The Fart Bomber

As a Brit reading this story I have to say I'm shocked at the overwhelming support every poster bar the OP is giving to the authorities. Does it not worry you how scared and paranoid American citizens seem to be about terrorism?

Your government and media have done a fantastic job of scaring you all silly about this perceived terrorist threat, and how anything that could even in the smallest sense be construed as such must be dealt with as if Bin Laden himself had risen from the grave is laughable. The fact that you are more likely to be killed by a bee sting than a terrorist must mean 11 agencies are called out to deal with a bee in the classroom no?

This has been completely blown out of all proportion. Never would this total lack of common sense have happened over here, and we had the IRA legitimately bombing us for 30 years!

Not to say that the government and media in the UK don't try and brainwash the public about terrorism. I just think we are more inclined to mistrust them here than you do in the USA.

Oh so it is wrong to overreact to a bomb threat? If evacuating a school and sending in the authorities to make sure our schools are bomb-free is called being scared or paranoid than by all means, at least we are alive.

You are about 11 years late to this party, bro. Since September 11, Americans are not as scared as we used to be about terrorism, but that is a completely different story all together. I'd rather be safe than sorry. If you were given a hint their was a bomb in your home would you not evacuate your family and your love ones? [/quote]

The fact that you are more likely to be killed by a bee sting than a terrorist must mean 11 agencies are called out to deal with a bee in the classroom no?

Are we really comparing a bomb to a Bee? Really? A third grader can handle a Bee. I don't think little Jimmy can defuse a I.E.D.

This has been completely blown out of all proportion. Never would this total lack of common sense have happened over here, and we had the IRA legitimately bombing us for 30 years!

And I bet those of the IRA have been dealt with by legal means and the government has been doing everything they can to prevent said bombings. Just because bombings are more current in the U.K compared to the U.S doesn't mean we don't have a right to take every step to ensure we are safe when we do have a bomb threat?

Not to say that the government and media in the UK don't try and brainwash the public about terrorism. I just think we are more inclined to mistrust them here than you do in the USA.

This story wasn't blown out of proportion, the locals did everything by the book to ensure a school full of kids and teachers weren't going to be blown up by some stupid teenager. If there was a bomb threat at your school or work would you simply shrug it off like it was nothing? Get a grip.

The media

It was still even more unnecessary to have eleven government agencies I experienced a real bomb threat that someone called in when I was in high school and cops were the only people who showed up. I think you need a sense of humor too. Terrorism is a big myth our government always tries to exploit something out of proportion today everyone is a terrorist. Terrorism is the boogeyman of this generation

If you actually think that this so called terrorist deserves to be locked up Do you think they should bring him to Guantanamo Bay since he is such a terrorist?

What about the lady I mentioned before who was boarding a plane with her husband and small daughter. The mother had a cupcake for her daughter that was given to the mother by one of her kindergarten students. The people at the airport thought her cupcake was a security risk and took it away from her. I bet that person really just missed out on lunch and wanted the cupcake

Do you think that she had a real cupcake or was it a cupcake bomb that she planning on blowing up the plane with?

Oh so it is wrong to overreact to a bomb threat? If evacuating a school and sending in the authorities to make sure our schools are bomb-free is called being scared or paranoid than by all means, at least we are alive.

Except it wasn't a bomb threat it was a 19 year old college student writing on a piece of toilet paper about farting but using the phrase bomb instead.

I'd rather be safe than sorry. If you were given a hint their was a bomb in your home would you not evacuate your family and your love ones?

I take it you mean more scared after September 11th? If I had a hint a bomb was in my home of course I would evacuate my family, but if I found a piece of toilet paper with "I just dropped a bomb" written on it my common sense would come to the fore.

Are we really comparing a bomb to a Bee? Really? A third grader can handle a Bee. I don't think little Jimmy can defuse a I.E.D.

Seeing as more Americans are killed by bee stings than terrorist bombings yes I am comparing them. Oh and I love the way you won't give a proper answer to this point. Please also enlighten me on the amount of I.E.D's that have been found in US elementary schools?

And I bet those of the IRA have been dealt with by legal means and the government has been doing everything they can to prevent said bombings. Just because bombings are more current in the U.K compared to the U.S doesn't mean we don't have a right to take every step to ensure we are safe when we do have a bomb threat?

Actually we dealt with the IRA about 14 years ago by entering peace talks with them and resolving our issues diplomatically. Which is something the west could think about doing instead of just antagonising more terror attacks from the middle east.

This story wasn't blown out of proportion, the locals did everything by the book to ensure a school full of kids and teachers weren't going to be blown up by some stupid teenager. If there was a bomb threat at your school or work would you simply shrug it off like it was nothing? Get a grip.

I love this comment. You tell me to get a grip when you're getting your knickers in a twist about somebody bragging about a fart on a piece of bog roll!! and to answer the same question again, if there was a bomb threat in my vicinity of course I would take the necessary precautions. But this was not a bomb threat.

Except it wasn't a bomb threat it was a 19 year old college student writing on a piece of toilet paper about farting but using the phrase bomb instead.

It wasn't clear it was a fart joke. According to the link provided the note said. "I passed a bomb." Now that can be any number of things. If it was a bomb threat, and the teacher didn't report it. She could have died among thousands of others. I don't see how you don't get that.

I take it you mean more scared after September 11th? If I had a hint a bomb was in my home of course I would evacuate my family, but if I found a piece of toilet paper with "I just dropped a bomb" written on it my common sense would come to the fore.

So what you're telling me the message doesn't matter but what kind of paper it was on is all that matters? Gee, that makes a whole lot of sense. I bet you write all your jokes on toilet paper?

I did give a proper answer. You're just to stubborn to realize how stupid your original point was. A teacher can handle an issue like a bee. A bee doesn't have the potential to kill thousands of students. Nor does it have the motive, to go out and kill thousands of people. A Bee's purpose in life is being a bee, and doing bee things. A bomb's purpose is to explode. Which one would you take more seriously?

Actually we dealt with the IRA about 14 years ago by entering peace talks with them and resolving our issues diplomatically. Which is something the west could think about doing instead of just antagonising more terror attacks from the middle east.

If I remember right, the IRA had their reasons for what they did. I am not going to condole or explain their actions. Nor should you do the same for the enemies of my country. America may not be the shining example of do gooders. But neither was England back in the day.

Does the word, "bomb" not set off any red flags inside a school? The thing is you seem to think that just because their was no bomb, it is not a big deal. But if I sitting in that school, and it was my friend who wrote that note, I would have told my friend that he was an idiot for writing that note in the first place. The issue isn't with humorless teachers or strict and paranoid societies. The issue remains with the kid who got himself arrested because he didn't take 3 seconds to think about what he was doing before he unintentionally riled up his entire school.

How many instances in history has a bomber written "I passed a bomb" on a piece of toilet paper then carried out a bombing?

So what you're telling me the message doesn't matter but what kind of paper it was on is all that matters? Gee, that makes a whole lot of sense. I bet you write all your jokes on toilet paper?

But anyone with a shred of common sense would have been able to guess the context of the note or do you take everything at face value?

I did give a proper answer. You're just to stubborn to realize how stupid your original point was. A teacher can handle an issue like a bee. A bomb's purpose is to explode. Which one would you take more seriously?

Well lets put it like this. If I had my own little island country the size of a town and bee's are responsible for more deaths than terrorists wouldn't I be a bad leader for concentrating more of my resources on an event thats less likely to happen?

By the way you're not helping your arguement by resorting to insulting my original point. I'm not calling you stupid or giving you negative rep just because I disagree with your point of view so why do it to me?

If I remember right, the IRA had their reasons for what they did. I am not going to condole or explain their actions. Nor should you do the same for the enemies of my country. America may not be the shining example of do gooders. But neither was England back in the day.

Where did I try to condone or explain their actions? I said the west. You do realise that means the whole of the western hemisphere and not just the USA? Please don't try to make out I'm attacking the USA here because the UK and Europe are equally to blame and at the end of the day I think 99% of the citizens of all countries just want the fighting to end.

Because it's not a big deal. If he'd have passed me that note I'd have smirked and got on with my work, not run around in a blind panic screaming " HE'S DROPPED A BOMB CALL THE POLICE" like a sissy. I can't believe you condone such a waste of your tax dollars on this shit. Why is all of this palava necessary and seemingly condoned by most on here when the idea of socialised healthcare is so abhorrent to most Americans? I know where I'd rather have my tax revenue going.

How many instances in history has a bomber written "I passed a bomb" on a piece of toilet paper then carried out a bombing?

How should that matter in a bomb threat exactly? A threat is a threat, no matter what it is written on and how that threat is given. Would it honestly matter all that much if he plastered up a poster or wrote on the bathroom wall with a sharpie marker instead?

But anyone with a shred of common sense would have been able to guess the context of the note or do you take everything at face value?

Have you ever heard the term, "I'd rather be safe than sorry?" the teacher did her job in reporting what she saw and we were lucky that their wasn't a threat in the first place.

Well lets put it like this. If I had my own little island country the size of a town and bee's are responsible for more deaths than terrorists wouldn't I be a bad leader for concentrating more of my resources on an event thats less likely to happen?

I love how I quell your stupid bee theory and still go on with bees. A single bee does not compare to how dangerous a single bomb can be. And if we were dealing with a swarm of bee's in the school the staff can take of it without calling the police. I still can't fathom how you think Bee's are more dangerous than a bomb.

B
y the way you're not helping your arguement by resorting to insulting my original point. I'm not calling you stupid or giving you negative rep just because I disagree with your point of view so why do it to me?

I red rep'd you because I disagree with you. That's the original point of the whole thing. Not only that, your point of view is stupid.

Where did I try to condone or explain their actions? I said the west. You do realise that means the whole of the western hemisphere and not just the USA? Good to see we can agree to disagree, this thread would have done just fine without adding Nationalism to the mix. Oh wait, you're doing that right now by calling my country paranoid and scared because one stupid kid made a stupid note and is being punished for being said stupid.

My tax dollars go to waste when stupid pricks like the kid make stupid notes like that. I'm glad this stupid kid is getting the punishment he is in. It shows that authorities won't take something like a bomb threat lightly.

Why is all of this palava necessary and seemingly condoned by most on here when the idea of socialised healthcare is so abhorrent to most Americans? I know where I'd rather have my tax revenue going.

I'm not going to get into healthcare. You seem to have a knack for trying to hide how stupid your opinions are by just simply spewing more opinions.

How should that matter in a bomb threat exactly? A threat is a threat, no matter what it is written on and how that threat is given. Would it honestly matter all that much if he plastered up a poster or wrote on the bathroom wall with a sharpie marker instead?

How many times must I say this....it wasn't a bomb threat.

Have you ever heard the term, "I'd rather be safe than sorry?" the teacher did her job in reporting what she saw and we were lucky that their wasn't a threat in the first place.

So you finally admit there was no bomb threat. Thank Christ for that!

Because my "stupid" bee theory is 100% accurate they kill more people in the USA than terrorist bombs. Why is this not registering with you?

I red rep'd you because I disagree with you. That's the original point of the whole thing. Not only that, your point of view is stupid.

Keep insulting me, you're the one that looks like a prat not me.

Good to see we can agree to disagree, this thread would have done just fine without adding Nationalism to the mix. Oh wait, you're doing that right now by calling my country paranoid and scared because one stupid kid made a stupid note and is being punished for being said stupid.

LOL do you even know the meaning of nationalism? I think you meant Xenophobia, but even if you used the correct term you'd be bang out of order. Please show me where I made a Xenophobic comment? Saying a big chunk of US society has been manipulated into a paranoid state isn't Xenophobic. Hell you'll be calling me a racist next!! Learn the definition of a word before you use it.

My tax dollars go to waste when stupid pricks like the kid make stupid notes like that. I'm glad this stupid kid is getting the punishment he is in. It shows that authorities won't take something like a bomb threat lightly.

Fair enough it's your money after all if you're happy for it to be spent on crap like this then go for it. Even though you admitted earlier there was no bomb threat.

I'm not going to get into healthcare. You seem to have a knack for trying to hide how stupid your opinions are by just simply spewing more opinions.

Yeah the healthcare point was a bit of a low blow I admit but the fact you won't address half my points just proves to me you have no argument my good sir. I also love the fact that every opinion that differs from yours is "stupid" you have alot of growing up to do.

How many times must I say this....it wasn't a bomb threat.

In this case, it was not a bomb threat. But does that change the fact that authorities and the teacher did the right thing?

So you finally admit there was no bomb threat. Thank Christ for that!

I posted earlier that it was a unintentional. But if it makes you feel like you are winning something out of this, go nuts.

Because my "stupid" bee theory is 100% accurate they kill more people in the USA than terrorist bombs. Why is this not registering with you?

Once again you fail to see how stupid the Bee's Vs Bomb theory really is.

Keep insulting me, you're the one that looks like a prat not me.

I also don't look like the giant ass by posting about how paranoid American's are and how they should "toughen up" after making sure thousands of kids were alright.

I'll let your first post speak for your obvious skewed opinion about American culture Post-9/11.

Fair enough it's your money after all if you're happy for it to be spent on crap like this then go for it. Even though you admitted earlier there was no bomb threat.

You also seem to fail to completely miss the point that I give respect to everyone involved in ensuring every life is safe from a threat or not.

Yeah the healthcare point was a bit of a low blow I admit but the fact you won't address half my points just proves to me you have no argument my good sir. I also love the fact that every opinion that differs from yours is "stupid" you have alot of growing up to do.

I won't address half your points because half of them contain no real point to the main argument in the first place. your first post flat out slammed Americans because the local authorities responded according to what could have been, a dangerous situation. Then you continue on saying that why should Americans shouldn't be scared of bombs, but have our Police force kill of Bee's because someone might die of a allergic reaction. Here is a statistic, almost 2 million people in America have a fatal allergy to Bee's. But 100% of people across the globe have a deadly allergy to bombs, you do the math on what is more dangerous or not. Then you also continue saying that it obviously wasn't a bomb threat because the note was written on cheap, toilet paper.

Todd I wanted to address where you said Cops should've never been called. It was just the proper protocol - if I was a teacher regardless if I knew it was a joke or not...put yourself in the teacher's shoes. You want job security. If this had been ignored by teacher this could've came back to around somehow some way. The importance of the children's safety is #1 but if i was the teacher, job stability is important. Please let the Columbine Shooting be a testament to this.
