Your favorite book that you would like to see on the big screen

Do you own a book (comic books included) that you are just dying to see made into a film? If so, tell us a little bit about the book and why you feel it would make a great movie. Also, tell us what director you think would be the best choice to create the book into a live action film. And also cast the lead characters; tell us who you feel would be the best actors and actresses to portray the roles you love.

So, I'll get this started, obviously. I am a HUGE Bret Easton Ellis fan (popular among the board members here as the guy who wrote "American Psycho") and my favorite book from him is "Glamorama". Roger Avery (co-writer of "Pulp Fiction" and director/writer of the film adaptation of another Bret Easton Ellis novel, "The Rules of Attraction") has the rights to this picture, but it's now shelved since he can't get any financial backers for it.

Anyway, "Glamorama" is a huge book, but I do feel if written correctly, all of it could fit in a two hour film. The first half of the book (which would only take about thirty minutes on screen to portray) is basically nothing but witty dialogue and showing what the celebrity life had become in the late nineties. The parties, the drugs, the fucking, ect. Then, the lead character, Victor Ward, is approached by an older man named Fred Palakon and he wants to hire Victor to find one of Victor's ex-girlfriend's from college, Jamie Fields, and bring her home, which then leads Victor into this unbelievable crazy adventure to Europe and ultimately gets him involved with a terrorist group of fashion models.

Now, there are some things from the book that are extremely confusing, but that's a big reason why I would like to see it put to film by Roger Avery. He did "The Rules of Attraction" better then anyone I personally believe could have, and even though the film is much different from the book, it still answers questions about the book that left you confused when you finished reading it. I think he would do the same with "Glamorama" if he ever gets a chance to make it, and that's why he would be my choice to write the adaptation and direct the picture.

As far as the cast is concerned, there's NO ONE I want to see cast as Victor at this time other then Kip Pardue. Victor had a role in "The Rules of Attraction" and Kip played him to perfection I thought. Also, I highly doubt you'll find ever anyone with as much passion as Kip has for the Victor character (I know this from listening to the 'commentary' on the "The Rules of Attraction" DVD). However, the problem with that casting Kip is that the big movie execs. don't see him as a big enough star to headline an expensive movie and that's ultimately why Roger hasn't been able to get financial backing for the film as of yet. From what I understand, everyone loves the script he has written, but won't put money into it simply because Roger refuses to cast anyone over Kip Pardue, and I admire that because I agree that no one right now could capture that character as well as Kip could.

As far as other characters go:

Bobby Hughes - He's the leader of the model terrorist group and the main bad guy in the book. Mark Wahlberg would be perfect for the role, if he still has the body he once had. I'm not sure if he does, but if that is the case, then no one I don't think could play this character more perfectly.

Alison Poole - Sort of a psycho woman who Victors cheats on his girlfriend, Chloe Burns, for (this character is actually based on the woman Senator John Edwards recently had an affair with). This is a case where if someone were who they use to be, I'd cast her for the role, but since Katie Holmes has lost all her looks and has become a completely different person then the one I loved back in the day, I cannot choose her for this role. Instead, I would go with Megan Fox. She’s not that good of an actress from what I've seen of her, but I just picture her doing this role, which isn’t really that big, and doing it well. Plus, watching her in the sex scenes would be awesome.

Chloe Burns - Victor's model girlfriend who is anorexic and addicted to drugs. Sarah Michelle Gellar would be my choice to play her. After seeing "The Air I Breathe" (which is a great fucking movie by the way, that I highly recommend), I know she is perfect of this role.

Jamie Fields - Victor's ex-girlfriend from college and the girl who Victor is hired to find and bring back home. She is also Bobby's current main squeeze and plays a huge role in the terrorist organization. Kate Beckinsale would be my choice to play this character.

Damien - Victor's boss in the first half of the book and a real big, intimidating asshole. I would actually kind of dig Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson for this role. Don’t know why, just would find it extremely intriguing.

Fred Palakon - The old man who hires Victor to find Jamie Fields and helps him along his journey. Bill Murray would be my pick for this role. I'm just a huge fan of his and know he would do well with the role.

Lauren Hynde - Another one of Victor's ex-girlfriends from college who plays an extremely important role in the first half of the book. Shannyn Sossamon would be my choice to play her since she was so great as the character in "The Rules of Attraction".

I guess that’s about it. As you can see, I am very passionate about this book and badly want to see it on the big screen some day. I know some of you have to feel the same way about a certain book or comic book. If so, then let me hear how you would personally put it together into a film.

Hard to say. Do I really want to see my favourite book get butchered into some shitty film? It looks like one of my favourites will, Chocke, out in a couple of months I do believe. And Watchmen will be ok, but nothing in comparison to thegraphic novel.

The Wasp Factory

Synopsis
Frank, no ordinary sixteen-year-old, lives with his father outsIde a remote Scottish village. Their life is, to say the least, unconventional. Frank's mother abandoned them years ago: his elder brother Eric is confined to a psychiatric hospital; and his father measures out his eccentricities on an imperial scale. Frank has turned to strange acts of violence to vent his frustrations. In the bizarre daily rituals there is some solace. But when news comes of Eric's escape from the hospital Frank has to prepare the ground for his brother's inevitable return - an event that explodes the mysteries of the past and changes Frank utterly. Iain Banks' celebrated first novel is a work of extraordinary originality, imagination and horrifying compulsion: horrifying, because it enters a mind whose realities are not our own, whose values of life and death are alien to our society; and compulsive, because the humour and compassion of that mind reach out to us all.

I just don't see how it would work. But it sure would be intresting. I'm not exactly sure how animal torture and transexual teen would work ina movie. I certainly don't think it would be a box office smash. But it could be one of the most intresting films of the year. So long as it's cheap and low profile.

Meg by Steve Alten

This has always been one of my favorite books, and I got news a few years ago that Steve Alten had gotten together with a movie company and were planning to release a major motion picture based on the book. That future is now as movie has been made and is in the final stages of production. According to sources, the movie has a release date of late 2009 early 2010. I can't hardly wait.
