2013's Best And Most Overrated Movies

Yeah, American Hustle is painfully overrated, but Dallas Buyers Club is really good. Them performances, bro.

Also, 12 Years a Slave is overrated. Any movie that needs to bring in Brad Pitt to patronisingly spoon-feed you your morals doesn't deserve the reception that it's gotten. Even if Fassbender gave the best non-DiCaprio performance of the year.

What was Brad Pitt even doing there?

12 Years a Slave could've done with some mandingo fights to liven it up a bit.

I'm going to skip over 3, 4, and 5 for now. Everyone and their mom has chimed in on 12 Years a Slave and Gravity so I probably won't even comment on these in my non-spam compendium. Since Nebraska has the misfortune of being sandwiched between these two, I'll make sure to comment on it at a later time.

6) The Wolf of Wall Street: I loved this movie because it was essentially an equally funny and much more debauched version of Boiler Room, an all-time personal favorite. Its nowhere near as exceptional as its Oscar nominations would lead you to believe, but it's still the most entertaining film I saw all year.

7) Blue Jasmine: Like There Will Be Blood, Blue Jasmine's greatness derives wholly from one of the best performances ever committed to film. Cate Blanchett turns an otherwise typical Woody Allen protagonist into the most complex, contemptible, and sympathetic character that he has yet written. As far as I'm concerned, Blue Jasmine proves that Cate Blanchett is the second greatest actress working today.

8) The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smaug: In all honesty, I wasn't a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. While The Fellowship of the Ring was superb, it ended poorly and the remaining two portions of the LOTR trilogy just never lived up to the marvel and awe I initially felt (The Two Towers was boring as shit and The Return of the King went on too long). The second part of The Hobbit riveted me to my seat just like The Fellowship of the Ring. It was action-packed, expertly paced, and ended on a perfect, extremely suspenseful note. I couldn't ask for a better popcorn flick.

I realise this has nothing to do with this thread but it is too cool to not share. What is also decent about it, is that I saw it on Facebook shared by a Stanley Kubrick page. Double whammy of brilliance.
