PG era starting to fade ?

Just because the WWE doesn't allow wrestlers to bash each other in the skull with chairs and blade doesn't mean the product sucks or isn't edgy. As people have said the WWE has always been edgy.

The whole Nexus angle was during the "PG era" and it was incredibly popular and entertaining right? It's about creativity so blame the writers when the product is bland.

If you want more 'Attitude Era' than watch TNA otherwise just shut up. The WWE product isn't that bad and if you think it is than stop watching. Oh wait you can't. You continue to watch yet you continue to complain. Lord grow up.

Don't like it, don't watch simple as that.

A lot of people hate the PG Era because well, look who the face of the company, and the said era, is (John Cena). That's their main reason, if you turn him heel, eventually you will cheer him again down the line. So suck it up, enjoy the ride and well, the Attitude Era is not returning.

PG thing was exaggerated when Linda McMahon was candidate for the election..that was when they would stop a match if there was some accidental bleeding, be way too much by the books when it came to the wording of the shows. With the election lost, WWE has definitely been more flexible with the whole PG thing. Look at Stone Cold`s appearance now compared to the time Linda was candidate. The Rock did not seem to hold much either. Heck the overall impression has it is fading is the proof of that flexibility. But really, this is not a pressing matter, there is no sensible reason for WWE to end this... I doubt this is even a concern for them. If they were to realize WWE overall quality is poor today and blame it on the TV rating, they`d be wrong.
Making the show TV-14 does not mean better product. Whatever the TV rating is, it will always, always come down to the characters, wrestlers and writing. Some if they want to create better shows ,those are the problems they should address. PG for what it`s worth is not that much of a restriction today, specially compared to what it was during the election campaign.

Completely accurate point is that the PG thing was exaggerated during Linda McMahons campaign. She was heavily criticized for her involvement with the WWE during the attitude era, by her opponent. I believe it is a big part of why the WWE is PG today. However,,, a great point was made on an episode of CSR. During the attitude era you would go to Raw or Smackdown live. You would purchase a T-shirt for $25 and maybe food and drink for about $10. Now..... you bring your kids to and event because it's PG. You know, you are not going leave that event with only buying yourself a shirt for $25. You have to buy that Cena Nation T-shirt for your kid. That's another $15. BUT... You have to get that replica spinner belt too. That's a nice $200. Or maybe a Rey Mysterio mask... Another $50. For Vince McMahon it would not be a smart business move to move away from PG. Ask any kid under 12 years old who there favorite WWE superstar is.... 10 times out of 10 you will hear John Cena, and that is why he is in the main event every week. And that is why it will never change.....

PG thing was exaggerated when Linda McMahon was candidate for the election.

Taking that thought one step further, I would suggest that the whole PG era came into being at the same time Linda chose to run for election. With the passage of time, I thought the idea would fade, but it hasn't. I honestly believe the whole damn PG thing was built around her Senate race, as incredible as it sounds to alter the direction of a big corporation for the sole purpose of catering to the political interests of one person.

I just can't imagine any other reason why WWE turned to "kiddie" programming. Look at what the Attitude Era was made from: look at how the rough-edged approach enabled them to take down the WCW monolith. Why change what revolutionized a whole industry?

Now, it seems the PG mess is ending; albeit a bit at a time. If the company had abandoned PG right after Linda's election, it would have seemed too contrived, no? It would have been blatantly obvious what the cause and effect were. Now, it's 7 months since the election and WWE seems to be more comfortable with abandoning the PG approach.

Well, if this is true, then good riddance to it.

I agree the severity of the PG Era was due to the senate race. The WWE took the product to a tame extreme in 2010 (it felt more TV-G at times). However, there are other reasons for the PG era:

1) Replenishing the fan base
2) Chris Benoit
3) Other dead wrestlers
4) Congress' crackdown on steroids in major sports
5) Chris Nowinski's and others work on the long term effect of head injuries
5) Merchandising opportunities
6) Attrition
7) The internet making porn and violence more easily accessible

They apparently have worked out the kinks with what PG can be and have somewhat matured the humor, violence and language lately. We probably won't see the sex, blood, obscene gestures and whatever else Golddust was doing in the Attitude Era again for a long while.

Personally, I've enjoyed the product in 2011. Returning to the level of violence and sex from the Attitude Era does not make the product that much more appealing to me.

Well, WWE started catering more to kids around 2007. So let's say a kid was 6-8 then. They'd be 10-12 now, so it won't be long until WWE has an edgier product, maybe as early as this year, similar to how as people grew in the 80s to the 90s, the product got edgier. But they will never go back to the late 90s naked women and constant swearing simply because they make too much money off of action figures. I mean we're not going from Cena and Jericho being on episodes of Nickelodeon and Disney shows to Katie Vick type stuff.

I see them going back to that 2006 type of edginess, where it was possible to have a few cuss words and sexual themes but never any out there type stuff.

I am such a HUGE David Otunga MARK, I pray that the PG era ends and Vince gives Otunga a huge push for the strap. Call me crazy, but the dude is stacked, can cut a bomb promo, and is over huge. He just doesn't fit the "PG" era. He would have thrived in the attitude era

]-i have noticed that they are starting to do some more things that they did in the attitude era. language has definately gotten worse, more violence (like lil rage fits and guys getting thrown through things), though they still do lots of kid things.

-the pg era started cause linda was running for senate (or something like that, and yes linda is the first thing that pops up), wrestlers were getting injured to much (mankind being a huge example), VKM realized that matel and other sponsers would pay them $$$$$ to be more kid friendly, the whole wrestlers having diseases was a major problem obviously (but i think they may have smartened up on that a bit more), not to mention that all the guys from the attitude era are gone and wwe hasnt made to many stars who could replace those superstars that made the attitude era, the attitude era. for these reasons, are the reasons as to why the attitude era is but a memory and no longer a reality.

-of course, the violence and use of foul language in promos has made promos much better.
