Jericho is obviously right about money being the top priority. Like a few others, I think he's right on some of his statements. WWE does need a fresh top babyface right now and Ryback MIGHT be that guy.
Again, however, we're brought right back to the same question's regarding Ryback: Is he someone that can be that big star in the long haul? Is he just something of a fad at the moment? Does he ultimately have what it takes to be a long term star? We can't really answer those questions because Ryback hasn't really been tested. As others have said many times, me included, Ryback has only just started to gain any significant ground over the course of the past 3 or 4 weeks. Is he truly getting over or is CM Punk being such a good heel that people will cheer for whomever can deliver an ass kicking to him?
Let's say Ryback does go over and becomes champion. They've still got The Rock waiting in the wings this January and the WWE finds themselves in something of another quandry. If WWE has The Rock become the one to end Ryback's undefeated streak, the internet wrestling forums will blow up with bitching on a level that's rarely seen. The most common complaint: that Rock will do something that no MODERN WWE star could do in stopping Ryback. You'll have people coming out of the woodwork saying that it just makes the current roster look weak in that the all powerful Rock had to come to derail the freight train that is Ryback. To some degree, they'll be right. The Rock is a guaranteed WWE Hall of Famer who doesn't need yet another feather in his cap. Would having Ryback go over Rock be a viable option? Maybe. By then, we'll have had more time to really see what Ryback's about and if he's ultimately able to do the job. Then that raises another question: what if he isn't really able to do the job?
Like I said in another post, if Ryback really is going to be "the next big thing" and not just some flash in the pan, then he'll still have the support of fans via strong WWE booking 6 months from now. By then surely we'll know whether or not Ryback has the stuff.
There are ways of having this match end without either man losing face. Lesnar interfering could be a way of doing it. My favorite one is simple and that's to have them put on such a physical HIAC match that they ultimately wind up taking each other out and are unable to continue. Some will bitch about it but so what? You can't please everyone and there'll be complaints about the ending of things no matter how it goes down. Right now, Punk is reliable and has proven himself where Ryback hasn't.
