3DS updates

Monday June 6th marks a momentous day for the 3DS owner, it seems we're getting the things we should have had at launch and the E-shop and 3DS Web browser is coming. If you're in the USA you need to update your 3DS through the system settings which I assume will be available from midnight, for the UK and the rest of Europe this will be available on the 7th which gives us something to play with before E3 starts at 5pm BST for us. So what do we know?

Web Browser

It won't do flash but it's not like Apple have had a problem with that. According to Nintendo's official press release “It has the capability to show 3D images on sites specifically designed to show 3D images. The browser can also be used during gameplay. Users can stop their Nintendo 3DS game and go to the browser by pressing the Home Button and then resume their game when they are finished browsing. People can also use the browser to download 3D pictures from the Internet or upload pictures they have taken with the Nintendo 3DS cameras.”

E-Shop

“The Nintendo eShop is a digital store for Nintendo 3DS owners that provides access to a wide variety of downloadable content, such as original 3D software, classic games that have been re-mastered in 3D called 3D Classics, Game Boy and Game Boy Color “Virtual Console” games in their original 2D glory, and an extensive library of Nintendo DSiWare™ games. Visitors can also view videogame trailers, screenshots and product information for games, including those available at retail locations.” Again this was taken from their press release with Super Mario Land, Alleyway, and the UK gets a game called “tennis” and the US gets “Radar Mission.”

Sounds nice doesn't it? I'd quite like a free game though, maybe another application. What about some more AR stuff? You got it!

ExciteBike 3D

“To celebrate the grand opening of Nintendo eShop, Nintendo is offering the NES™ game Excitebike™ re-mastered in 3D as a free download until July 7 for anyone who performs the system update.” So if you update within the first month you get Excitebikes, in 3D for free...Nice! There's also some rumours that the slider will also change the camera angle for the game. Either way this should be a good little bonus for us.

Pokédex 3D

According to the press release “Pokédex 3D allows you to unearth information about all of the new Pokémon featured in Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version – without having to own these titles. Pokédex 3D is the most detailed and comprehensive Pokédex so far within a video game and takes Pokémon into real life. Enjoy viewing images of your favourite Pokémon from all angles, in various poses and in cute animations, all in full 3D.” So there's an AR marker with the Pokédex and it looks pretty cool.
