How can we elect this guy President?
Woah, woah woah, there...slow down. Governor Perry has not even won the Republican nomination, its VERY early in the process. NOBODY will be the official nominee of the GOP until late August 2012, when they have their convention. Panicking about the thought of him being elected President is incredibly premature right now...take a deep breath, relax, and wait until you see who the candidates actually are before getting your panties all up in a bunch.
But in the meantime: What makes you think that he is any more or less hypocritical than any other politician?
Here is a quote by a rather famous politician in 2006, see if you can guess who it is.
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
Guessed it yet? Must be some anti-American pre-Tea Party member, right? They hate America so much that they want to see the economy totally fail, right? That is the accusation levied against them currently, for not supporting an increase in the debt limit. Well, that was the Senator from Illinois at the time, Barack Obama. The very one who has been the most critical of those who don't want it raised. He was most decidedly against raising the debt ceiling before he was for it. What caused him to change his mind? Well, in 2006 George Bush was President, not himself. You see, politicians, from both sides of the aisle, say whatever they think their constituents want to hear, in order to increase their own chances of getting elected/re-elected. This isn't especially a rant against Obama, just demonstrating that both sides are capable of hypocrisy at the drop of a hat.
This may be earth shattering news to some people, but Republicans don't care about you. Democrats don't care about you either. They both only care about doing whatever gives them the most power. If that means pandering to you for a little while, or changing their opinion depending on which way the wind is blowing, so be it. We are just the suckers who continually elect the same people time after time and amazingly expect different results. Once you realize that, maybe you will sleep a little better at night, comforted that no matter who gets elected, half of the population will hail them as a hero, and the other half will hail him as a villain, even if the only difference in their beliefs from yours is due to bad timing...ie whoever happens to be in office at the time.
Worrying about Rick Perry and something he might or might not do 2 years from right now? Pshaw. C'mon.
