New Year's Resolutions

Turn Bayley heel
It's that time of year where we add a day to the calendar and many people make promises to themselves that they will change some aspect of their life. So, a simple thread with a simple question.

What, if any, new year's resolutions did you make this year?

Fairly standard ones in truth;

Lose weight/eat better. In the run up to Christmas, whenever I went into town to get presents I'd 'reward' myself with a Greggs so gonna cut that down to a maximum of 2 a month and do a lot more home cooking.

Get a girlfriend.

As I said, standard.

Sounds like you have Dowds syndrome. Sorry, I thought of that one last night and couldn't wait for a genuinely appropriate time to use it.

People say New Year's resolutions are pointless and I'm pointlessly cynical enough to agree with them normally. That said, I realised that I made and kept a resolution at the end of 2010 - go see more films at the cinema; go to the cinema by myself. I've since seen approximately seventy-five films at the cinema, at least sixty of which were by myself.

As for this year, I thought about giving up alcohol for January - AKA Dryathalon AKA Dryanuary AKA Janudry - but then I realised that the Royal Rumble is in January. I thought about giving up junk food but then realised I only eat it when I'm with friends, therefore it's as important a part of socialising to me as drinking or smoking is to some people. In the end, I took the easy way out; my resolution is to feel guilty about everything I do.

Zing! I got told to leave a pub quiz for naming my team Dowds Syndrome because it was offensive. "But I'M Dowds!" was my reply. They didn't take kindly to that.

My justification for not coming up with any ridiculous resolutions is that I always give up something for Lent, so if I gave up too much before that then I'd likely offend Jesus and pals. Plus, a lot of folk tend to break their resolutions just before then so it's a bit of a second chance.

My only new year's resolution is extremely vague: be more intentional about everything I do. It's way too easy - particularly when you make most of your money online - to waste an entire day, week or even month. All of 2012 went by for me, and except for moving to Oregon, I don't actually remember it being a very eventful period of my life.

I tried to not make a resolution this year. I always end up disappointing myself come December. Figured I'd go one year without one.

I didn't really make any resolutions this year. Apparently a lot of people at my gym did though. The gym has been PACKED the past week. I see very few familiar faces. It's always like that right after the new year comes. Within a couple of weeks, it's back to normal.... haha

I said I was going to start using my treadmill daily and quit smoking.

My treadmill is literally 15 ft away from me right now. I could so go over there and use it right now. I really could.

I'm not going to. Maybe tomorrow.

Mine was pretty normal, get back in shape, I am still thin and fairly strong because I have an active job, but my endurance is god awful, I play football for half an hour now and I am almost out on my feet, my other one was to start playing football again, I was pretty good once. Bit cold at the moment though.

I made a resolution a few years ago to never make another New Year's Resolution. I'm happy to say I've successfully managed to keep it.

Be more productive.

Whether that be practicing my guitar, drawing or whatever, I want to do something that benefits me rather than be on the computer doing nothing in particular or playing games all day.

Like most people, mine is to lose some weight and get back in shape. I work construction, which is pretty physical work, but I eat like shit. Also I'm laid off for 3-4 months out of the year, so I don't really do much other than browse and net and play video games when my kids aren't dominating the TV. So I'm trying to eat better and probably going to go back to the gym when I can afford to resign my membership. Basic stuff.

I look at this, and I just have to laugh.

I made so many resolutions for 2013, but I haven't been focused enough to follow through. I am so undisciplined.

Mine were:

Read more (1-3 books a month)
Date more
Work on my business.
Save more
Work out/ exercise
Make new friends
Go back to school

I guess the good news, it's not too late to try and do something on my list. Now all I have to do is remember where I put it......
