3D Televisions

The Rob

Telling me I'm invincible..
Yesterday I finally made the jump to 3D, buying myself an 23 inch (sounds small but it's absolutely perfect for my current room and the flat I'm moving in to in September) LED Full HD 3D TV and a 3D Blu Ray player. I've wanted to make the jump for quite a long time, and saw the 3DTV I wanted before Christmas. Been saving up, sold some things like my old TV, my Wii and a Blu Ray player my family never used. Selling those took a sizeable chunk out of the price. It's all set up and it was absolutely worth the transition.

The 3D is sublime, and what's more, the TV I purchased, when combined with a 3D Blu Ray player, plays standard 2D Blu Rays in 3D. And when purchased with a powerful enough HDMI cable that produces 3D picture, you can play any computer game in 3D as well. Modern Warfare 3 in 3D is quite the sight to behold. I'm not sure whether this is just this TV's party-trick or whether it's a common thing among 3DTV's. The picture quality in 2D is still absolutely incredible. This is the TV if your interested at all:

Has anyone else got a 3DTV at home yet? If so, what do you make of it?

Have you watched porn on there yet I'm sure 3D jizz explosions are pretty mind boggling. Have you watched Montel yet his bald head would be cool to see in 3D. I would watch the episode of Happy Days where Fonzie jumped over the sharks because then Fonzie will jump into your living room. Also watch stuff on the religous network I'm sure they have some cool 3D explososions on that channel
Can you watch VHS tapes in 3D because when I watch Footloose I want to see Kevin Bacon danceing with me.

Your post =

Unfortunately this thread ain't in a spamming section, so therefore I shall respond in a somewhat intellectual way, unlike you. 3D Porn? I'm good thanks, I can actually go one better and have sex in real life, if you want I'll let you know what it's like since, judging from your post, it appears you spend a lot of time on your todd (see what I did there, ha bloody ha).

I really don't see the point your trying to make here, it's neither here nor there, and it ain't moving the thread forward. All I asked was whether anyone has and/or have had a 3D television in the past and you ask whether I can watch VHS tapes in 3D so you can watch Footloose. It's spelt "dancing" by the way, you can have that one for free. I'd actually like to have a decent conversation with someone who has one too, not a response like yours. Your post belongs somewhere else.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand... :)

Personally, I don't imagine I'm going to make the jump to 3D. There aren't any films I'd want to see in 3D and the additional cost to enable Sky 3D and/or purchase a 3D blu-ray and cable just doesn't seem worth it to me.

However, I work at an electrical retailer and while I wouldn't get a tv to view 3D, some of the very best tvs now will come with 3D enabling capabilities. A couple of the new Samsungs, LGs and Panasonics can upscale normal 2D feeds to 3D which is kinda cool, but isn't something that would make me buy a new set.

At some point in the future, I might consider it, but for now they are just too cost prohibitive. Only reason I would want one is to watch sports in 3D, and for the current price, 3DTVs just don't give me a compelling enough reason yet. Maybe after the glasses-less TVs come down in price. I will not buy one that requires the glasses.

Yeah I've got a 42'' Sharp 3DTV (Don't know the exact model). I got it mainly for 3d games as there aren't a lot of decent 3d movies out just yet. The only exception being Avatar.

But yeah There are some games which are fantastic in 3D Assassins Creed Revelations, COD Black Ops. Haven't played MW3 but i'm sure it would look great and I also want to get around to playing the Crysis games as I've heard they're excellent in 3D.

I'd recommend one but in saying that don't go out of your way to get one, if you see a cheaper tv which has just a good a picture without 3D, go that one cause at the moment there is just not enough 3d content.

This sentence made me snicker. Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for this "powerful enough HDMI cable"? The reason I ask is because I imagine you probably got swindled. I know a lot of sellers try to upsell on HDMI cables, sometimes trying to sell cables that are as much as $200 dollars.

How much did you pay for your HDMI cable?

The Rob, in case what Slyfox went over your head, let me simplify it for you:

As long as it's least a 1.3 category 2 "high speed" HDMI cable, (available online for about 10 bucks if you know where to go) it is fully capable of handling the extra bandwidth caused by 3D.

3D bit rates are ~6.75 Gbps, "high speed" HDMI cables can handle up to ~10.2 Gbps.

There is no such thing as a 3D HDMI cable. If you bought your HDMI cable at a retail store, you got fleeced. The markup on those things are ridiculous. Never, ever, ever buy an HDMI cable at a retail store. EVER.

The HDMI cable at the retail store that is selling for $65 and at the high end electronics boutique for $140 is identical in function and performance to the HDMI cable you can buy on Newegg for $10.

Slyfox Note: Or $3.50 or less from monoprice.com

The store I work at does sell some pricey 3D HDMIs, but the 1200 series does have a lifetime guarantee where if it breaks, Monster do replace it for free.

That's one of the strange things about working in a retail store at the moment; the price of some of the products is pretty hard to justify but how we as sales colleagues are judged is by selling items that have the greatest profit or good bundle deals. As has been said, online you can find a cable that will do the same job for sometimes just a fraction of the price, or in the case of a Microsoft Office alternative, free.

Although I wouldn't buy it for the 3D function, I had a good play around with a 55" Samsung 8000 with a customer today. One day... one day.

:lmao:

A $60 lifetime guarantee on a cable that costs $3.50? No thanks.

I plan on buying another Samsung TV in the near future, hopefully one with the voice and movement recognition. I can't decide if I want one this year, or wait until next year, when it will be undoubtedly so much better.

Plus, I don't want anything less than 60 inches. That's what I have now, so I see no reason to downsize.

My dad has a 65" Samsung in his den...I am insanely jealous. When I bought my 40" HDTV, I thought I was the shit, it was certainly big enough for my needs, especially in my 2nd story apartment. Just a beautiful TV. And then 3 weeks later, my dad goes to Costco and buys his, which put mine to shame, and emasculating me in the process.

FUCK YOU DAD. It's mine when you die, along with that Corvette you won't let me drive!
***end fake outrage***

Shit, I'd be chuffed even with a simple jump to a 40" set from my 32". Space is a bit of an issue though, though a near borderless 40" Samsung would probably be the same size as my 32" Sony.

Picture wise, Samsung do seem to have the most consistent result, not so sure about their longevity though. A guy I sold a 55" set to had it for all of 2 months before it broke down, and had been offshore for 5 weeks too.
