Now, before I even get started on this thread, I would very much like to say that I simply adore the work that Jim Ross did for the WWE in the many years that he was an announcer for them. He simply was the voice of the WWE Attitude Era and the voice that first welcomed me to the new world of WWE. However, those people out there who are dying for Jim Ross to get back behind the Raw commentary desk again (myself included) are in for a big surprise when I say that Jim Ross will never hold that position again and for good reason.
1. Jim Ross is not as manoeuvrable as Michael Cole.
It is true! Look at what Michael Cole has done since being given the opportunity on Raw. He is now the most hated commentator on all of the shows and with good reason. His feud with Daniel Bryan and his constant creaming over The Miz have us all in a flurry every Monday and Tuesday night. Last week, he walked off of NXT and although it will likely lead to something down the line, it just adds to the character of Michael Cole.
Jim Ross, for all his talent, simply could not get over a s a heel any more. He has been out of the game for far too long now and the people would love to see him back behind the desk, regardless of what he saying. Michael Cole can portray that heel character and thus has the advantage over JR.
2. As a talent scout for the WWE, Jim Ross does a more important job.
Now, I know that welcoming the viewers to Monday Night Raw or Smackdown might be a very important job but lest we forget that Jim Ross is one of the men who is looking after the future of the WWE. His job is to indentify the likes of the new Randy Orton or John Cena that could take the WWE into an even newer generation. Who knows how many great stars Jim Ross has uncovered in his time as a talent scout for the WWE. He obviously does the job very well or he would no longer be employed to do it.
3. His health is the most important factor!
Now, I dont know how much travelling or stress is involved in his new role but I am willing to wager that it will not put more stress on JR than travelling to different continents every month. I am willing to bet that he is living a more comfortable life with less travelling and that is the most important factor of all.
No one wants to see Jim Ross take another palsy attack and have it finish him off. No, we would rather see him working for the company that has made his name. We would rather see him fit and healthy, even if it means sacrificing our listening pleasure for the sake of it. Are we so selfish that we would take this from him? I doubt it.
