Their Hell In A Cell History

Both men competed in Hell In A Cell only once. Edge lost to The Undertaker. Kurt Angle defeated The Undertaker, The Rock, Steve Austin, Triple H, and Rikishi. Clearly the match stipulation favors the medalist.

Who They Beat

Edge: John Cena, Batista, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Randy Orton, Big Show, Mick Foley, Undertaker (if you count cash-ins)

Angle: Every name above (minus Batista) but including The Rock, Steve Austin, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, and if we are counting TNA, Sting and Hulk Hogan.

By FAR Kurt Angle has defeated more household names than Edge ever had.

Time As WWE Champion

The Olympic superstar rose through the ranks at a breakneck speed, becoming the WWF Champion within a year. Edge never achieved such an echelon until eight years after he made his debut. Angle held his first WWE World title for four months. Edge's first run didn't last four weeks. In fact, none of his WWE title reigns lasted longer than 105 days. Angle's first reign was 126 days. Going by the WWE championship alone, Edge's reign accumulates to 139 days. Kurt was WWE champion at a combined total of 297. That's more than twice Edge's reign as the Gold Standard of wrestling. It's worth mentioning they were both WWE Champion four times, not including the secondary B+ World title.

You would think Angle would have a shorter run on top due to how everyone played hot potato with the WWE title in the late 90s early 00s, and Edge would have a juggernaut reign being closer to recent times, but that's not the case.

Angle was champion longer than Edge by a mile.

Location Of The Match

And if you want to just ignore all of that, then I'd like to point out that this match is taking place in Texas and it would be ridiculous to book a horny, sneaky Canadian heel going over the wholesome, intense American Gold Medalist.

Vote Angle.

This is tricky.

Based on last week's votes, both wrestlers have suffered the same amount of damage, around 50% of their offense damage. That means that if they both gave their opponent x2 punishment, their opponents gave them x1 back. Mick Foley vs Edge was the longer match, but it was Angle vs Inoki that was the gimmick match, an Ultimate Submission match. Taken these into account, I believe that in terms of stamina, both wrestlers are on the same level.

Now, both men have competed in HIAC matches. Edge lost against Taker, while Kurt Angle, defeated the five hottest superstars of the Attitude Era. Austin, Taker, Rock, HHH and Rikishi, all in their prime.

Angle has also made people like Hogan, Austin and Undertaker tap out.

Angle's win record is huge. Edge not so much. Plus Angle is a freaking machine, so he has more stamina in him than Edge.

Edge is known for being quite the hardcore wrestler himself, though. And this match, requires that.

In terms of success, I think both men are equal.

This is not an easy pick, but I'm going with Angle here. In my book, both guys seem to be evenly matched, but it's that impressive 6-Man Armageddon HIAC victory in 2000, that gives Angle the advantage here.

Vote Angle.

I know Edge had a regular match last round, and Angle had an Ultimate Submission match against a Japanese legend...but I'm still voting for Angle. If anyone has proven they can come into a match at less than 100% and win, it's Angle. And I really do believe he's just that much better in the ring.

Also, look at Spidey's post. Angle has had more success in the Cell than Edge.

Neither Kurt Angle or Edge are HIAC match specialists, although Edge definitely has more experience in the "violent" more hardcore-style matches from his TLC days. Plus, he has the advantage of his 3rd round match being a regular match, rather than one with a gimmick stipulation.

However, Edge isn't on Kurt Angle's level. Yes, he may have an incredible resume of championship success, but let's be honest...he was never a MEGA star. Edge is great, a legend definitely, but a rung below the likes of Kurt Angle on the totem pole of WWE icons.

I think this would be a great match, but the excellence of Angle plus the fact he's won inside the HIAC before unlike Edge, gives The American Hero the advantage here.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Let's put it this way. I love both guys as wrestlers. They in my opinion are both Hall of Famers (obviously Edge is in, but Angle should be).

What pushes me, is when they were stars. Angle was a star in large part during THE hottest point in history, the Attitude Era. Edge at that time was a tag team star. Angle beat the likes of Stone Cold, The Rock, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Triple H etc. He's beaten some of the best the business has had to offer where Edge was only a main eventer after just about all those guys left or weren't prime time guys anymore. Granted, that happens in wrestling, but Angle beat Austin, Rock, Taker, Rikishi (who had no business in this match) and Triple H in a Hell in a Cell.

Vote Angle. It's the only right answer.

Since the stip really isnt a determining factor, I have to go with career. That means Angle takes this fight. It took a while for Edge to reach the top & while he was a big part of the past decade, Angle had a much faster path & has basically every top wrestling related accolade besides a Rumble win or a HOF ring. Clearly the HOF induction will be soon enough, but besides that Angle has done everything Edge has & a few he will never get the chance to. The NCAA & Olympic gold top the cake with a nice red, white & blue frosting.

Sorry Edge.

Awesome, a match between two of the most overrated professional wrestlers in the modern era. I'll pick Edge, I guess, for no reason better than he at least could bring it during gimmick matches, which this is.

My vote is 100% based on the match type. If this were a ladder match, I'd go with Edge. Hell in a cell? Angle is far more brutal and outside interference for Edge would be a non factor. Vote goes to Angle.

That's what happens when we overrate both guys in earlier rounds. We get to pick one of them to be in the finals of the entire region.

As for who is trying to argue that Edge was never a major star well, neither was Angle. As I said last round, Angle was always the guy who lost to the guy. The only Mania he main evented was one he arguably wasn't supposed to, and he main-evented to put over somebody else.

I'm not sure who should win because neither really should have gotten this far, but I'm certainly not thinking it's an easy win for Angle.

Kurt Angle's wife left him for Jeff Jarrett. Lita left Matt Hardy for Edge. Edge now gets to have sex with Beth Phoenix while Kurt had to settle for stalking Booker T's wife. Kurt angle sucks and the fans confirmed it for years. Edge isn't much better. He's a 9 time world champion who's total time spent as world champion amounts to something like 2 months. He was not known for being a world champion. He was known for screwing over guys that we remembered for being world champions. Like Angle.

I'll take Edge here. He'll find a way to screw Angle over in typical Edge fashion. Either way both are going down to the bionic woman beater next round.

Angle's the better wrestler. Edge is the guy who's whole gimmick was finding underhanded ways to beat guys who were better wrestlers.

The Ultimate Opportunist as they called him would have the Ultimate Opportunity to be Ultimately Opportunistic in the Cell against Angle. There'd be a way to be found to screw him over, that would very likely be pretty cool to see. Edge would find that way and he'd beat him with the skinny guy spear.

Edge failed at that, a lot. Mainly when he couldn't be helped by other people. Case in point: Edge vs Undertaker at Summerslam...in a Hell in a Cell. Wanna know how that went for Edge? Undertaker kicked the shit out of him for almost the entire match, and then after it was over? He chokeslammed that overrated girl-friend thief straight to WWE's version of Hell.

And Angle was just as tricky as Edge. The brother-swap technique he'd use from time to time being a favorite of mine.

For me, I've always thought Edge was better. Angle is a great wrestler and he really did manage to develop a character well, but I can't really remember an Edge feud that I didn't love.

Edge is the reason why Kurt Angle is bald. I guess everyone just forgot about that when they voted. This match should be much closer than it actually is.

Not really. Angle had the better HIAC record, defeated more noteworthy wrestlers, had the superior run as champion, and nobody is booking a Canadian heel to win against the All American in the middle of conservative Texas. That'd be weird.

Nobody forgot that Edge buzzed Kurt. McMahon got shaved too, by Donald Trump. Shaving a head doesn't make you better than anybody.

But by this kayfabe logic I expect you will be voting Angle over Austin because he made the tough badass tap out. Oh and he kidnapped him and made him cry.

Seriously though, I will need all the help I can get arguing for Angle.

Angle easily for me.

Edge was a good pro wrestler but Kurt Angle is a great wrestler. Angle is way better than Edge in terms of in-ring skill. Being great that too after majority of career in TNA is a big accolade.

Angle Lock for the submission victory.
