just how good he actually is.

He may not be the same character he was when he had Ricardo Rodriguez be hs personal assistant and drove up to the ramp in great cars.

This got me thinking, what would get me hooked in ADR and make view him as a legit contender to any title, I'm sire after the Draft he will at least challenge for the top title once.

Alberto Del Rio first gets back his wardrobe consisting of classy and elegant suits. He gets to drive to the ramp in a boss car every week. The new additions would be a girl or two would always be with him in his car and maybe he even gets a valet like Summer Rae or someone. The car is surrounded from all four sides by a posse or bodygaurds who ride out on motorcycles during his entrance. Post match his body guard escorts him back from the ring on a motorcycle and so on.

Thats just an idea I randomly had and can be for anyone really, especially the new Hollywood Miz. What do you guys think?

I don't mind the idea but it's wasted on a bum like Del Rio. He's going nowere, and never will. The promotion has moved on from him.

Alberto del Rio has consistently put in some of the best in ring work in the WWE. He can put a full four star match together (the reason we don't remember Christian/del Rio well is because it shared a card with Brock/Punk and Cena/Bryan), and the little things he does are just marvelous (smiling when he eliminated Dolph from the first ATGBR, yelling at JBL to sit down when a smarky "JBL" chant started). But as a character, he's never quite clicked. I'd blame creative, but the same has been true in Lucha Underground as well, in my opinion.

Your idea is decent, but I don't think WWE will be throwing a bunch of money at del Rio's entrance anytime soon.

Does anyone remember Tensai and Sakamoto? After losing, Tensai would beat down Sakamoto, but he would continue to keep him on as a manager. This failed as a heel tactic, because no one gave a shit about Sakamoto. I would tweak Alberto by bringing back Ricardo Rodriguez, and cannibalizing the above relationship. The audience cares for Ricardo, and if he stayed on with Alberto dispite constant beatings, I think that would be a solid creative choice.

Alberto's entire gimmick is just gone without Ricardo and the can, he doesn't act like a rich aristocratic better than you star anymore, his gimmick now, is literally just saying random words in Spanish and being a normal competitor.

They should go with a rags to riches story where he reveals he's lost his fortune and you get vignettes with him with like Golden Truth, trying to learn to live on the streets, and other things, Just something to give him a character, beyond being a wrestler that speaks Spanish right now.

As much as I liked his initial gimmick I will say that all is lost with him know. To be hounest I simply don't see what the WWE could do make him someone the fans care about. Yes he is incredible wrestler but he just fails to pull his gimmicks and thats shame cause he could have been someone big.

Del Rio is one of the best in-ring workers definitely. I'd agree w/the OP his character could use tweaking. Why not have the broadcasters hype his MMA background more? Or better, yet have a WWE Legend be his advisor. A Ted Dibiase or some other legend help rebuild the Mexican Aristocrat Del Rio.

Great idea but I don't think he's in as urgent need of a character reboot as much as someone like Roman Reigns. Del Rio is in great position to feud for/or even win one of the two world titles they'll have after the Draft and no one would really be mad or question it.

Meanwhile Roman Reigns has the type of heat to where you legitimately despise his presence in a program or even on your television screen. And it's not even the guy's fault, it's Creative's fault for making him virtually a Create-A-Wrestler.

Why not bring the Dos Caras Jr character into the WWE. He could technically be drafted to both shows, one Masked and one Unmasked.

Del Rio's problem is that he's just some guy who speaks Spanish. What's his character? Who cares? He's pretty good in the ring and can be a great heel, but who cares? When he had his fancy cars and own personal ring announcer, I cared about him. He needs to go back to being a Mexican Mexican aristocrat. Kind of how JBL was on Smackdown all those years. Or Ted DiBiase was years ago. He can also have his own bodyguard. Someone like Brodus Clay used to be. Maybe Baron Corbin actually. That gives Corbin something to do and makes Del Rio relevant and something other than that Spanish guy.

I think we can all agree Del Rio is good in the ring, but holy shit is the guy bland. I think he has literally said the same thing every week since he's been in the WWE. MY DESTINY, PERRO, *INSERT SPANISH HERE, I AM ALBERTO DEL RIOOOOO, done. Or, in the case of MITB, "I am the only one to win MITB and cash in the contract for the World Championship." Seriously, has he brought up one point other than this for the past month? If he did, I can't remember.

Guy is coasting, he has been ever since he won his first title. Mid-card is where he should stay, any higher would be ridiculous at this point.

That actually sounds really good. They could work it like HBK/ Y2J when Shawn became an assistant because he was broke.

Imagine Del Rio become a ring announcer, bag boy, driver, bell ringer etc to pick up some extra cash.

I wouldn't mind them bringing Ricardo back and they could faces, a tag team. Be like a modern day Los Guerreros.

I agree with bringing back Ricardo Rodriguez, but my idea is a little different.

I would keep the arrogant aristocrat character with the limos for ADR as a heel.

But then, I would have ADR pull double duty as a babyface Dos Caras and his sidekick, Ricardo.

Dos Caras could be like a Batman or Green Hornet type of character, and drive a decked out Mustang w/ a custom paint job like a Dos Caras mobile.

ADR's younger brother could dress up as Dos Caras in backstage vignettes to create the illusion that ADR and Dos Caras are two different people.

ADR could insult Dos Caras in interviews and buy people off w/ a Del Rio credit card. And then Dos Caras would make the charity appearances for the WWE w/ Ricardo by his side.

Setting up a sponsorship deal w/ a car company could also alleviate the cost of two special car entrances for a show that travels. Kind of like the WWE's new deal w/ TapOut or Ford's deal w/ Transformers.

Superhero gimmicks have worked before w/ Rosey and Hurricane Helms. But Stardust would be a recent example of cartoony gimmick wasting a talented wrestler.

I think the fans would buy into Dos Caras b/c ADR would be going back to his roots while Cody was doing something contrived from his brother.

Also, I say Dos Caras and not Dos Caras Jr. b/c he would be the 1st Dos Caras in the WWE. The precedent has been set w/ Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero all dropping the Jr. when they came to the WWE.

Pretty much this says it in a nutshell. Strong in the ring that's the end of it. With Ricardo he was fine because he caught your interest when he spoke. Plus the commentary team made a huge deal of whatever car he was arriving in. When it gets to the point that your star is being upstaged by a car, that's not a good thing.

The best part of his gimmick right now is the fact that Kevin Owens is having a field day with it. I'm sure that wasn't supposed to happen but it is. As long as that continues I'm fine with it.
