I've ALWAYS have had the utmost respect for Bernard Hopkins as a boxer, and I've always WANTED to be a fan of his, and after 15 years of watching this guy, I am comfortable saying that I am now a Bernard Hopkins fan.

Tonight, against Jean Pascal, Bernard Hopkins finally became the fighter I've always wanted him to be. I always respected Hopkins ability as a technical and counter striker, but I could never invest myself in his fights because he always played it safe and never took any risks, which caused the majority of his fights to end up being snoozefest.

However, it was a totally different story against Jean Pascal. After a couple of rounds feeling Pascal out and getting hurt in the third round, Bernard turned the heat on and never let up. From that point on we saw literally EVERYTHING from Hopkins. We saw Hopkins be the first to throw a punch, we saw Hopkins counter Pascal, we saw Hopkins taunt his ass off... we saw everything from him, and it was sensational to witness.

Pascal brought some drama to the fight himself though, by landing a great right in the final round to daze Hopkins, but Pascal really lacks killer instinct. Pascal could have potentially put Hopkins away both in the 3rd and 12th Rounds had he mauled Hopkins after dazing him rather than laying back, letting Hopkins recover. If Pascal wants to live up to his potential and become the best Light Heavyweight in the World... he will need to get that killer instinct. He lacked it against Chad Dawson, he lacked it in the first fight against Hopkins, and he lacked it tonight.

Regardless of all that... nothing can be taking away from Hopkins. 46 fucking years old and now that motherfucker is putting on exciting fights, and winning them decisively, too. Remarkable.

It looks like Bernard's next fight will be against Chad Dawson, who also looked pretty good tonight, having his first fight under Emanuel Steward. However, Chad Dawson also lacks killer instinct. Chad should be the undisputed, best Light Heavyweight fighter in the World with his natural gifts and athleticism, but he's afraid to throw hard punches. If Steward can fix Chad's problem, though, then "Bad" Chad could very well end up being the person to put Hopkins out of commission. It's a fight I'm most certainly looking forward to.

I may not be a huge fan of what Hopkins says, but I certainly respect him as a fighter and I respect him for what he has done in his career. Last night was simply amazing. 46 years old and still winning championships is impressive as hell. He has had two classic fights with Pascal now, and I would love to see a third one, but first I would like to see him fight someone else. Dawson's name has come up, not that I know anything about him, but if he is the next opponent I'll be watching. In fact, I'll be watching any and all of Hopkins fights from this point on because his last two have been a lot of fun for me. Congrats BH, you deserve it.

Just going to re-iterate what I wrote on the other boxing thread. Hopkins was once again impressive and looked on a different level than Pascal. I can't imagine anyone in that division right now posing any sort of threat to the man. I wonder if it will ever cross his mind to move up and try to win a fight at Heavyweight, become a heavier Manny Pacquiao and fight in numerous divisions.

Pascal just seems to have horrible issues with conditioning. He has tired early in his most recent fights.

I hope Roy Jones retires now. It's not a matter of legacy anymore, the guy's going to get himself hurt.
