My Take V: Mickie James

Little Jerry Lawler

Sigmund Freud On Ritalin And Roids
Wrestling in TNA and OVW before debuting in the WWE in 2005, Mickie James had the gimmick of Trish Stratus's biggest fan. She was portrayed as her crazy and obsessed stalker. This continued for months until she beat Trish for the Women's Championship at Wrestemania 22. Despite being a heel, she was largely cheered throughout the match. She lost the title in August by some underhanded tactics from Lita, which led to her face turn.

She faced Lita in her retirement match at Survivor Series and won her 2nd Women's Championship. After beating Victoria at New Year's Revolution in 2007, she turned her sights to Melina. Mickie James lost her title to Melina on February 19 and unsuccessfully regained it in the first WWE Women's Falls Count Anywhere match. At a house show in France, she won her 3rd title by beating Victoria and Melina in a triple threat match. However, a rematch was taken place immediately after the victory because she pinned Victoria and not Melina. Mickie dropped the title back to Melina giving her the shortest Women's Championship reign in WWE history. Melina defeated Mickie at Backlash and their feud was officialy over.

Enter Beth Phoenix who held the title for the last part of 2007 and most of 2008. She faced Mickie James with the championship on the line on April 14, 2008 in London in which James became the 4th woman to win four Women's Championships. At Summerslam she lost her title back to Phoenix in a Winners Take All tag team match.

While she has been in some of the best women's matches in history, her championship reigns are easily forgotten. She is the 3rd best face on the Raw roster behind Melina and a steadily improving Kelly Kelly. It seems like she has been lost in the shuffle and you never see her on TV anymore. My suggestion is that she should turn heel because that's when she got her most exposure. Also, there needs to be a dominant heel other than Beth Phoenix since they're more faces on Raw.

So will Mickie James be remembered as one of the greats alongside Trish Stratus and Lita or will she be underrated like Victoria, Ivory, and Molly Holly?
Does she have anything left in her career to accomplish in the WWE as she is only 29 or has her ship sailed?

I think she has a long career to go. There is time in her career to move her aside in order to push other talent. Just look at the current WWE Women's Division storyline... they're bringing in a brand new Diva to feud with Beth Phoenix. It's another attempt by the WWE to find their new women's star. Meanwhile, Kelly Kelly is polishing her in-ring skills week after week in order to finally be handed the ball so she could run with it for a little while. It's no secret that the audience responds to her very well.

My point is that I think Mickie James is phenomenal... but with only one match per week of television time to use on the women's division, the WWE can't keep focusing on the same Diva year after year. It's time to move the old Divas aside (temporarily) and give the new ones a chance to shine. Without this, there won't be a women's division for us to watch because they won't have any starts for the future.

Mickie James is getting up there in age, for a career that seems to have a shorter shelf life then bagels. She started out as a good face to heel gimmick, but for the most part has become less over with her face turn in the long run. I think the fans still like her, she gets great pops, but as you said, she has been lost in the crowd. This is why I had hoped that Melina would have turned heel, creating two good heel wrestlers in Beth and Melina, and two good faces in Kelly Kelly and Mickie James.

On a personal issue, I have never really liked her that much, after she put on that botchfest with Trish at Wrestlemania. Also, many fans have responded negatively to her... pornography that was less than tasteful.

Personally I'm a huge Mickie James fan. Then again I also think she is the hottest female on the entire WWE roster at the moment. Personally I think she needs to be moved to Smackdown to be the main heel there. Watch her old OVW and TNA stuff on YouTube. She made a great heel and is better on the mic then any of the divas currently on the roster but yet hasn't really been given the chance to shine all because she doesn't come across like a "monster" i.e. Beth Phoenix and also because WWE has no interest in her being the next playboy. I get the impression that Mark Madden was right to say that the WWE has given up on the women's division and views the divas as just sex toys for the boys.

I think Mickie James will do just fine in the long run. She is in noway a "Lita" or a "Trish" but she still is the most over diva in the WWE ever since Trish left. She regularly puts on good matches(for the divas anyways). I agree that he current run right now as a face has become boring but I think it's smart to set her aside for a while. She was the mainface pretty much all year last year so it's time for other divas(Melina/Kelly)to get the limelight.

I think Mickie has made a huge fan base, and it's mostly just the IWC who seem to doubt her. I bet if she did turn heel soon, the IWC will probably sing her praises again. I just think being a main figure on Raw as the top or one of the top divas eventually takes a toll. She has already accomplished so much(4 womens title which is the same amount for Lita)I think she could retire right now and be remembered as one of the best divas in the WWE(and this is coming from someone who doesn't even care for Mickie).

Mickie is beautiful, young, a great wrestler and super over with the fans. She IS the big thing of the WWE today, at least in the womans devision. As awesome as she is, I think that Beth Pheonix will someday be forgotten. Something will happen, she will be gone, and somebody else will show up. Mickie is going to be like Trish and Lita, the face of the divas, and a big spot in the history. She already pretty much is. Lately, she hasn't been used much, and I've definitely noticed it. They need her. She is going to be around for a long time, and I'm happy about it.

Except she will be gone in a few years and forgotten just like Ivory or Jackie, or the Cat, of many others who never made it at high enough of a level. She is a boring diva who has nothing on people like Trish Stratus or Lita or even Victoria. Kelly Kelly will soon cause people to try and remember who Mickie James even was. Beth Phoenix however has cemented her name into the history of Divas, and will be around for 4-5 more years as a champion.

Mickie James is a fantastic wrestler. A great personality and a valuable asset to the WWE. She rarely has a bad match, although doesn't always have good matches. Although, she is reliable enough to put out there and you can expect a decent match. She is quite underrated in my opinion, and deserves to be up there with Trish, Molly Holly and Chyna. Sure, she might not have accomplished as much as them yet, but give her time. Her energy isn't matched by anyone else, and she can easily become a bigger Diva than she is at the moment. The ship most definatly hasn't sailed yet, and she could do with some fresh faces to have new fueds, as she really is a top Diva.

Out of all the women wrestling in WWE, I find Mickie James to be the cutest (I was a big fan of her before the boob job and when she was a little rougher looking, like a country farm girl, in TNA). However, as much as it pains me to say this, her days as a featured women's wrestler in WWE are numbered. If she stays, she will take on a role very similar to Victoria's in a year or so.

Sure, Mickie James is very over with the fans. But, relatively speaking, women's wrestling is not a draw in WWE. If they got rid of their female wrestlers, there would not be much of a stir. Furthermore, while she isn't by any means old in an absolute sense, she is getting long in the tooth in comparison to other WWE female wrestlers. And, while I think Mickie James could have been considered a WWE women's wrestling icon had she been around when the likes of Chyna, Trish Stratus, Lita, and Molly Holly resurrected WWE women's wrestling from its death in the early 90s, I definitely do not think this is the case now. While Mickie James is a competent wrestler, she is nowhere near as good as the likes of Beth Phoenix, Melina, Gail Kim, and many female wrestlers in TNA.

So, while I hope things turn out for the better, I think Mickie James' time has come and gone.

I think she will get back to the top of the womens division again. Right now they are pushing her aside to build up the other diva's so there won't just be only two credible contenders for the womens title. That beind said I believe she will get back up top of the division again sometime soon. She always puts on great matches, her moveset is cool & she is hot as hell.
