Paul Heyman - Killed ECW!!!

Has a Dark Passenger on board...
I was reading an article written by Paul Heyman on his Heyman hustle site http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepa...and-how-Vince-McMahon-wanted-to-fire-him.html

In the Article Heyman talks about Dreamers title win and how ECW is not the product it used to be,this article got me thinking, and made me angry about the attitude Heyman posesses yes he was a great booker but financially ECW in its old state was an absolute disaster!.

As seen in the rise and fall of ECW Haman's former disgruntled employees told about how Heyman ran the company into the ground, the company had grown in such a rate that they where pulling in thousands in merchandise had a solid fan following and where pulling in sell out crowds to the former ECW arena, their PPV revenue was solid and helping the company expand so what went wrong?

Well for starters it was Heymans ego, Paul wanted to be Vince Mcmahon, he wanted the lavish lifestyle and the big dinners with TV executives but would this help ECW?, not in the slightest, Heyman booked one hell of a product, something very innovative and impressive but booking is not what defines business, booking makes a product must see but The style of product wasn't what financiers and shareholders would have wanted, advertisers cannot get behind a porn style product, the impressive matches and innovative booking where overshadowed by tit and fart jokes and constant swearing, it couldn't make it to main stream television, so when the time came to put on a proper tv product what did heyman do? well put on the same product but censored it enough for spike TV to air, but it was still not a product that could be air before watershed, so again ECW couldn't appeal to a mainstream audience, Heyman basically just didn't listen.

The fact is ECW was growing but the capital that Heyman needed to allow the company to grow was wasted just like John Cena wastes water, Heyman was pissing away company profit into what?

For starters a bad TV deal, ECW already had a tv deal expanding to local stations, this was Hardcore TV and was shown after 1:00AM in some stations, they where paying pennies to have the show on local TV and didn't really need the assist of network television because of the fact that ECW had a booming PPV business and Video and DVD distribution, why would they need a Network deal? to create more interest in a product that basically didn't do house shows?, sell PPVS?, well the spike TV deal did neither, instead Heyman wasted Millions on a deal that basically failed because spike disregarded ECW in turn for their softer competitor and why was this?, basically ECW was never going to have a long stay on the channel, but it didn't stop heyman paying for launches with execs that had no intention of giving his product a chance because they saw it nothing less as soft core porn with stunt men.

Heyman continued writing cheques even though he knew they bounced, ECW was a happy environment but Happy wont pay your bills, no matter how much someone likes your product they aint going to work for free, this led to more and more established talent leaving for greener pastures and basically ended their careers because heyman hid their falws and booked them in matches which required lack of skill.

with no TV deal and no new stars to replace the old ones Heymans brand was lost and ended up being sold to Vince Mcmahon, when his brand was in trouble Heyman had a chance to reward the biggest thing in ECW after Tazs departure, and that man is still the stable of ECW the eptinom of the extreme brand, Tommy Dreamer, what did Heyman do to reward Dreamer a Title Reign that lasted for seconds, Heyman continued pushing Dreamer to the side for talent that left him until he had no one left, Heyman calls the product a shell of its former self but I will say at least its making a profit, Profit that Heyman wasted attempting to be the next vince mcmahon, at least Vince knows what a business is.

Do you agree with my statement, do you feel that Heyman is a genius or a complete waste of space?, well please give an opinion

More of my opinion: Heyman could have easily braught advertising from adult orientated markets such as Porn, Bear, Vodka, Sex lines, this could have braught in another income into ECW and helped the brand become more attractive to Television stations, he could also have focused bringing ECW to more adult orientated channels allowing the brand to establish itself in a diverse market, If heyman didn't want the product to change at least he could have braught the product income from third party sources, this is the situation what puzzles me, Heyman couldnt even think about how to make ECW grow before throwing the company into the deep end, before basically driving himself into bankruptcy because he didnt know how to financially run the company.

Hmm never thought of it that way. Perhaps you may have some points there in your thread. Heyman could possibly be his own worst enemy in this situation. A shame too cause he has a lot of talent as well as his wrestlers. Who knows where it could have gone. Something tells me that ECW may been bought out eventually anyway. As far as Dreamer from what I hear he never wanted a title reign but I do agree if he is the guy that is sticking around no matter what you might as well reward him.

Not necesarily. Sure, it was Heymans financial problems that lead to his downfall, but he was a big part of ECW making a comeback. And he was the man who started it all. I would think that they'd give him a little creative control over what happened, but because he was dealing with Vince McMahon and his 1,000,000,000,000,000 dollar ego, that was never going to happen. I like ECW now for different reasons that I liked the old ECW. If there were some equilibrium between how McMahon viewed and Heyman viewed it, that may have been the best scenario.

ECW is alive and well. However Extreme Championship Wrestling is dead. Now it feels a tad more like 'Extra' Championship Wrestling. But who killed Extreme Championship Wrestling? McMahon when he shut the door on Heymans ideas for the new one.

Dreamer actually chewed Heyman out in the Rise and Fall of ECW, he stated that Heyman promised him a title run but in the end opted to give Justin Credible the run instead, which led to dreamer eventually jobbing himself out before going to the WWE.

Why allow a guy who banckrupted ECW total control so he could do it again?, thats the silliest thing i have ever heard,Heyman was the whole reason for December to Dismember not working also, he booked nearly all the talent in one match and filled the undercard with garbage, of course its not going to sell.

Mcmahon braught it to a national scale, created new stars and made the brand credible again, Heyman did none of this and made the brand look weak, at least Vince did what Heyman couldnt' take the brand to the mainstream instead of letting it dwindle and die.

Heyman had and has his faults but he is more of a creative genius than Vince IMO. Vince never started anything from nothing. If Heyman had the equivalent of Turner or Vinces wallet, Im convinced ECW wouldve went to number 1.
