Not close. One of the greatest movies of all time here, versus a meh movie. I don't know about you, but Clockwork Orange was never on my radar as a great movie. That said, Star Wars is one of the greatest movies ever. It will put up huge fights throughout the 70s and has a great shot of making it to the third round. It has amazing special effects, amazing storyline, and has spawned off half a dozen more movies, series, and made billions in merchendise sales. Star Wars is the winner here.

This shouldn't be close at all, but Kubrick has his followers. People talk about blind loyalty to Star Wars and it's franchise of movies, but I feel that the same thing can be said about the blind loyalty to Stanley Kubrick.

A Clockwork Orange is a great flick, and it doesn't deserve to be classified with the likes of over rated kubrick films, but it doesn't match up at all to the epicness that was Star Wars. Say what you will, oh it's the same old Mythological boy comes into manhood story. You know what, it sure is, but George Lucas made billions off of it, and spun it into a new type of story that resonated with many. Star Wars wins in a cakewalk.

The other day once these matches got set, I was talking to a friend of mine about this tournament, and asked him what he thought about some of these matchups. When we got to this one, his reply was simple: Dude, its Star Wars. That sums up this whole thing. THink of the most amazing scene in Clockwork Orange. Think of the villian. Now think of the Death Star exploding and Darth Vader. You don't top that, period. Lucas and Kubrick are both gods as directors, but there's a reason why Lucas is the richest man in the history of Hollywood, and you're looking at it.

Both are great. But I think in the grand scheme of things Star Wars doesn't have very strong acting or a polished script (in regards to dialogue, not story. The story is untouchable), while I can't think of one element that wasn't excellent in Clockwork.

Star Wars is only as popular as it is because it got there first and has cool characters. A Clockwork Orange is popular because it's great. What if a big screen version of Flash Gordon had come out around the same time? Would people have gone to see the popular sci-fi character, or the new film?
