Who's left that John Cena needs to beat????

Mid-Card Championship Winner
John Cena has faced plenty of big names over his illustrious career. He's beaten them before, after and while they were champions. In fact, every single World Champion that John Cena has faced off against has fallen to the Champ. Sure, Cena has lost plenty of matches too, but at the end of the day, he's beaten those guys at least once.

Now, there are also 11 Champions who have been with WWE at the same time as John Cena, but for some reason, they were never booked against each other. Those are: Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Goldberg, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, Justin Credible, Ezekiel Jackson & Matt Hardy. John got to pin Foley in a 5-way-match though, but I'm only counting singles victories here.

There's one man that doesn't appear on any of those lists. And that's the one guy who's been able to escape a singles loss to John Cena.:
christianwwe.jpg

Cena has beaten him in 3-ways and tag team matches, but Cena has never been able to beat him 1-on-1. The only time they faced off, it ended in a No Contest due to some shenanigans with Alberto and Punk at ringside. That means that when Christian officially retires, he'll be the only World Champion in WWE history to have faced off against John Cena and not lose. That's a pretty big deal all things considered.

So to answer the question from the title: Who's left? Well, anyone who debuts on Raw for the first time is automatically a new opponent for Cena. So I guess we can get excited for some match-ups with Bo Dallas and Adam Rose, but those matches won't be "big" unless these guys get some notoriety first. We already know that the only World Champion Cena hasn't beaten is Christian, but there are also other decorated champions that have yet to lose to John Cena.

Here's a list of every MitB/Tag/IC/US/CW champ that John has beaten in 1-on-1 bouts:

Of course, there have been plenty of guys who have avoided squaring off against John Cena. It's a pretty sizable list, but here are the ones that were on the roster as the same time with John Cena, but disappeared without ever facing off: Animal, Bubba Ray, Bull Buchanan, Charlie Haas, Chuck Palumbo, Curt Hawkins, Danny Basham, David Hart Smith, Deuce, Domino, Doug Basham, Drew McIntyre, Eugene, Evan Bourne, Gregory Helms, Heidenreich, Jamie Noble, Joey Mercury, Johnny, Juventud, Kid Kash, Lance Storm, Micky, Mitch, Montel Vontavious Porter, Paul London, Road Dogg, Rob Conway, Rosey, Scotty 2 Hotty, Sylvain Greneir, Tajiri, Trevor Murdoch, Val Venis & Vladimir Kozlov.

With them out of the way, now it's time to focus on the guys that are left for John Cena to beat. The decorated champions that are still on the main roster and have yet to lose to John Cena: Big E, Dean Ambrose, Diego, Fernando, Goldust, Hornswoggle, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Kofi Kingston, Roman Reigns, Tyson Kidd & William Regal.

You might have noticed that there's one guy who hasn't been mentioned...
michael-mcgillicutty-pictures-10.jpg

That's because Curtis Axel is undefeated 2-0 against John Cena!! Cena has beaten him in handicap matches and tag matches, but when it comes to 1-on-1, Curtis Axel has beaten John via DQ and Count Out, making him the only guy on the main roster to have baten John Cena and never lost!

That distinction is only shared by two other guys: Billy Gunn and D-Von Dudley. All 3 will be able to boast about how they've beaten John 1-on-1 and never gave their heat back.

So while we can all picture Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose as possible milestones for John to take down, I think it's Curtis Axel and Christian who John should be setting his sights on.

I Fresh matchups against Sin Cara, Fandango and Rusev are fine, but they're not going to improve Cena's personal record. Once he beats Axel and Christian, he would have beaten anybody who is anybody in WWE.

Side-note: Although a pinfall/submission victory over Sheamus would also be nice, considering both his wins have been via DQ.

These lists are absolutely incredible :D mad rep for you for doing this.

Anyway, I'm assuming this isn't too serious of a post. Granted it'd be nice to brag about it xD

It's a semi-serious post. :icon_cool: Someone made a Brock "kill list" and talked about how impressive it was, and I just couldn't help but think that Cena had beaten all of those guys and then some. So I did some research and put these lists together. He's beaten every guy he's ever faced, except D-Von, Axel, Christian & Billy Gunn. Which means he has very little to do in WWE.

So aside from Christian and Axel, every time he gets in the ring for a "rematch", he's getting in the ring with someone he's already beaten. That makes things a little dull.

It's always better when there are just some guys someone "can't beat". Ziggler hasn't ever beaten Bray Wyatt, so whenever I see them face off again, I'll be excited to see it happen.

But you'll never get that with Cena. He only loses to people who he's already beaten or someone who puts him over immediately afterwards.

EDIT: Also, you can mentally add "• July 28 – Raw" under Cesaro over there.

I do think their should be some people he can't beat but I think that would be against WWE's logic of making him the best. You'd never ever hear Cole saying that Cena has never beaten Axel or Christian, granted I would be super excited to see Cena v Axel and watch Cena lose xD

Granted this list doesn't prove much, you figure he's been in the company for what 12 years now? Been the face of the company for about 8-10 years now so obviously he's gonna have battled a lot of guys.

I seriously love the effort with this though, I would've repped you but WrestleZone won't let me -.- something about giving you too much rep recently I guess

Cena hasn't beaten Axel or Christian...but everyone else has. Christian is probably going to retire sooner than later due to becoming injury prone, but last we saw of him, he was jobbing hard to Sheamus.

Axel is treated as a lesser half of Ryback, usually being the one to get eliminated first in Battle Royals, the one to get pinned in their tag team matches and I don't think I've seen him win a solo victory since I got back into wrestling last November.

Rusev is another opponent for Cena though, who will likely crush his undefeated streak.

nice research Mr NegativeFeedback that must have taken you hours 

I'd like to see him taken on the greats such as Stone Cold, Flair, Hogan and sting but I doubt none of them would ever happen.

I have zero interest in Christian. I have never rated him and understand completely why Vince doesn't rate him either.

I think at this stage in the game Cena needs to be feuding with the top talent on the roster, not mid card guys.

When Cena is finished with Lesnar, Rusev who is drawing massive heat will probably go into a programme with him. There is also Roman Reigns who will enter a feud with Cena at some point. I would have no issues with Sheamus turning heel and having a feud with Cena.

Christian isnt needed and nobody recognises he hasn't being beaten by Cena. Nice research though.

John has beaten Christian, this one is by disqualification. I think that is hilarious that this makes Curtis Axel the sole Cena survivor.... though I'm sure that'll change at some point. Either way, like everyone else said, definite kudos on putting in all that research.

Wow! I read in a source that the match had ended in a No Contest, but I guess the source was wrong. I just checked WWE.com's official results and John Cena beat Christian via DQ in the only match they've ever had. You're completely right!

That means Curtis Axel is the sole Cena survivor on the main roster. But he isn't the sole survivor ever. Both Billy Gunn and D-Von Dudley are undefeated against Cena and I doubt Cena will ever have a chance to fix that.

The thing is, in wrestling, nobody, not even the WWE, has any memory.

Just in the lead-up to Brock vs. Taker at Wrestlemania, JBL (the worst color man I've heard) said multipe times something to the tune of "Taker has never been in the ring with someone like Brock Lesnar"... well, the problem is, he had, multiple times, 7-8 years earlier.

There's no value in history for the WWE. However, there are more obvious examples than others.

Here, we have Cena talking about being a marked man and facing an unbeatable Brock Lesnar at Summer Slam. The problem is, Cena beat Brock at Extreme Rules over a year ago.

No mention by Cena of "I beat him while he was still fresh off a comeback".. we're supposed to legimately buy that Cena is the underdog even though he won the last match between the two.

It proves a few things.

A. The Extreme Rules decision to put Cena over Lesnar was not the right move.

B. WWE writing isn't much better than WCW's was when it was crashing. The only difference is, there's no competition for WWE to be defeated by.

Ah, the luxuries of a monopoly..

Sting. WWE needs to put Cena over Sting, preferably over the course of a few PPV shows at the end of the year when not much else interesting is happening before the Rumble. Cena needs that last rub to really put over how much of a legend he is, and some has been from WCW/TNA is the best chump to do the job. After that, they can job out Borden to Lesnar come WM and then cut him loose.

These stats are amazing but kind of sad. I also got another interesting match that may come to past, a heel Big E vs. Cena. We all know the feud with Rusev is coming.

Being as you have all these stats..why not make a Cena win loss ratio? You could do PPV's or Raws and both? People complain that he doesn't lose, maybe a ratio could be used to dispel(or prove) the theory?

If I recall correctly, Cena has never beaten the Undertaker either, at least on PPV. Granted, they only crossed paths back in 2003 when Cena was still new. I don't remember Cena beating Kurt Angle either and Brock beat Cena at least 2 times in 2002-2003 and has only lost to him once in 2012. Cena did face Scott Steiner once, at a non-televised, live event back in 2002 during which Cena suffered from food poisoning and crapped his pants towards the end of the match which Cena himself has admitted to be the most embarrassing moment of his career. Scott Steiner cut a promo on Impact! once that he has beaten Cena so I'm assuming Scott won this match since that was the time when Scott came back to the WWE before feuding with Hunter for the WHC.

I once did this around 2012, but I've lost the data. I don't feel like doing it again. I remember Kane vs. John Cena at Elimination Chamber was Cena's 100th PPV match though. I also remember Cena had lost about 40 of those matches, very few clean.

According to the Internet Wrestling Database his current win loss record looks like this

Wins Draw Loss

453 (68.53%) 47 (7.11%) 161 (24.36%)

House shows aren't included in this. This is strictly television and pay per view.

That's incredible xD I just looked at the site and it is madness, I had no idea such a site even existed! :D Looking at Cena stats and apparently his highest rated match was the match against Punk at MitB 2011 xP another neat stat Cena has only tapped out 5 times according to them >< I'm just gonna leave a link because this site is really cool

John Cena actually has two victories over Undertaker. There was another match where Albert interfered and then John Cena used the FU to pin Undertaker. I always liked that match more than the FBI interference one. John Cena also beat Kurt Angle in 2005.

Anyway, I don't think John Cena ever beat Orlando Jordan. I remember Orlando Jordan beating John Cena for the US Championship, but I've never seen Cena beat Jordan. I might be wrong on this though and I might have missed any other matches they've had.

There's really no one left for Cena to beat at this point. Unless Roman Reigns becomes a World Champion, I don't think anyone has the star power that many of the opponents that John Cena has faced have. This guy was able to beat past major stars and current major stars. No one else can say the same right now, except Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho.

I listed two matches where Cena beat Orlando Jordan. One of them was a Champion vs. Champion match on Smackdown when Cena was WWE Champ and Jordan as US Champ.

Well there is literally only one guy who Cena lost to and has never beat in any form.

Kevin Federline.

Wins and losses aren't as important. He doesn't need to "beat" anyone. However, there are a bunch of guys who can get elevated by being in a program with him. Wyatt lost but got elevated. This is because when you're in a match with Cena, more eyeballs are on you. You get to show people your skills and character, they get to know you.

I really disagree with the idea that Wyatt got elevated by jobbing to Cena. He's now feuding with Chris Jericho, who's whole job description has been "have matches with guys we don't care about after their push is over".

Who exactly was Wyatt supposed to move on to after his feud with Cena? The title picture is basically locked up until after Mania next year. People on these boards act like Jericho is a big deal so it seems like a feud with him would be a step up in their eyes. Yet it's had the opposite effect because God forbid people look at the Cena / Wyatt feud for what it was... Bray Wyatt's first high profile feud. And Cena beat D-von so I guess we're down to Curtis Axle and Billy Gunn.
