20 minutes to see a movie... What do?

The 1-2-3 Killam

I'm thinking about biking over to the theater and catching a late night movie. I started doing this recently, and it's been awesome because the theaters are almost completely empty and I get to sit wherever I want and not be bugged by stupid movie-goers.

I've got about 20 minutes to leave and make it there in time. I just saw ParaNorman on Friday, any ideas for what's good?

Expendables 2
Bourne Legacy
The Campaign
Odd Life of Timothy Green
Hope Springs
Total Recall
Ice Age 4
Ruby Sparks
Julayi

Anybody? I've already heard Recall was pretty much total shit.

Expendables 2 and The Campaign were the first two the caught my eye and probably the only two I'd consider seeing in theatres. I heard Expendables is pretty good if you love action movies and just got lost in the action. Haven't heard anything regarding The Campaign though.

So I didn't end up seeing a movie. Couldn't find my jacket, and it's chilly enough that I didn't want to bike 3 miles and freeze my balls off.

Anyways, thought I'd stay in tonight and work on a website/blog/thingy I've been brainstorming about for a few months. Just one more small step in my quest to emulate KB...

Julayi, though I don't think I've heard of it, sounds interesting just from the title. I'm presuming it's a Bollywood film? Those are always entertaining....

I Wiki'd it...looks pretty bad. And yes, your assumptions were correct. Even if you can get past it being THREE HOURS LONG, nothing about the plot or the poster tells me I want to watch it.

I was worried you were gonna say you like Bewitched. I can put aside the fact that you write for a dirt sheet but if you would have liked that abortion of a film I would have stopped supporting you Killam

Anchorman. I liked Step Brothers. Elf. Stranger Than Fiction.

Cross out Step Brothers and replace with The Other Guys and you have (off the top of my head) my list of movies I like containing Will Ferrell.

Oh and Zoolander, that was fabulous.

Oh yeah! I forgot that Farrell was in Zoolander.

I don't think it's fair to base off of Wiki, really. Then again, I base what movies I go to see off of Brad "Cinema Snob" Jones' midnight screening reviews.

I can agree, however, that a 3 hour movie can be tedious, without a good plot. On the other hand, though, some of the best movies of all times were well over 2.5 or 3 hours....

And that's completely fair. The movie might be fantastic, and if I actually find somebody who has seen it, whose opinion I trust, maybe at some point I will too. But, it's the old "Save the Cat" situation. I've got $10 and a few hours of my life. All I have to go on is any prior knowledge of the actors/directors/writers involved, the name of the movie, the poster and MAYBE a commercial I've seen for it (in this case, substitute looking up the general plot on Wiki). Do I go see this movie, that's 3 hours long that I know nothing about and, from first glance doesn't look like it'd be interesting? Or do I spend my money on the more safe approach, and see something like the new Bourne movie, where even if I know nothing of the new plot (I do) I can pretty much guarantee I'll have a decent time?

**Save the Cat is/was a really popular book on screenplay writing. It's all about making money off your scripts, and understanding that you're going to sell to people who only get to see the few things I listed above.

I really, really dislike redneck culture. To the point that it upset me. Even movies making fun of redneck culture display too much redneck culture for me to comfortably sit through.
