This is so Unlucky for Roy Orbison or a Skinnier version of Dr. Octopus without the Arms. Anyway the Beatles wins this one so handily it is almost pointless to have this match up as it is easily the Beatles with the Classics of "I Want To Hold Your Hand", "Twist and Shout", "She Loves You", "Help!" and "Hello Goodbye" All Songs that are relatively similar to the style of Music that Roy Orbison put out which is superior in so many ways when created through those two musical geniuses Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

Poor Roy. Two reknowned songs won't carry him over the beatles here. The Beatles revolutionised music and are easily going over here. Musically, I don't like the Beatles as I feel they were a little weak at times. However, lyrically and vocally, there are few if any bands better...maybe Queen would be the only one I'd rate higher.

Beatles take it...but Roy Orbison deserves a vote because he was good and deserved a higher seeding than some others

The Beatles might have revolutionised music. But none of use were around to know about it. If people claim that The Beatles are their favorite band I call bullshit. The average age of this forum is probably from 15-25. None of use would chose to listen to The Beatles. It's something that we might discover. But it's more likely that it was our parents listening to them, or my guess, people like them because they're considered great and it's cool to like them. Just because a band is popular doesn't mean they're great. The Beatles popularity is down to the fact that they came up with a new sound, or were the first to use it to mass appeal. There are better bands around. If they get through it's on reputation alone.

I'd agree with that statement Jake. Musically I think the Beatles were mediocre and I don't have many songs by them on my iTunes simply because I don't rate them very highly musically. Lyrically, they are a good band, but the reason they are getting by easily is because of their reputation.
I mean, by themselves, Lennon and McCartney were nothing spectacular. Out of the frontmen to go so solo, Sting and Phil Collins made a better go of it IMO. But L&M together wrote well.
However, I refuse and will continue to vote for the Beatles if there is someone who in my opinion was better than them ignoring the hype that goes with the monster that is Lennon McCartney Harrison and Starr if they go up against a band that is genuinely talented in all 3 areas of the tournament

Think people are being harsh on the boys from Liverpool.

Yes, they may be old and I wasn't born when they had thier greatest hits.

But they changed music so much. Thier songs range from flowery, happy summer drinking songs, ie sat in a beer garden or a bbq) to the really pshycadelic stuff that sounds a bit strange now. But I still enjoy the Beatles msuic. Its the same with bands like Queen. You grew up listening to them due to your parents.

But its like saying Metallica are more influencial than Jimi Hendrix or Black Sabbath. If there was no Jimi, there probabl wouldnt be the wave after wave of guitar driven rock songs that he weaved up with his insane guitar playing.

I recently went to the new Cavern in Liverpool and it was a great night out. My mates were playing, even though it wasnt THE Cavern, it was still a special night that they still rave about months after. The Beatles tribute act was great, but what was even more special was the fact the crowd ranged from people in thier 50s, all the way down to me (22) and my younger friends(17). And what was even more special, the entire crowd was totally enthralled. Thats the power of the Beatles, I hope they go far in this tournament.

Voting for The Beatles is like voting for The Jazz Singer. What you've never heard of The Jazz Singer? Well it's the first talking movie. So it's the standard which all movies with dialogue have followed. What do you mean you've watched it and you think it's shit? That's not the point. It's one of the most important movies of all time, it's not relevant that it's not great. You should vote because of it's importance. But somebody would have got there eventually you say. I agree.
