I've said it before I'll say it again:

That being said what Galaxy brought was brilliant. It had the typical Mario magic, great controls, new bad guys, new power ups, a game that you say to yourself 'just one more level' and of course the triumphant return of Luigi! Makes this truly one of the greatest games EVER!

Super Mario Galaxy was named Game of the Year by IGN, GameSpot, Nintendo Power, GameTrailers, Edge, and Yahoo! Games and it is not hard to understand why.

Yeah Gold Silver brought us a bigger region and more pokemon with a bit more indepth of a story but it was teh same gameplay, the same visuals etc. Galaxy brought the fresh gameplay, fresh visuals and for once a rather indepth story for the Mario series. Plus Gold/Silver had Pokemon Red/Blue to work off...Galaxy had Sunshine

I agree with Lee on pretty much everything. Gold/Silver is great, but it was the same formula albeit in a different setting with more pokemon. Mario Galaxy tried some radically different things from gameplay to setting. The result was the best 3D Mario game ever made. Both made nice additions to their series, but Galaxy took more chances and truly delivered an unforgettable experience. That's something that I just can't say for Gold/Silver.

While I have only played Silver and have yet to try Galaxy (my Wii was ticky by the time it came out,) seeing how the only arguments were for Galaxy and nothing for G/S, I'm going to have to vote for Galaxy. I can't make my own reasoned judgment with only my own (limited) knowledge of Galaxy, versus the amount of time I played Silver (at least 3 playthroughs) and believe my decision was fair, so I just went to the peanut gallery.

Well as one who's own both Galaxy and Pokemon Gold specifically, I will be voting for the 2nd gen Pokemon game. As Lee and Sean already mentioned, Galaxy is a great, fresh addition to the Mario franchise. I do accept that Galaxy was more innovative and creative to its franchise than G/S was to it. However, nostalgia is coming into play in this as I spent a good chunk of 4th and 5th grade trying to catch them all. Childhood memories beat out recent memories in this match for me.
