A through Z Movies

So I've been in training for my new job all week, and as you could imagine, I've had to fight off boredom all week long. Today I entertained myself by writing out the alphabet and naming a movie for every letter of the alphabet with the idea being that at the end I would look over the list and see the overall quality of it. I wasn't allowed to think, I just had to write the first movie that came to mind, even if I had never seen it (and of the 26 movies I listed, I've only seen 15 of them).

I'll share my list before you make yours.

American Beauty
Blade
Catch Me if you Can
Enter the Void
French Connection
Green Mile
Hocus Pocus
I Robot
Jumangi
King's Speech
Lion King
Mission Impossible
No Country for Old Men
Orange County
Pan's Labyrinth
Quantum of Solace
Rocky
Schindler's List
Tron
Underworld
V for Vendetta
Waterworld
X-Men
Yellow Submarine
Zoolander

Lots of drama, action, and a few kids movies on here. Only two comedies, which is surprising because I generally like comedies. A couple of real shit movies here like Waterworld and I Robot. I was also pleased with myself for getting two foreign language movies on here, though I haven't seen Enter the Void. A trio of super hero movies on here as well with V for Vendetta, Blade, and X-Men.

So what's your list look like? Remember first movie that pops into your head, not necessarily your favorite or the best one you can think of.

American History X
Braveheart
Cool Hand Luke
Deer Hunter
Enter the Dragon
Full Metal Jacket
Grapes of Wrath
High Noon
Incredible Hulk
Jackie Brown
Karate Kid
Lion in Winter

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Pulp Fiction
Quick and the Dead
Ratatouille
Saving Private Ryan
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Unforgiven

Wolverine
X-Men
Yankee Doddle Dandy
Zathura

I've seen all but four of the movies on my list: High Noon, Night at the Museum, Vertigo and Yankee Doodle Dandy

Army Of Darkness
Body Bags

Dark Water (the remake with Jennifer Connelly)
Ex Machina
Fright Night Part II (the 80's sequel)

Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday
Krampus
Let The Right One In
Maniac (the remake with Elijah Wood)
Night Of The Creeps
Ouija
Pulp Fiction
Quarantine
Resident Evil
Scream
Terror Train
Unbroken
V/H/S 2
Wall Street
X-Men
Year One
Z For Zachariah

With a handful of frequent trips to theaters, a fair amount of recent stuff instantly pops into my head. Terror Train is one of my favorite slasher films with a good old school 80's feel to it, and Jaime Lee Curtis delivers another solid scream queen/final girl performance.

I'm trying to constantly remind myself about Night Of The Creeps, so I don't forget to watch it for the first time, and the same goes for Z For Zachariah, when I caught a glimpse of the DVD at Best Buy a few days ago. And Ouija is a dogshit horror film, but it pops up on Cinemax or HBO a lot (usually late at night), so I'll watch it to pass the time, if I don't feel like looking for anything else, or if I'm of sick watching everything on ESPN.

Oh man, this will be fun. I didn't look at any other list so mine wasn't influenced.

Adventures in Babysitting
Boogie Nights
Creed
Dazed and Confused
Eyes Wide Shut
Fight Club
Good Will Hunting
Hard Boiled
Inglourious Basterds
Juice
Karate Kid, The
Last American Virgin, The
Memories of Murder
National Lampoon's Vacation
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Point Break
Quick and the Dead, The
Raging Bull
Saving Private Ryan
Terminator, The
Up in the Air
Varsity Blues
Wanderers, The
X-Men
Yes Man
Zero Day

Alright, for some reason, I completely drew a blank for the letter N. I had to take at peep at my DVD collection (which is in alphabetical order) and just wrote the first one I saw.

And I came up blank for Q, too. Sure enough, I don't have one DVD title that starts with Q, haha. So I scrolled up and just stole Jack Hammer's answer since that's a movie I've seen unlike the other two Q films listed.

That was a lot of fun as expected though. Great topic, Glass.

American Psycho
Battle Royale
The Crow
Dredd
The Expendables
Fight Club
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Hellraiser (which I actually haven't seen)
I Robot
Jurassic Park
Killing Bono
Limitless
Men In Black
Nikita
Once Upon A Time In Mexico
Planet Terror
The Queen (another one I haven't seen)
Requiem For A Dream
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
The Terminator
Underworld
Van Helsing
Wayne's World
X-Men First Class
Young Guns (yet another one I haven't seen)
Zoolander

Some were kind of difficult. I drew a blank for K and L and a few others for some reason so I had to check my DVDs

Avatar
Big Hero 6
Coach Carter
Doubt
Elyssium
Full Metal Jacket
Gone Baby Gone
Halloween
Insidious
Juno
Kick Ass
Law Abiding Citizen
Mad Max Fury Road
Nightcrawler
Oculus
Pineapple Express
Quantum of Solace
REC
Step Brothers
The Hobbit
Unstoppable
V for Vendetta
Wolf of Wall Street, The
XXX
Yes Man
Zombieland

I really drew a blank on some of the letters and had no choice but to go and look at my expansive DVD collection. Z, Q, U and O were the hardest for me. For me, it is a pretty good representation of the films I watch and enjoy. A lot of comedy and horror titles in there with some classics too.

American Pie: Band Camp
Batman: The Dark Knight
Catwoman
Dazed and Confused
Epic
Filth
Ghostbusters
Happy Gilmore
Inception
Jumanji
Kill Bill
Life of Pi
Money Ball
(A) Nightmare on Elm Street
Oculus
Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Q-?
Remember the Titans
Sandlot
The Trigger Effect
Underworld
(The) Visit
Wayne's World
X-?
You, Me, and Dupree
Zoolander

- Could not for the life of me think of one for X or Q
- Is that a Pee Wee Herman movie I have on there? The fuck?
- Kind of cheated with D. Was going to go with Daredevil and than realized I was falling into a superhero pattern. Had to switch it up.
- I've seen most all of these and surprisingly hate more than a few. But there are a few classics such as Band Camp and my favorite, Happy Gilmore. Yeah, I'm proud of my list.

Another Day in Paradise
The Blob
CB4
Dead Alive
Eragon
Friday the 13th
Gremlins
Halloween
I, Robot
Judge Dredd
Kalifornia
Last King of Scotland
Memento
No Way Out
O
Prince of Darkness
The Queen
Red Dawn
Shiloh
Terror in the Aisles
United 93
Videodrome
Wolf
Xtro
Yentl
Zebraman

Wow some of those letters were harder than I thought and some of the films that popped to mind first were in several cases films I've never even seen, but the mind is a strange thing. For example I've never seen Eragon, No Way Out, O, The Queen, Shiloh, United 93, Wolf, Xtro, Yentl, or Zebraman, and yet they popped to mind first. Several of those have been on my to-watch list for awhile though so that might explain things. A bit troubled why Eragon and Yentl popped to mind though, not in the least interested in those. Or O.

Hmmm...not a bad selection really. Some of my favourite films (Independence Day, Training Day, Anchorman and Bad Boys made the list.

There are quite a few I haven't seen, and it's strange how films such as "Sleepless In Seattle", "Love Actually" and "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" were the first that jumped to mind, when I haven't seen them, have no plans to see them, and in the case of "Corelli's"- no absolutely no idea the plot of the film!
