Shia Labeouf gives up on giant productions...and this happens...

The 1-2-3 Killam

Mid-Card Championship Winner
First of all, what's the rule on videos that display would could be considered "pornographic" content. It's an indie art piece that, bluntly put has boobs and a penis in it on several occasions. It's an age-restricted YouTube video. Obviously I know I can't post it here, but can I link to it? Somebody let me know soon so I can edit this post.

Anywho, Shia LaBeouf recently came out and said he was basically done with giant productions. He feels they kill the creative capacity of the film genre, and has taken to doing indie projects. Yes, the Disney-clown-turned-blockbuster-action-star goes from Michael Bay to Sigur Ros faster than Megan Fox went from hot-to-not.

Sigur Ros is an Icelandic folk/prog/post-rock band that happens to be one of the my all-time favorite groups. The album "Tak" and "( )" are some of the most peaceful, moving things you'll ever hear. You may remember the song "Saeglopur" from the modernized "Prince of Persia" video game commercials. Seriously listen to this song, it changed how I think about music:

As part of LaBeouf's transition into independent film, he did one of Sigur Ros' signature off-the-wall music videos for a song off their last, more ambient album. It's really strange, as are all their videos, but some semblance of story kind of comes together. It's clearly about love, passion, and a slightly erotic relationship/addiction the two characters are involved in. And yes, Shia's big ole' penis is on full display. May not sound like your kind of thing, but I'd still encourage anyone who enjoys music to check it out; Sigur Ros is different, but they'll open you up to some intense, passionate, soul-filled music.

If I can't put up a link, search around for "Fjogur piano" music video by Sigur Ros. It'll be an official band video on YouTube.

I know cock shots aren't allowed. I don't want to post the video, I was just trying to make it more convenient by posting a link to the video. But I also don't want to get banned over something stupid.

I am all about Sigur Ros, man. I'm still kicking myself for passing up an opportunity to see them a few weeks ago. I didnt' know I'd be out here (Oregon) by now, so I didn't purchase the tickets back in February when they went on sale. All that was left were lawn tickets, and I can see the show from my computer better...

They inspire about 80% of my own music and collaborations with other artists. I'm trying to get into bowing my electric, but so far it's been an abysmal failure. Les Paul's were not made to for horse hair, as it turns out...

"Untitled 3" off the parenthesis album is one of my favorite songs. Easily the best rise and fall I've heard in music.

My other main influences in music include God is an Astronaut for my post-rock jams, and Glen Hansard for my more acoustic, laid-back periods.

Glen Hansard? Nice.

Currently my favourite band is Bon Iver but that could change.

I like Bon Iver, but as soon as he became the icon for the hipster movement I was out. He's good, but not that good that I need to hear about him every minute of every day. I'll take Fleet Foxes or Mumford and Sons over him most days of the week.

Wouldn't have expected Killam to be a Rós fan.

Ditto. More surprising than Shia doing a Joaquin Phoenix.

Have you seen Heima? Love the bit where they play about on the stone marimba, even had a section of it as my ringtone for a while. As you do...

GIAA are frigging great. I lost an album of theirs a while ago and keep meaning to find it again.

The film Mysterious Skin uses Untitled 3 at the very end to great effect, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet sharing a moment after a bit of a bombshell. It was ace to hear the song being used though it took me a couple of seconds to be sure it was them. Excellent song.

Ah! Heima! Damn it Dowds, now I'm never gonna get any sleep... I think my copy of that is like 10Gb because it's so damn pretty. I've seen it probably about a dozen or so times. They're such a weird, yet strangely beautiful collaboration of art and music.

Also, this is actually the second time you've repped me for Sigur Ros, I do believe.

#RepforRos

I haven't watched it the whole way through in a while to be honest. Usually I'll look up certain songs then go on a Ros/Jonsi binge for an hour or so. Might need to get it on Blu-Ray, but the standard definition version is still gorgeous.

Any love for Explosions in the Sky by the way? If you like God is an Astronaut then I'm confident you'll love them too. This Will Destroy You are worth checking out too.

Fuck Shia, let's talk about ambient music :)

So Lawless was supposed to show me the creative possibilities of the film genre? Interesting.

I'm a much bigger fan of post rock than I am of ambiance. I can only take so much background noise after awhile... I do like Explosions, but their post rock gets really repetitive after awhile. Ambient #1 and #2 are some of my favorite study music, because they don't distract me from what I'm doing. This Will Destroy You is solid, although I couldn't pick them out of a lineup. Mogwai is another classic - very piano heavy - that kind of helped define the genre away from prog and ambiance; it really is a perfect combinations of the two though. Joy Wants Eternity is also quite good.

My best friend did some ambiance if you'd be interested in checking it out. [LINK] I think you can still download the album - it's called "Meteorologica" - for free, as well as his other folk projects if you so choose. It was inspired by the tornado super-outbreak last year. It's actually quite good. Some of the stuff he just sat down at the piano and...played. No plan, no set ideas in head; he just started jamming and then went back and tracked over it with other parts. His music range just blows my mind sometimes...

I'll get it downloaded tomorrow probably. Got the second season of Boardwalk Empire on the go just now so will give it a listen properly another time.

Take Care, Take Care, Take Care was a bit laborious at times but the video for Last Known Surroundings is still brilliant. The early stuff was a bit hit and miss too but All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone is my favourite album of theirs by a huge margin. Mogwai's a band I've never quite managed to get into despite my friend being a big fan. I think it's the size of their back catalogue that somewhat puts me off in a way as I don't quite know where to start with them.
Quite certain they've broken up but The Evpatoria Report had some fantastic pieces of music, especially Taijin Kyofusho; incredible build and almost orgasmic climax.
