I'm sorry to have to do this, but ABBA were one of the 1st bands I really listened to. It may be pure unadulterated cheese, but I grew up listening to it so it holds a place in my heart.
Besides...how many of you can deny the appeal of Waterloo, Dancing Queen? They probably wont overhaul a band 40 seeds higher, but they get my vote

I am actually in the same boat here.
ABBA are pure grade A cheddar, but i can't help recognizing their achievements.
Money Money Money and Mamma Mia, are probabally better than most of the other stuff they have done, but put them against some better competition and i will sell them out quicker than a redneck can sell out a singing loser.

Oh no, Polley, you voted ABBA? And Matador, too?

Queensryche may have been the last bastion of progressive rock, along with Dream Theatre. Operation: Mindcrime to this day remains a fantastic work of musical art, and the song "Empire" is still one of the coolest anthems dealing with drug dealing and teen crime. Queensryche is a very politically minded band, and from day one their prog rock and heavy metals styles made them successful.

Hits such as "Queen of the Reich" (inspired them to change their name from "The Mob"), Take Hold of the Flame, Warning, etc. sparked their initial album to billboard success, but it was Operation: Mindcrime that launched them as superstars. The best concept album since Tommy or The Wall, it remains one of progressive metal's stalwarts and examples of success.

And of course, along with "Empire" came the great power ballad "Silent Lucidity" which truly details the vocal range of Geoff Tate (who looks like Jonathan Coachman when he wears a leather hat) and was Queensryche's biggest single hit to date. Mindcrime went platinum, Empire went platinum 3x.

If you have not yet heard 1997's hit "Sign of the Times" with the stuning use of flat notes and political intrigue, please take a moment to download it. Also, for any guy who's ever gone through a tough breakup, listen to "Another Rainy Night Without You." It's the song that convinced me to get back together with my girlfriend (along with Van Halen's "Right Now") who has since become the soon to be Mrs IC25.

I did. I'm proud of my love of the cheese that it is ABBA. I don't expect them to overhaul this band, but they deserve to put up a fight

Tried it.
Prefer the song Empire by Kasabian.
Queensryche don't suck, I just dont like them.

I have no idea why this even matters here, seeing as how the match is between Queensryche and ABBA, not Queensyrche and Kasbian

Queensryche don't suck, I just don't like them.

So because you don't like them that automatically means that the shitfest that is ABBA is better than them, please, Queensyrche owns ABBA in every way imaginable, they are the far superior band here, and IMO the fact that they got any votes at all is a fucking joke

But answer me this.

Have Queensryche ever had West End Show dedicated to their music?

Operation: Mindcrime would be a far better presentation than Mama Mia. FACT.

But Mindcrime isn't as acceptable to the mainstream as Mama Mia. There are too many people who fear metal and progressive rock, but are ok with popy cheese like ABBA. I totally accept the fact that ABBA is marketable because they are so soft and harmless, but Queensryche is 10x better musically.

Oh so true. Mama Mia is an amazing show I went and saw it once, and I really enjoyed it. But just because a certain band has a show made after them doesnt mean a damn thing. Queensryche is a legendary band. Abba is good too, I actually enjoy the majority of their stuff. To me though when your comparing Queensryche to Abba, Abba goes down in a plume of smoke. Queensryche gets my vote.
